Seoni and tattoo magic.

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Alright it says in her "meet the iconic" writings that tattoo magic plays both aesthetics and function as part of her character and is part of her personality... my question is...

What is tattoo magic from? this is really familiar and I would like to know where i can find more on this. I know of the tattooed monk and I think some psionicists can use tattoos but she is a sorcerer. Does anyone know what this could possibly be from? Or will this be some kind of pathfinder ability thing?

I assume it's something new as just about everything that's produced by WotC but isn't core is not OGC and therefore not available to pathfinder.

My guess is that will be expounded upon in the Player's Guide or possibly in Pathfinder itself. I am sure this version of tattoo magic is a Paizo creation.

One of the feats in the Player's Guide to Rise of the Runelords is "Varisian Tattoo," a feat that builds off of the Spell Focus feat. Eventaully, we'll probably expand upon the Varisian tattoo magic tradition, but that's all there is for now.

Tattoo magic is probably familiar because it is also used in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, typically by the wizards of Thay. I hope the Varisian style is similar to it but full of new possibilities as well.

is that in the faerun player's guide or magic of fearun or what?

Tattoo Focus, a feat, is in the Dungeon Master's Guide, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, and Player's Guide to Faerun. Sadly, it is not in the SRD. *sigh*

But Scribe Tattoo, a psionic item creation feat, is! :D

Potentially silly question but is tattoo magic exclusivley for spellcasters? For instance could a ranger get a tattoo that basically confers the benefits of a Mage Armor so that armor is relatively unneessary?

Sovereign Court

The explanation I'm using right now: Varisian tattoos are a long string of mish mashed, overly stylized Thassilonian characters. Thassilonian is the dead tongue of scholars, intellectuals and archanists. It's also the language of magic. Thus, the tattoos make their bearers a sort of living pidgin scroll. Wizards see these tattoos a bastardization of scholarly pursuit, since they die with their owners (unlike books) and most don't make grammatical sense. But they seem to work well for sorcerers who view the language more like art than a field of study.

I make it only available to sorcerers. It's a blood + ink thing ;)

There's something about tattoo magic also in Relics&Rituals I and II (and some addenda in Burok Torn: City under Siege), supplements for the Scarred Lands setting and completely independent from the rules of the WotC products, but I don't know if they're OGL or else.

It's in the Player's Guide for Pathfinder. Feat, basically +1 caster level to a school of magic (prereq spell focus, small school of magic for it) and the ability to cast a 0 level spell constitution bonus times per day based on school of magic.

It's similar to the Red Wizard feat in Forgotten Realms... but better.
