Alleybashers &. Last Laugh Guilds

Shackled City Adventure Path

My group has played through the first three chapter of the SC and are going to be starting Zenith Trajectory here in the next week. One thing I've noticed (and really wished I had changed before we started) was that the Alleybashers could be a friendly (or at least friendlier) organization for Rogues in the party to interact with.

I don't have my books with me so I'm wondering if there is any reason I shouldn't switch out any future encounters that involve the Alleybashers with Last Laugh rogues instead?

For that matter, why would all the various enemy groups in Cauldron not always use the Last Laugh instead of the Alleybashers?

Thoughts?

I'd like to let my party rogue join either LL or AB any suggestions? We're on chapter1 right now. Which chapter does LLs leader shoe up in?

You could easily make the switch which is not a bad idea at all. During Chapter 3 though you would have to change the Alleybashers that work with the Ebony Triad in the Laughing Monkey raid and within the Kopru ruins into Last Laugh members.

The only problem with this is that the Last Laugh have strong connections with the Cagewrights who had asked the Ebony Triad Chapter to create one of the Shackled Cages for them. When Flood Season occurs the cage has already been made and what's left of the Ebony Triad chapter has begun its own seperate mission to the Cagewrights.

The Last Laugh (and therefore their ultimate Cagewright masters) would need a reason to still be cooperating with the Ebony Triad.

Depends on what you mean by leader. In the Hard Cover Jil appears in the very first scene of the campaign. Jil is a powerful member of the Last Laugh but not its leader.

One of the Jesters (the Last Laugh leaders) makes an appearance during Chapter 7 at the party.

And...unfortunately... that is it.

You never fight another Jester and never attack the Last Laugh guildhouse. Jil is the only reoccuring Last Laugh member the party will encounter.

I found that disappointing so I changed it. Have a look at the 'Alternative Adimarchus and Cagewrights' thread in this forum or the complete version on theRPGenius site found in the SCAp archives.

Similiarly after chapter 3 the Alleybashers are wiped out by the LL so nothing else is said about these guys either.

My suggestion is to either change a few things yourself or use my work.

Yes, the Allybashers are written out of the game after Ch3 but this can be largely attributed to the Parties action in the Kapru Ruins.

If your Player is joining the Allybashers after Ch3 then he could be at the foundation of reforming the guild and at the forefront of the LL vs. AB war. That sounds like fun.

If before or during Ch3, then you have a choice, change the Allybashers in the Ruin to some other group ("Join the Allybashers or Die") or having the player fighting against is own Guild. The fighting against your own guild can be just as interesting but challenging. ("hey Bob, sorry I'm going to have to kill you")
