Yay Hou!

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I wanted to echo the recent blog post and give praise for Andrew Hou's artwork. Aside from Wayne Reynolds (who deserves every bit of it), the artists don't always get the props they deserve. Hou's artwork has consistently stood out for me in the pages of Dragon and Dungeon, and I am thrilled to see his talent continue to grace the products of Paizo.

Ditto! I love his stuff in the Dagon 'nomicon entry, especially that new one-eyed lobsterish demon whose name escapes me at the moment.

I must say that Paizo has very good taste in their illustrators. I hope to see more Eva Widermann and Ben Wooten in the future too! Steve Prescott is excellent too, one of my absolute favorites.

I drop by the forum once in a while I'm slacking off hehe, just want to say thanks for actaully making a post for me regarding the blog ^__^ I really appreciate the kind words, been doing work for Paizo for years now and it's been probably the most fun work I've done, and it's nice to know that ppl aren't sick of seeing my stuff hehe. Anyways, thanks again, and I'll try to do my best in Pathfinder! ^__^

Hey, Andrew. I like your work a lot and I'm hoping to get a portfolio together to send out to Paizo and other clients soon. Do you have any tips from when you were first starting out? How much reference do you typically gather for each piece you produce? Just want to pick your brain a little while you're here.

I too am glad that Andrew Hou will be playing such a pivotal part in the look of Pathfinder, but I every time I see this thread title out of the corner of my eye in the thread bar, it looks like it says "Hey You!"

thank you for illustrating the Elemental Princes of Evil article - the Princes never looked so evil before. :)

Thanks for starting this thread! I, too, would like to congratulate Andrew Hou for his defining artistry in the pages of Paizo's publications. (I spit when I talk.)

In truth, I would also like to say that I really appreciate how the quality of your work gets better with each article. Your command of light and shadow in the shadow realm-based article in Dungeon 136 (I no longer have the issue, unfortunately) was spectacular, and your Core Beliefs artwork is crisp and vibrant.

Thanks again for making each issue more than just stat blocks and clever traps.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone :) It'll definately keep me on my toes to continue to work harder ^___^
James Keegan: Heya! I started freelancing for Paizo approx 3 years ago, it was one of my first real freelance gig, and it really came to me suprisingly, sometimes I don't even dare look back at the work I did back then, I sometimes have no idea why they even thought to give me a chance to do artwork for them. There's probably not much real tip I can give that you don't already know, I think it might come down to as simple as keep drawing and drawing, and use the internet best to ur advantage and promote your work. There're many talented artist out there that's still waiting to be discovered and I think participating in online art forum, etc is one of the best gift from the internet that allows an artist to grow and learn, and also free advertisement of their work. As for reference, hmm, google image and corbis would be my bestfriend, and I look for reference as needed, sometimes I get lazy or schedule's tight and I don't use as much reference as I should, but I can say a pic always looks better if u do ur research, little things we think we know how to draw, most of the time we're probably missing and forgetting a lot of the little details unless you pull out some reference. Anyways, this answer's probably a little bit generel not sure if it help much sorry T_T :D Good luck with everything!
