Hi all - there have been a few references to blowing up the maps we get into Battle Maps. What size do you have to make them for them to be correct?

Thanks in Advance

Peace all...

They need to be blown up so that each 5 foot scale square equals 1 inch. Watch out for the occasional 10 foot scale maps, though.

That I know.... But what do I tell them at Kinko's? What size would a normal 8.5x11 sized map be when each square is the correct size?

I'll refer you to post #5 (by Carlson) in this thread

I do a lot of this now and it's great. I keep pressboard around to act as fog of war cut into appropriate sized pieces.

Thanks

I use Photoshop do make a Jpeg into a specific size, then print them out on A3 paper at home.

I am lazy and have the money. I will probably go to Kinko's and tell them to make the page a certain size. Once I figure out exactly what side usually turns a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper into a battlemat with f1 inch squares. Maybe I will just go to Kinko's with one of the maps from the online supplements and ask them to do it for me with one inch squares and see how that looks for them.

Take the measurement of the square, then find out how many times you would have to multiply it to get it to 1 inch (take the numerator divided by the denominator to get your percent). If the square is 1/4", then it's 4 times the size of the page. 3/16ths = 5.3 times.

If it's a 10' scale, multiply by two.

Doesn't have to be 100%, just so long as you can fit the mini's in it.

This question is impossible to answer. Each map is unique, not only the size of the "dungeon" but literally the size of each square (or hex) in the drawing can vary from map to map.

You have to individually size each map into a battlemap scaling. I've had them vary from two pages to six to a patchwork of nine and up to 18 for a battle in a castle courtyard.

However, simply take it to Kinko's ... they should know how to get you what you want. All you should need to do is explain to them that the 5' (or maybe 10') scaled squares need to end up printing at 1" in the final output. They'll do the rest.

You should assign someone the family project of reproducing these maps to a 1" square as a sort of bonding experience to bring them together.

Now there is an idea... I am going to get right on that one.

Peace all...
