Vishantos' prestidigitation removes most of the stink from Geddoe.
Once everyone lets me know where they are and what they are doing, we will continue.
The hut is a 15 foot circle, effectively 3x3 squares. A-C across the top, 1-3 down the side, the chair is in B1, the caulron in B2, the door in the wall between B3 and B4.

I have a map drawn, locations are as follows:
Calar: C2
Vishantos: A2
Nerek: A4 (outside)
Laurent: A5 (outside)
Geddoe: D5 (outside, and away from people)
Ever concious of the mummified form, Visantos and Calar paw through the mess of herbs, ores, and offal on the shelves searching for something that resembles the description of pickled rat's tail.
Suddenly, with inexplicable quickness Calar is attacked from an unexpected quarter as the cauldron in the center of the room leaps up and attempts to consume him!
To hit: 15+2=17 (vs flat footed)
Damage: 1+1=2
Improved Grab: 2+2=4
Initiatives Please.
Everyone outside also needs a listen check since they were focused on other matters, specifically watching for undead or destinking themselves.
Cauldron of Doom: Initiative 13
Vishantos
Vishantos yells "Cauldron Attack! Cauldron Attack!"
Trying to keep his distance from the thing, he casts a spell. Unfortunately, he fumbles the gestures while dancing away from the cauldron, and the spell fails.
Cast defensively, rolls a one (total 7), loses 'enlarge person.'

|
The cauldron fails to notice Vishantos' efforts at casting and presses its attack on Calar.
To hit 7
Failing to find purchase in his flesh the creature repositions as if seeking an advantage.
5' step to B3, now blocking the door
With the shouted warning, people outside need a DC5 listen check to act this round.
Calar
Calar
Calar grimaces, hefts his hammer and steps forward to swing. He is already wincing at how he imagines it will feel for his hammer to make contact with the sturdy iron cauldron. "Damnable witch. Vishantos find the rat tail." Calar swings his hammer. 1d20+4 = 24! rolling to confirm critical - 1d20+4 = 17. Damage is 1d8+2 = 3, if critical hit then X3 = 3d8+6 = (rolled 1, 7, 6) = 20 (hope that is not confusing!)

CLANG!!! Ths sound of hammer on iron echoes through the small hut, Though your blow only manages to mar some of the engraving on the cauldron.
The cauldron is a construct, and not subject to crritical hits
Even completely oblivious, no one, including Nerek, could miss the clang. Listen checks are no longer necessary.

Nerek
Damn it. lol

I think Nerek can attack from his current position at A4, if not, he will step over to A3.
Nerek turns upon hearing the clang and quickly takes a strong grip on his mace and swings at the cauldron.
d20 +1 = 9, I figure that's a miss
If you don't move, it will have cover from your attacks. Decide based on that.

Five foot step then

Nerek moves over to reach the creature cleanly through the door, but his attack misses as the oddly dexterous cauldron dodges out of the way.
Laurent steps forward into the space formally occupied by Nerek, and though it is mostly concealed behind the door frame, he swings. Unfortunately he hits the lintel of the door instead of the creature, shaking the whole of the hut.
[ooc]Geddoe, you are a 5 foot step from being in reach, but you too will have to deal with cover.[/ooc[
Geddoe
Keno... stop rolling for me. It's ridiculous when you manage to roll a NEGATIVE ONE for my initiative. And on that note...
Geddoe looked over his shoulder at the epic battle going on, then walked away, shaking his head. "A cauldron. A cauldron. This is going well past insanity."
Move ten feet away, in increduility. Plus, I wouldn't be able to help much, anyways, with the gagglef**k that's going on.
I'm joking about the don't roll for me remark.

eep! exactly how did I get six for the total. I rolled a two, and added 7 and got 6.... I would blame the keyboard, but the 6 is awfully far from the 9. Sorry about that.

Vishatos steps away from the cauldron (to A1) and fires his crossbow.
11+3=14, damage 5+1=6
Vishanto's bolt sinks deep into the iron hide of the cauldron beast, though there is no way to know how much damage the attack actually inflicted.
The cauldron presses its attack against Calar, but misses horribly.

