A British Pollster by the sobriquet of YouGov did a poll of "most hated internet words", the kind that make you want to "wince, shudder, or bang your head on the keyboard." I thought the article was interesting and also that I'd post the top 5 words here just for fun. Some are already well-known, another pretty obvious, and two are just odd (to me anyway). Here they are:
- 1. Folksonomy
- 2. Blogosphere
- 3. Blog
- 4. Netiquette
- 5. Blook

"Folksonomy"??? While that is an annoying word, I have neither heard it before, nor do I know what it is supposed to signify. I guess I already hate it, though, no matter what it means...
And what is "l33t hax0r " supposed to mean? Yes, I'm lame, but please oblige me.
From the Urban Dictionary:
O|\/|6!!! \/\/`|'|=?!? l337 |-|4><0RZ!!!!111111oneoneoneeleven

I also hate "Cyber" - anything, like cyberspace.
Yes, I read Neuromancer, and it is still one of my favorites, but I hate that word.
In fact, while standing on the observation level of the Tokyo Tower at night, in Tokyo Japan two years ago, looking out at the city lights and landscape I understood exactly what Gibson's motivation was (Tokyo is about five times the size of New York city). But, I still hate that cyber-shit.

First time I hear the word folksonomy.
Instead of blogosphere I have heard people talk about Blogistan. Which is kind of amusing term.
l33t h4x0r (only n00bs write it with a) are annoying but the term is good.
Meme is not strictly an Internet word but its use has risen...I'm not that fond of the word but I use it anyway.
