Monster characterizations in TiNH -- under Parrot Isle (minor spoilers)

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Okay, so the other night, I ran my party through the abandoned smuggler's hideout under Parrot Isle. They had ended the session before on a cliffhanger, after Vanthus trapped them down there.

So in the latest session, of course, they got into it with zombies pretty fast, in the first long hallway. Unfortunately they also attracted the attention of the five monstrous crabs in the water-filled room, and were soon in a combat with attackers on both sides.

Now, I frequently like to physically and vocally characterize NPCs and monsters as much as I can for my players, and had a great zombie shuffle for them. But when it came time to characterize the crabs, I couldn't help myself.

I had them make a "Woowoowoowoowoowoo." sound as they scuttled up to engage the party.

Anybody else that much of....

Spoiler:
a Zoidberg fanboy?

Just me then, huh?

We just got underneath Parrot Isle this evening! I had to utter quite a few "Yarrr... braaiiinnnsss..." to get the point across.

Liberty's Edge

"Hooray, I'm useful!"

"No, World! You put your hands up!"

I did exactly the same thing. They all thought it was funny until the dwarf was down and getting munched on.

All of my players were laughing until Krund showed up. They stopped pretty quick then, I can tell you. (It's amazing what a bit of imaginative description of spell effects can do - if I'd have said 'he has a shield of faith going' rather than 'he is cloaked in darkness that writhes and flickers over his form like a live thing, and drips down into his withered hands to form dark, cold flames' then they wouldn't have taken him anything like as seriously...)

That's exactly how I described the huecuva's shield of faith spell.

I gave Veldimar Krund an (almost) comical evil villain voice (which I'm told sounds like Starscream from Transformers), full of "Curses!" and "You'll never defeat me!" taunts. I usually save the doom-and-gloom stuff for the actual campaign baddies.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Sadly, I now know exactly what kind of voice you used for Krund.

I will so steal this idea when I run if for my players, but first I will have to finish the Age of Worms :)

"I choose my own claws! I want the tactile please of chopping him right here," (points to neck) "in the GONADS!"

"Shhh.... Nobody correct him!"