Calar will hammer away again.1d20+4 = 8, Damage = 4 . . .not that I hit :(
"FIND THE RAT TAIL!"
Calar
Attack the pot with the longsword - d20+1+1(bless)=15, damage d8+1=7.
Between swings, Laurent remarks to Calar, "Always something, eh? Who makes a pot like this anyway?"
Calar actually manages a smile. "Seriously, eh? What say we jump the thing, pin it down, have V grab the rat tail and then get the hell away from this cursed place?"
Geddoe
Geddoe continues munching on the venison. He's not going to be much help, armed with only daggers; more than likely break on the... cauldron than the cauldron break on them.
"You know, if you'd just aid one another, and stop dicking around, you might be able to hit the damn pot hint hint."
Dragonmann
|
Sparks fly as Laurent scores a solid hit against the angry steel.
Making some assumptions, Calar is in B2, flanking the cauldron in B3, and Laurent is in B4 to avoid the door. Vish is in A1, Nerek is somewhere in row 5, and Geddoe is in row 6.
Finally if i can roll higher than a 4, someone might get hit eventually.

d20 +1 +1 = 17, d8 + 1 = 2
Nerek steps back into the fray, swinging his mace at the cauldron.
Unfortunately, Laurent moved into the doorway you vacated, and so you had to step to the side. Your attack has widened the doorway though.
Laurent is next, then Vish, then Sir Pot-Miss-a-Lot
Laurent Reno
Another attack with the longsword d20+1+1(bless)+2(flank)=17 d8+1 = 7. After attacking, I will take a 5ft step to C4 so Nerek can get in.
Seriously, I wish I could roll this well in my normal game. It's always a long series of 7s and 5s on my poor d20s. :)
"See what you can do with that mace o' yours!"

After Laurent and Vishantos sink more blows into the creature it leaps into the air as though to swallow Calar, then as though it had stepped out of time, it hangs in mid air as crackling magical energy drained out of the pot through the various rents and dings.
Finally it falls to the ground unmoving.
Search DC was 14, so you already made that. The Rat's tail is found.
In addition make:
Appraise DC14:
You find several rare stones and statuettes worth a total of 30gp.
Know: Arcane: DC14
You find roughly half the ingredients for a Familiar Binding ritual.
Vishantos
Vishantos rummages around in the cottage. "Wow, there's quite a lot of useful stuff here. Just give me a few minutes... I wonder if she was planning to... No i'm sure the skunk moved in after she died... something though, I'd say..." He shoves seeming random herbs, jars and bottles into his bag.
"I wonder if What's her name in town would be interested in any of this stuff. We could bring her back here when this is all over."
After he is done he goes back out to the edge of the clearing and finds the injured fox. "Still here? I may have to give you a name..." He gives the fox a piece of dired meat from his rations.
BTW, made the Knowledge, Aracana, failed the Appraise.
Geddoe
DM
Made a 23 Appraise check.
Geddoe stepped inside and helped find the Rat's Tail. He then glanced at some stones and statuettes, and quickly appraised their value. He then glanced over his shoulder, and picked up the stones and statuettes. He then surreptiously put the goods in one of his sacks.
Sleight of hand... d20 + 5 = 13. Crap. Well, at least the only ones who might notice are Calar and Vish...
Geddoe, after sorting his rations back into his backpack, stood up. "Yeah, let's get the hell out of here." He then carefully avoided the corpse in the middle of the room and walked out of the hut.
Vishantos
Vishantos looks around at all the weird fetishes hanging around the clearing. "If we camp here, I suggest we bury some of this stuff, along with the witch. Otherwise I doubt we'll get much sleep."
"We may want to push on a little further though. If we can find a good site a little closer to the monastary, then tomorrow we could go there, look for the mushrooms, and return to the same campsite. It shouldn't take us long to find the mushrooms if they're there."
