Um, wow Utak, just wow...
put me on your waiting list, i'll find time
Hey, Thanks. Coming from an excellent DM such as yourself really means alot.
Absolutely on the waiting list. Just give me some time to get the seven current players together, and who knows maybe an eighth will fit in perfectly. Any thoughts on what you would like to play. Right now I am having trouble juggling everything, but once I get one group together who knows. If you have something in mind, feel free to pitch it. I may try to foreshadow the arrival of somebody if I can.
Cheers

Hmm, I have a rogue, a barbarian, and a cleric in PBP games, and a wizard in my RL game...
where is the party lacking?

With 7 players many slots are filled. The only thing that is somewhat missing is a true arcane caster. Lightning bolts, fire balls, that kind of stuff. You can never have enough tanks either IMHO.

You guys (the 5 going to the mill) are paranoid. (or are you?) You are all going to make this game fun. Mwhahahaha
FYI, Next to the river channel is the city wall. You are still in Erian's Glen which is enclosed. I should have been more descriptive, but I was still getting over whatever I had, but I also didn't want to hold up the game any longer.

Don't feel bad I'm a newbie too and I don't know what they're talking about either.
Yea! That makes me feel so much better. Good now I won't feel so dumb when I ask stupid questions because maybe we both can learn from them, please I think my husband gets tired of me asking him questions over and over again.
| Kadrenis |
My husband does too. He's been playing on here for about 2 months or so. So I'm always asking how to do things when he's home. We've been playing D&D for two years and I'm still learning, but I love it. So if you have questions just ask we will figure it out together some how. :)

I too agree about never leaving things on the floor it is either going to be the 1 year old or the dog eating something and then the 4 year old thinks all the dice are cool and hides them from us. Thanks for the helpfulness. My hubby has been playing here since May and he has tried to teach me the game via table but it was to hard with the kids but the computer, this I so can do!

My 10 month old thinks everything is something she can eat or something to play with. She trys to eat anything from paper to us. Yes, it is hard to play with little ones around. My daughter isn't so bad. She is usually in her playpen or in bed when we're playing, but friends we play with have a 3 year old and she will drive you up the wall while playing.

Thats what our 4 year old does. "I want to play with you!!" and if she comes near then so does the baby and then you might as well just let them ramshackle the place. Our 1 year old is starting to throw tantrums right now and she gets so mad at you if she doesn't get what she wants. She needs to learn how to talk or to sign and until she does she just screams when she wants things. Earlier today I thought I was going to pull my hair out. Do you stay home. I work from home so that is nice since daycare here cost $1200/month for two kids so you can't make enough to cover that.Oh crap baby found me

Just a heads up, folks... I probably won't be able to post tomorrow, and I'm not sure about much of Friday-Sunday, either... my best friend is getting married on Saturday, and as best man, I've got a few things to attend to before and after that. I'll try to poke my head in whenever I can though... thanks for your understanding!
In the meantime, DM has my permission to NPC Shepherd Veirax...

Yay new avatar pics!!!
anyway, I have been following along, but I don't recall anything particular about halflings being mentioned, did I miss something, or am I freeforming?
Standard from the PH. I didn't want to put too much detail in a homebrew PbP. Its just easier this way. If you have any thoughts or suggestions feel free.

Grr, can't find link to most recent national map...
Oh, and if you don't mind I will subject you to a halfling as seen in my homebrew, where they are rather evolved field mice...
Unfortunately they all were turned into goblins by an evil necromancer long ago...
MUWAHAHAHA-ramble ramble-hahaha

Lots of gamers with kids...
I've got a 3.5 year old boy. He's loved our dice for years and also loves to play with the minis. His favorite figs are the thaskors and the frost giant mammoth riders, as he loves elephants. I'm easing him into roleplaying via collaborative storytelling at bedtime. I'll start a story, usually with his suggestions for characters and plot, like "me, Wee Little Man (one of his favorite characters, having surpassed Bitty Monkey), and Mona (the elephant from the zoo) go on an adventure to grandma's." When I get to a point where something might happen in the story, especially if it involve him, I ask him what might happen. He then runs with it and by the end he's telling me a story. Works out great.
Now, when my wife and I play for real, we always get a babysitter, just to make sure we don't interrupt all our friends' time with childcare issues.
For language acquisition, check out the Signing Times videos. Our library has them, and they've worked wonderfully. Of course, it helps that my wife is a freelance sign language interpreter and gets to be at home most of the time, but our son's language skills are far beyond most of his peers and we attribute a lot of that to him learning sign language very early on (at about 9 months).

