Heh. Read it, didn't get it...

I wasn't being snarky in that in-game post by the way. I actually read your revised post and had a totally blonde moment, trying to find the difference in what you'd written, without noticing that it was in a different colour text.

By the time I'd driven myself mad trying to find the difference that wasn't there, I became convinced you'd posted the same thing to make a point - like, I said it, deal with it. Somewhere along the way I actually did notice the text colour, but by that stage I'd gone too far down the wrong path for the moment of realisation.

Moot point anyway - I'd say things have moved to far. Besides, I don't know about Beeler, but at my table there's a "once it's said, it's said" policy, unless you make it abundantly clear that it was an occ comment. It's more fun that way (well, for the DM anyway).

A little of both. Have bad vertigo at the moment from the dye contrast earlier today. Having trouble looking at the screen and I'm sitting on a rightward lean, rofl. Once it subsides I'll try to type some more.

Feeling a bit better as long as I don’t walk around, thankfully it doesn’t look like anything is going to explode tonight at work. PET scan came back positive for problems in my lung and stomach. If I’m lucky, it means scar tissue and an ulcer (or maybe I swallowed / snorted a post-it note) I didn’t know about beforehand. Unlucky, it means the cancer has been busy. Unfortunately, it also means my surgery is off until they find out.

Had a CAT scan this morning, after sleeping like crap on the floor from being radioactive all day, then going to work, but at least they didn’t make me drink the dye. They have this crazy power injector (more needles, shite!) that cycles it into you at warp speed, but the downside is its inert radioiodine, which really pissed off the tumors attached to my thyroid. Funny feeling really, you get mega hot in the neck, then taste and smell something strange, then it shoots to your crotch. The tech had to ask me if I was ok when I started laughing in the scanner doughnut (quick, he’s losing it!). Now my legs are just “heavy” and my bones are cracking a lot, and I woke up with a lot of dizziness. Par for the course, this week.

Quite possibly worse than the needles is the constant, “Don’t eat or drink after midnight” orders. I work at night people! I haven’t eaten in fricking days…Oiy (though I can eat tonight, so my wife made me a sandwich to take with. Soooo good). Sunday will be my only night off this week, guess what…yep, not allowed to eat or drink anything then either! I just know I’m going to go into this stupid EGD with a caffeine withdrawal headache. Bah.

I’ve decided to only have the lobe removed, barring the fact that he opens me up and the entire organ is a mass of wrong. My surgeon is correct in telling me we should do it all, but I’m not in that place in my life now, and there is a certain “rightness’ to leaving the earth with all of the parts I came in with. Will the cancer return? Might. Nevertheless, I’m not going to preemptively strike on a “this usually happens.” If it does, we’ll go all out then regardless of how I feel, or maybe if I’m lucky enough for my son to be a man by then I’ll simply let nature take its course.

My wife doesn’t agree with my decision, but she understands it, and respects my right to make choices regarding my own body, which, quite personally is just one more basis for marking her down as the best wife ever. I carry a DNR (which says if you don’t watch me go down; don’t work me) for the exact same reason; if I can’t come back as Mike, it isn’t worth coming back. The only good thing about this entire experience is its happening to me and not her, because I don’t know what the crap I would do then; I don’t think I could handle it.

I have an EGD (esophagastricduodenoscopy) on Monday, more needles and tubes. With any luck when I talk to the surgeon on Thursday, he’ll give me the go for Friday, but I don’t know if he can fit it in that quickly (assuming the new tests are good and I don’t have a massive lump of cancer in my stomach). Kind of amusing really, I was talking to a coworker and my supervisor at work this week, and she said something about keeping a positive outlook, to which I replied that wasn’t really my thing, and my coworker said something to the effect of “Mike’s just bulldozing through it” and right away it was, “Yep, see, now that’s me.” I want this thing out, yesterday (literally, ha)!

Man … well, I’ve dealt with some crap in my life, but it’s all seeming rather insignificant right now … if that’s any consolation, and I’m pretty sure it’s not.

There’s obviously no advice I can give that would have any real meaning or experience behind it. But I will say that, despite it not really being your thing, you do seem (to me) to be approaching this with a fairly positive outlook – at least I’ve certainly seen people handle less significant things a lot more negatively. I think that can only be a good thing. I’m not sure that I’m quite new-agey enough to totally believe in the power of positive thought and all that … but in my experience it certainly doesn’t hurt, and you hear some crazy stuff that suggests it can do a world of good.

Anyway man, on the chance that positive thoughts from other people can help you too, know that I’m thinking of you, and I’m going to keep it positive.

Thanks. :) It just looks whiny when I read it back to myself, because there are tons of people a lot less well off then I am now, but it is still a daily grind and a lot of, “Huh, more bad news. Body eating itself alive; check. Well that just sucks.”

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I'm sorry for pissing people off; It's just that I'm incredibly good at it. It's now OK for any of you to inflict in-game bodily harm on the Green Mage.

