I failed my saving throw vs. jaw-dropping artistic design (not to mention I'm a sucker for Luna Moths) and preordered this. I had a lot of respect for the old WoD Changeling but the execution was poor, IMO. I've done a lot of research on this one and it sounds like they've integrated it much better than the previous incarnation... and it's darker and spookier to boot!
I can't wait! This is going to be a good one.

Oh joy, WoD's least interesting "race" is back. i was hoping they'd skip it. But since i'm not playing NWoD with it's lame ass mechanics, i guess it's really no skin off my back.
You are entitled to your opinion.
I think that changelings are the most interesting group in the World of Darkness. They had the most potential in the old game, but there were a few flaws that prevented the game from reaching that potential. The new game looks like it corrected those flaws.
As for the mechanics, I think they work very well for what the game is designed for. What would you say is a good mechanic? D20 grappling rules, D20 Turn Undead? One of my favorite systems is GURPS, and a lot of people I've seen online hate that system. Everyone has there own favorite, but is it really worth being rude about a system you don't even play?

I'm curious as to what part of the NWoD mechanics you don't like? Personally, as an OWoD player for over 10 years, I think it's a godsend. Additionally, the new changelings are nothing like they were before. I'm actually quite excited to see the new stuff.

It has been years since I have read an RPG book that I have been unable to put down. Changeling: The Lost has broken that record. While I can't say it's better than Scion, I think it may be on the same level. Check this baby out asap- ESPECIALLY if you didn't care for Changelings before. They're damn scary now, at least their situation is.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it as well. I picked up the Scion book too and, while I thought it was really cool as a concept, the mechanics scared me away from it. Hopefully Changeling will still capture the 'coolness' factor without making things too complicated. Mage suffers from this problem too, IMO, but that comes with the territory of being such a versatile system.
I can't wait until my copy of Changeling shows up in the mail... hopefully either tomorrow or Wednesday!

I got to play the demo of this game at Dexcon and I gotta say it's awesome. I'm a big nWoD hater (espescially since it caused the cancellation of my favorite line, Dark Ages) but this is causing me to give it a chance.
They're reviving the Dark Ages line.... sort of. Sometime in 2008 they're supposed to release a Vampire: The Requiem book called "Requiem for Rome." It's set in Rome... circa 300 AD. So awesome! From what I understand, they're going to explore lots of different timeframes for the various major lines.
A Revolutionary-war Era Werewolf setting would be cool... and Mage during the Age of Reason? Awesomeness incarnate.

I dunno, Werewolf Wild West and Mage the Sorcerers Crusade (Renaissance) both did miserably.
Roman Vampire would be cool though, I always wanted to explore that time era in VtM espescially with Carthage and such.

I don't really think those time frames were terribly interesting for the creatures involved. Werewolves during the Wild West just seems a bit awkward to me and Mage during the Renaissance... well... that one's not so bad, I suppose.
Ancient Roman Vampire will definitely kick ass, though. Mage during the age of Charlemagne would be pretty wicked cool too, or maybe Ancient Greece.

Did miserably... sure. But Werewolf Wild West created one of my absolute favorite RPG characters, EVER. Laughing Manyskins.

The mechanics scared you away? Dude, this is (n)WOD, "don't like it? don't use it" is their mantra.

The Scion system did not look (to me) like the nWoD. It had a lot of themes in common with the old WoD and only a few nods to the new one. Granted, I haven't had the time to really go over it with a fine-toothed comb yet, but I read the combat section and the whole 'initiative wheel' and different actions taking a different number of 'ticks' on your initiative thing was quite daunting. Again, I haven't given up on it, but I'll need some time to really dig into it before I feel I'll be able to fully appreciate it. Right now... it's scary. :)
Oh, and P.S.: My copy of Changeling is sitting in a box on my doorstep as I type this. I'll check it out as soon as I get home!

And they're right! It's there, along with my "The Gamers - Director's Cut" DVD!

You really should give it a shot, Cos. I spent a lot of time hating on the nWoD because it changed everything I knew and loved about the setting. The genre is the same, though, and White Wolf has really ramped up their art quality and mechanics.
nWoD is to oWoD as Pathfinder is to Dragon/Dungeon.
Just think of it that way and splurge for the 4-book slipcase that I bought a few months back (from you guys). It's worth it! ;)

I CANNOT WAIT for Requiem for Rome myself.

Massive drooling here...
As for Changeling: The Lost, I read about two thirds of it, and it is VERY different from The Dreaming. It's also very good, if you can stand WW's wordy texts.