I would suggest a wizard that is aiming for the prestige class of eldritch knight in the DMG. We are lacking in a frontline fighter and the two arcane spellcasters, have limited access to spells, especially evocation.
My two pence worth.
Utak's brand new spoiler

I have several books about signing and we did that with Arwen but Berlyn (the baby) has yet to pick it up. The good thing is that Arwen signs to her so I think she will catch on she is just being stubborn. I do stories with Arwen alot like what you do. She currently has an imaginary friend that we have to set the table for and make sure she gets into the van before I shut the door. I try to encourage her with her "friend". If nothing else it will make her a better gamer when she gets older.
| Dardin Undarfut |
Rough draft of Dardin's history:
Dardin was born into the extended family of the Undarfut clan, the runt of nearly a dozen brothers and sisters in the litter. The grasslands between the Skyward Mountains and the same-named river was an inhospitable place for ‘Aflings, due to the goblins and other horrors that stalked the night. If it hadn’t been for the encroaching big-folk and their walled Eriansglen the goblins probably would have taken him in the night. Instead, sheltered by the occasional patrols, and hiding in the very shadow of the town he managed to survive the few short years until he became ‘of age’.
Fortune continued to smile upon him, for though he never grew as big or as strong as his kin, his eyes were sharp, his mind sharper, and his genial personality was contagiously strong. All of which together brought him to the attention of the Brakmugrra, the warrior wizards who’s tradition went back hundreds of years. They wove together spell and blade to defend the ‘Afling people from all threats. The Brakmugrra masters took him into their hidden caravan, a veritable mobile fortress that was nigh undetectable from the outside, a haven for the ‘Aflings.
Dardin was much to frail to join the front line Brakmugrra Deho, what the tall folk call Duskblades, instead he was brought into the fold Brakmugrra Vendo, the war mages. The tall folk learned magic by will and way, understanding the skeins that they wove together into eldritch might, the Vendo were completely different. They studied a single form, derived from a single ancient text that had been passed down for generations. Every movement, every thought, every position was memorized by rote. All that remained was to develop the purpose and the will to tap into the magic and destroy the enemies of the ‘Aflings.
It took years for Dardin to master all of the techniques, time he also studied the languages of the big-folk, the stoic dwarves, the haughty elves, and the rampantly arrogant humans, he also studied the language of the goblinoid horrors that his whole life was now focused on hunting. He learned the secrets of the pestle and the vessel, alchemy as both an aid and another weapon against the night horrors. Finally, studying the book of the Brakmugrra lead him on a path to uncover more of the history of the realms. Sadly his own people kept little in the way of written records, so in time, he found himself entering Eriansglen and studying among the humans. Their history was filled with self-aggrandizement, as though they had discovered the world, and the other creatures had followed in their wake, but at least it was written down.
Finally, Dardin was able to pass the Trial of Culmination, proving that he had mastered all of the forms of the Brakmugrra, and with the odd ritual of the masters, was able to even channel the skein rending powered of the ninth circle without destroying himself. He was granted the title of Grun-Vendo, a military like rank of low importance (equivalent to Second Lieutenant or so) but still a great honor, and then he ceremonially was released from his bond with the teachers of the Brakmugrra and given fully onto the Vendo order. Like most of the Vendo, he was assigned to rove the soutlands, watching for goblins or the other night horrors, and where he could, stand against them, and where he could not rouse his Brakmugrra Brothers for aid.
His own interpretation of his edict, and his familiarity with Eriansglen, made the town a perfect base for him. Perhaps he might even find a few of the tall-folk worthy of being his companions it his great mission.

Perhaps, first look would have been better, let me know if i burnt any holes in your setting
Well, crud...
Weapon Focus requires +1 BAB
need to pick a new feat...
The background is great and adds to the setting. The area you described contains little detail on my end. You added really cool ideas. Thanks for that.
Also, 500 XP (I stole that idea from your campaign, hope you dont mind:) )
Also, some additional feats: (I like to make the heroes standout at the beginning of a campaign)
I was thinking of:
Dallah Thaun’s Luck (RotWild) - This gives you a +5 luck bonus on a single saving throw per day. (It is also written that each save after, for that day, is at -2, but scratch that)
I was also thinking of: (While not necessarily a feat to my knowledge)
Since Dardin received specific training against goblinoids, he could get the Ranger Favored Enemy ability against goblinoids.
If you would rather a different feat, you may choose one.
These are in addition to your regular 1st level feat.
Cheers

Question: what is the frequency of magic users among the goblins? I am wondering if something like improved counterspell or mageslayer would be appropriate training.
As for the favored enemy, i think it exists somewhere as racial hatred or something but meh, I was kind of hoping to be more general of fighting the "Night Horrors" of which only the goblins currently have names, rather than goblins specifically.
How would you feel about spell focus: evocation as my chosen first level
Weapon focus: Ranged spell
Heroic Spirit (+3 action points per level instead of +5 to 1 save per day)
and
Skill Focus: Concentration or if appropriate Improved Counterspell instead of the favored enemy
just some quick early am thoughts
As for the bonus XP thing I stole it from somebody else, so don't feel bad...