It's fine, dude. I mean, I've had lots of people turn on me, but I'd be at a loss if my own body turned on me.

In my book, a) you get a free pass for whinyness, and b) that doesn't qualify, so you haven't even started using the free pas yet.

As I've mentioned before, my wife has some serious health issues, and is actually in line for a transplant, but we're way back in the line. She's pretty healthy. She healthier than most everybody else we see in the transplant support group.

Which is also why I can sympathize with the "other people have it way worse than me" stoicism too. We feel it all the time. Even a little guilt over not being as sick as other people we see waiting for a new organ.

And while I respect your decisions for your body (particularly the DNS, the wife and I both have one, and know each other's wishes on that subject), for my part, I'd want you to do everything you could/take out whatever needs to come out, if it means keeping you around. And I've never met you in person. So there's that. But I get where you're coming from on that subject, too.

In the scheme of things, it came at a good time. I have a decent job with good insurance, I like the hospital I’m at, I live in a country with decent medical care, and I have a house, a wife, and a perfect son. If this had happened during one of my contract times or between positions when IT tanked, who would have bothered to look at me twice? Certainly couldn’t have afforded all these fancy tests. I consider myself blessed, even with the cancer. Definitely glad we switched general practitioners though (wonder if the old office would have ever noticed I was dying…”Now, why don’t he write?” – DwW)!

A friend of mine had a daughter in need of a heart transplant. She finally did get it, but the waiting and the wondering is excruciating, not to mention for something good to happen to you, something bad has to happen to someone else. They just can’t perfect the whole “grow your own organs” thing quick enough. I hope things will work out positively for her (and you) asap.

Male Humanoid Expert 2 / Magewright 1

Getting down to the wire now, with the surgery this Monday (supposed to find out later today what time it will be). Trying to get as much stuff done beforehand, because I don’t know how much I’ll feel like doing after. Everyone keeps asking if I bought travel insurance, lol. If I have to dog paddle across the Atlantic with sharks chasing my bleeding neck incision, I’m going to Ireland, people!

That would be today (or tomorrow depending on your timezone). Good luck with it mate.

Ireland? You planning to go there? Sounds like a nice country.

We'll be there for St. Patrick's (well, sort of. It's celebrated the same days, but officially this year it is moved back ever so slightly, but you get the idea).

Hey man, welcome back. Hows things, how was the trip - other than disturbing south park?

Male Humanoid Expert 2 / Magewright 1

Neck hurts a bit, but then I’ve been pushing myself since we came back (back to work, doing sit-ups again, cleaning up, etc…). Trip was great, we learned a lot. We’d both definitely go back, especially now that we know what to do differently, though the dollar needs to unflush itself first. I dropped a few pictures in the other thread; if you like, I can drop a few (different) pictures here.

Guys, it is with deep regret that I have to drop out of the game. Work, personal and health reasons. I'll miss the game quite a bit. You guys are great RP-ers, and our DM is one of the best I've played under.

I had a feeling you might be forced to leave; I’ve been following the progress of things here. Sucks, but it is what it is, life comes first. Was awesome having you along though!

I “think” I can write Anders an easy out without having anything horrible happen to you (no promises!) in case you’d like to return at a future date. For the rest of the group, do you want me to advertise for a caster? You could encounter one easily enough strapped to Kersh’s rack.

Thanks! They look a lot better in normal form, but are "huge" because I bought Marcy a forensics quality camera a while back (leave a good lookin' corpse). There is another couple from...California (maybe) that has some terrific shots of the parade on a blog called "One Year in Europe" that I follow off and on, they are living in Ireland now (lucky buggers). I was looking through their shots to see if we were in them, ha!

Male Humanoid Expert 2 / Magewright 1

Short delay today, as I really need sleep. Should be able to update at work, I had to make a few doctor’s appointments to get an inguinal hernia looked (wooo baby, more surgery soon) at.

I'd say we need a mostly full caster type one way or another - I don't know what Seann's planning for long term progression, but I could drop the Swashbuckler and go for some form of Unseen Seer build without changing background/personality much, if he's leaning more towards a "gish" route... Or just grab a replacement - up to the rest!

The Exchange

Male Dworc (half-dwarf/half-orc) Monk4/Barbarian2/Rogue2/Jack-of-all-Trades2/Master of None2/Quasi-diety2

I wouldn't mind adding a new person into the mix, if Mike can handle it. I would suggest someone lean toward sorcerer though, this Path in scroll lite and shopping lite further in which is detrimental for wizos unless Beeler doesn't mind even more work to customize some loot later... ask Heathy, he would get a real kick out of this game.

Sorry to see you go Sean. Good luck with everything.

That thought had occurred to me as well, and it’s accompanying benefits and detractions. Couldn’t hurt to at least offer though.

You - I believe you had mentioned mystic theurge and/or eldritch knight at some point?
