How adaptable is Pathfinder?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I vaguely recall a thought early on about how the default location for the Pathfinder mods (Varisia) would be generic enough to allow for easy adaptation to other campaign settings or home brews.

Is that still the case? Will there be any way to indicate ahead of time what aspects of Varisia are important to the story so we'll know better than to change them or at least be able to plan on altering them when the time comes?

The easiest thing to do, I guess, is wait the six months for the series to finish, but I just wanted to raise the question again about the current attitude on adaptability.

I think it's still our intent to make things as easily adaptable as possible. If you stroll around these boards a bit you'll find people placing our GameMastery Modules and Pathfinder adventures into Eberron and Greyhawk (haven't seen an FR one yet, but I might have just missed it). From what I'm seeing, people aren't having any problems with the insertions yet.

The easiest things to change, of course, are the names. If you change the names of the deities and the countries you're pretty much set. You might have to jiggle the geography a little to make it all fit, though.

I'm sorry. Yes the continent of Varisia is easy to place in Greyhawk or Eberron or what have you, but I was thinking of it as less of a whole.

Can Sandpoint, for instance, be placed in Keoland? It's pretty far from any barbarians that could serve as Shoanti. Would the lack of a Shoanti suragate be a road block in the development of the series?

I don't want to be surprised come Pathfinder #4 and have to say "oh, wait. It turns out there's been this huge cliff here along the border with Geoff..." because the Storval Stairs suddenly become a major plot point.

Realistically I don't expect to even be able to start a new campaign before the series is finished in January, but I still wouldn't mind a heads up about Varisian elements that are critical to the story and should be carried over to a homebrew setting.

Does that make sense?

Ah, it does indeed. Unfortunately, I don't have the answers and the guys who do are in Indianapolis right now...

Taking care of? *pantomimes shooting at something*

Actually, I'm thinking about doing RotRL in FR, here are my ideas.

Pacemaker?!? Good Lord, you are way to young to need one of those! I have not stressed you out THAT MUCH, have I?

And I haven't been on the forums that long. ;)

Nah, don't fret fellas. It's almost all congenital or resulting from corrections of congenital defects. Sharoth and Azzy, you're among the group of regulars who make the boards more fun for me. ;)

I'm not going to GenCon either :(

I'll need an extra big Peace Maker to set things right at the airport (LOL)

Mike, I'm dis-appointed. Do you mean to tell me that you can't just make something up and hope it sticks. I mean come on . . . even if it's over-ruled later . . . so what.

And as for the pacemaker . . . man, sorry to hear that . . . but I think it helps explain that unholy love of gnomes you have . . . I mean someone had to of made the thing right . . . I'm just suprised you'd actually let someone put gnome-crafted items into yourself.

Done. I'll be there in a little over a month. Clear your schedule.

That is such a rip. Here I thought my steel-toed-boots were a pain. You need a big T-Shirt that says "Not a terrorist. Wave me through"

On the plus side, pacemakers rule. As a gadget guy, I'm fascinated by them. Ever get to play with the mega degaussing magnets that trip the reset? Those are awesome (well, probably not for you, but when you're getting shocked every 5 minutes by mistake....)!

As for the beer thing, I kind of had this idea. Next time there is a big conference, make a list of the pubs in the area (or in "your" area, if they are ditching you), and leave the number so we can phone in a bar tab / gift certificates. Yes, that's right, 1 free round for this guy...here's my cc #...but only if he doesn't drive home...right-o.

Original thread: Why "can't" there suddenly be a giant cliff in Geoff? Grab a fricking pencil and draw it in. If you need plausibility, have it be hit by a comet or have a deity fall on it.

lol, my secret is out. ;)

Pacemakers are cool. When I go in for adjustments it's fascinating that they can speed up and slow down my heart rate with a push of a button. ;D It's freaky but also super neat. :)

I love that idea! I'm sure Jason will as well! :D

>_> -_- <_<

We must be able to control even our unwitting operatives.

*poof*

Truthfully, I will be running Pathfinder in Eberron. All of my players were adamant about continuing to play in that setting.

So easy conversion will be nice. But hey, in the end I don't mind footing some work (as in I don't expect conversion notes from Paizo).
