I know a number of good Dungeon adventures have material that had to be cut to fit in that particular issue of the magazine. Some examples are Seeds of Sehan and Chains of Blackmaw. Shadow of Spinecastle looks like a great adventure, but is a little short for my tastes. Is there any extra material for it out there?

Yes, there is.
Also, originally written, the set up at Black Gauntlet Taproom was a bit different. James's version is superior, though, so I won't bother describing how it went.
Also, originally this was an adventure and a separate backdrop article called Spinecastle: City of the Fallen. It was a bit more detailed, included more information on NPCs and their activities, and it had a pretty cool Adventure Hooks section with enough stuff there to run many adventures within the city.
The hints at stuff happening in Spinekeep (east and west spires) was not cut (much), but Gary and I wrote that with the intention of selling the editors on allowing us to write a follow up that would take place inside Spinekeep (a search for the Key of Spinecastle).
James and his editing staff did a really great job of presenting the adventure and backdrop article as a single article. It originally was going to have a bit more cut, but they had the luxury of putting stuff back in because the STAP adventure turned out to be a little shorter than anticipated.
Gary and I have talked about posting the missing material up on Canonfire! Once we decide on what exactly we plan on doing about that, we'll post a link here.

Yes, do keep us posted! It would have been awesome for this to be a three adventure campaign arc. I love the idea of a city occupied by monsters after it has been overrun. It's way more interesting to me than the half-farspawn plant creatures and bizarre cults that compromise the most recent campaign arc (no offense to the author, but it's way too weird for my tastes).

BTW, not offended. At least you enjoyed one of my recent collaborations.| MugenReplica |
Sorry, Corey. Nothing yet.
Hi, I'm new to the site, but have been playing AD&D since I was 9 years old. Now that said I've never joined before because nothing and no adventure has ever peaked my interest as much as this one. I have a quick few questions.
1. Is this going to be a stand alone now or is it really going to be a 3 part adventure in Dungeon? If it is I'm definately getting a subscription again.
2. Will there be a few more pics of the city scape and destruction that was wrought on it when the humanoids took over.
3. Are you going to post up the missing material on here still? I'd definately be very interested!
Thank you very much for any help. The adventure looks great and is now being put into my campaign.

I've posted the missing chunk from the adventure itself here. I'll have the other parts omitted from the backdrop section later.

Unfortunately, Dungeon magazine will no longer be printed after issue #150. Check the announcement here on the home page for the details if you're unaware of this big news that's stirred up the gaming community over the past 2 months. Also, this was never advertised as being a 3-part adventure. Gary and I hoped to do a sequel to it (still do), but that may never happen with WotC's Digital Initiative. But, then again, it may. We just don't know much yet.

No.

See my post above. I'm very happy to hear that you like it. We wish we could have gotten more of it out to our fellow gamers. Hopefully what made it to print and what I post up on the Dungeon Wiki will provide what you need to make the best of it for your campaign.

I was looking through the adventure in Dungeon this morning and noticed that the areas keyed to area 1-5 on the Black Gauntlet Taproom map were omitted. I'll go back and look at the original manuscript and see if it's something worth putting up on the Wiki.
Here's a link to the Spinecastle: City of the Fallen backdrop article. This is the article in its entirety.

I have to say its rather sad that Dungeon has been cancelled just when you hit your stride Steve. The issue with Fiends Embrace was one of the first issues I purchased, and I intend to use that item in my STAP as suggested in an earlier thread. While I thought that adventure was cool I couldnt see myself running it any time soon so I have kinda canabalized it for my current Sterich campaign. Arakk became the family name of the PCs patron, and the Fingers of Iuz have now become wildcoast merc's in the employ of the merchant lord Pelmon Drudd from the background info of the Istivin arc.
While all the adventures for STAP have been great,Tides of Dread has been one of my favorites. I picture the final battle with the Crimson fleet to be a most amazing session. I was considering even going to the effort to model the whole village to scale for minis, but will see.
Spinecastle and the Seeds of Sehan arc is a couple more that Id love to run in the future but my group and I already game 2 campaigns a week (or other DM is running AoW) so time is at a premium.
Anyway just wanted to say keep up the great work! And that I hope to see you published in future Paizo (or hell,WotC, NG, or where ever! products like the Gamemastery line or Pathfinder.

Awesome! Thanks for putting it up. I've always wanted to run a game in which the players have to navigate unobtrusively through a city of evil, and this adventure is perfect for that. My original hope was for a run into Molag under the Horned Society, but Spinecastle will do nicely.

Thanks, SS_M. I don't plan on going away quite yet. As long as I don't piss off the Paizo staff, I think I might manage to squeeze out a few more modules either in Pathfinder or GameMastery. I also enjoy writing stuff for Goodman Games' DCC line of adventures, but haven't had much time lately to pitch any new ideas to them. Soon, though. Just as soon as I finish up with Sins of the Saviors this weekend.

James had mentioned that he was going to use the map for the ruined Pelorian temple from Spinecastle in another Dungeon adventure and I just found where he ported it to.
If you have Dungeon #149, look on pg. 73 and you'll find a map entitled Crimson's Chapel. This was the map that would have appeared in In the Shadows of Spinecastle as the ruined temple of Pelor. The rooms are exactly the same as the original map. Even the map key can be used. Note that the door between areas 1 and 2 is the one with the...
