Tavey?

Savage Tide Adventure Path

havent read all the adventures yet... Is tavey a boy or a girl? LOL I have a player that is asking in character...

THANKS

~grins~ I think that is up to the DM on this. A lot of people have had Tavey be a girl diguised as a boy, a la pirate movies where the girl wants to keep her "honor" intact.

I think that the author intended Tavey to be a boy, but I think the other option may work out much better, depending upon your group.

Tavey was certainly intended to be a boy, but I really REALLY love that his art is ambiguous. Having her be in disguise so she can go sailing is pretty cool, but since this is D&D land and since there's already a pretty equal divide between gender roles (the Sea Wyvern's expected captain is a woman, after all!), disguising one's self as a boy doesn't make as much sense from that angle. Still... it's an interesting subplot!

as a random point, my (second) group thought that Tavey was the one to set off weird occurrences for a while and since they are an unusual group it was fun to watch the goblin rogue (I told him the only way he could be a goblin was if he bookmarked the goblin songs threads and sang one [or one of his own] in character each session) Following Tavey around, failing a balance check when standing on a barrel peeking in a window, thus falling in and knocking it over, then rolling it off the ship and cursing his cleanliness for the rest of SWW(not good to stand on the lip of an open barrel in a sea storm)... and the fact that I was using Tavey as a Baby Silver Dragon that was secretly protecting Lavinia (but didn't care about the rest of the crew) because the Lavinia's parents secretly raised 'Tavey'. It was a rather fun subplot, as before Lavinia even got on the boat, she mentioned Tavey looked like an old Childhood companion that she had lost track of when she was about Tavey's age.

I think Tavey is a boy who gets very upset when this subject comes up. If my players hint at this, I think that Tavey's going to overhear them and do something like run off into the jungle (requiring rescue) or try to prove his manhood (as alluded to in the hero-worship section of HTBM) and charge a T-Rex, requiring rescue.

NICE! I like this... Or even if Tavey is a girl in disguise, she could still do something "rash" to prove she can hold her own just as well as any man could...a la going to explore the moutian passage alone while the group is sleeping...or stepping in to defend the baby dinosaur from the terror birds ...

Thats why I love these boards... always great ideas just floating around! Awesome!

This is even better if you have Tavey trying to emulate a ranger or druid and you can make the baby dino Tavey's animal companion after the party has to save them both...

Tavey has been training under the parties druid during the sea voyage...But, the young diplodochus is an CR 8 creature.. LOL that makes for a helluva power animal companion... maybe I should reduce the animals CR.. becasue this too is an excellent idea!!!

Or maybe the mortally wounded Diplodochous was guarding eggs/babies for its mother or another herd member. and collapses in front of the nest

Poor Tavey! The rogue in our group made sure to let him "overhear" some comments about some revolting (and fictitious, as it turns out) practices common among the Darfellan people. Poor Tavey hid in terror one night when the darfellan character came below-decks, and refused to talk to the party ever since. Scarred for life, he abandoned the group immediately upon arriving at Farshore.

Awwww how evil... letting poor lil Tavey run off and become dino-chow... shame shame! What happened to the "good guys" keeping kids safe? LoL

it's settled... HE is now a SHE! SHE will soon be setting off and causing all kinds of trouble for the PC's, trying to prove that girls are just as tough as boys and that she has what it takes to be an adventurer!

LoL awesome.

Girl-Tavey doesn't have to prove anything, she can just haul out a copy of the PHB and point to the ability scores charts. "No strength penalty for females here; we're in 3.5 world. Quo erat demonstratum . " If she has the MM, she can also point out the expurgation of things like "noncombatant females" in the humanoid entries. Like atheists, sexists just can't exist in D&D.

LOL nice... but even in D&D you dont see a lot of male barmaids, prostitutes, or seamstresses... stats may be equal, but its still a "mans world" (or at least it is protrayed as one). Tavey just didnt want to end up as a barmaid or a hooker..so she posed as a boy...Problem solved... LoL :)

Or "She" had an abusive past and is trying to hide that she is a girl for fear of trouble.
