Yes, I think someone needs to play a turn for brick. I think just about everyone is missing hp at this point.

hmm, maybe brick could play a turn for brick...

The party is currently being swarmed by an unknown number of bat creatures. They apparently tear of chunks of meat, then fly away to eat them. Lots of people are hurt (check previous page to see how much).

I am back at half strength and was just going to post for Brick, but I see that he is back. Shiney, we are getting attacked by man eating bat things. I was going to have Brick heal someone (probably Valessa), but he is all yours now.

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

Brick is afraid. Somehow, the way that the bat creatures steal the flesh of others appalls the warforged. Finally, he gets over the feeling of helpless fear and analyzes the situation. Valessa seems to be the most wounded, and Brick moves to her side.

He utters a small prayer, not knowing who or what he prays to. As he prays, golden sparks dance down his arms and into Valessa.

Casts cure light wounds. 1d8 + 2 = 8 HP

just a quick note, I think that was Brick's turn for round 1. When I NPC'd him, Brick was delaying until somebody got injured. And then well, I got injured :)

One of the many reasons I will never work for a.)rehab, b.)hospitals, or c.)law enforcement. They make shrinks get analyzed before they can practice, but doctors don't have to get shot or cut on. That seem right to you? [/firefly]

My condolences. By the way, on the same day you got shot, a friend of mine got cut up pretty badly by a boat propeller. Odd how these things seem to coincide.

Oh and Utak, I tried

"Get away from her." Beren growls at any bats close to Valessa. He then attacks the closest enemy.

If Beren can do a Full Attack, he will attack with both swords

Longsword Attack (Roll 19+4=23) Damage (Roll 5+2=7)
Critical Confirmation (Roll 14+4=18) Damage (Roll 3+2=5)

Shortsword Attack (Roll 8+4=12) Damage (Roll 4+1=5)

Beren will take a 5 foot step towards Valessa each round until he is next to her, and try to protect her.

Glad my right, dice throwing hand still works :)

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

The warforged, seeing his friends hurt at the hands of the beasts, begins to feel a strange sensation.

Anger.

Brick unconsciously grips his club tighter, as he utters possibly the srongest curse he knows.

"I don't like you."

At that moment, one of the batlike creatures decides to dive-bomb him. The cleric swings his club, much as a child would swing a stickball bat.

Attack roll: 13 + 3 = 16. Does it hit?

1d10 + 2 Str = 10

Brick's club impacts the bat thing with a sickening crunch, spattering blood over the warforged's white armor plating.

Jeezus... I think I have rolled better with Brick than with any other character I have ever played...

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Brick bats one of the creatures (pun intended) out of the air, while Beren slays one, and severly wounds a second.

Sari, your turn.

Female Human Fighter/3

Sari looks frantically about looking for some safe place to get a little shelter to increase her chances of aiming for the little beasts. Realizing that there is no such place she grabs both her Longsword and Drow Long Knife. She swings her left hand hard sending the longsword into the air towards one of the bat devils that is trying to attack her. She feels the impact as the sword comes into contact with the flying devil spraying her face with blood. "I hit one" She tries to blink her eyes to clear some of the blood away from them at the same time she swings with her right handing sending her Drow long knife cutting through the air she feels her knife touch the bat devil but senses that she did not damage it enough to kill it.

Fortitude save: 14+4=18 Long Sword: Attack: 20+3=23 Damage: 1+3=4 Critical Hit: 11+3=14 if needed damage for Critical: 8+4+6=18 Drow Knife Attack:20 Critical Hit: 10 Damage:1+1=2

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Sari slay another of the odd bat things, and her final swing wounds another. As quickly as they rose up the creatures scatter off into the encroaching darkness of night.

In seconds you are left amidst a profoundly unnatural silence in the jungle.

Combat over.

200xp

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“Ugh, what were those things?” asks Valessa, looking paler than normal from loss of blood. “Thanks Beren, thanks Brick,” she adds, looking down at her healed wound. However, despite the healing she still feels somewhat weak and faint.

Valessa loses a total of 3 points of Con, bringing her hp total temporarily down to 9.

It may be worthwhile for everyone to post their current status (hp, con damage, AP remaing)

The explorers, including Jyra and Ghorkin are all fairly well, only minor scratches and bruises.

Untouched as well (I think).

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd

Ruuz drops his morningstar and wraps his hand in a rag he pulls from his belt pouch. Slowly the blood soaks through the rag but does slow considerable, "Well that was a terrible start to this expedition, is everyone OK?" Ruuz looks mostly at Jyra as he asks this.

hp: 5 Con: 8 Action points: 4

Female Human Fighter/3

Hp: 20 not too bad!

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Current HP: 8, Current Action Points: 3, no constitution damage.

Beren watches the beasts fly off into the night. He then turns to his companions while catching a glimpse of the new arrivals as well, "Is everyone alright? Shall we still make our way down or should we take time to recover, organize, resupply, and plan?" Beren goes back into military mode while asking these questions, showing that behind his gruff, impersonal demeanor hides tactical training. He does not wait for an answer though. He turns back towards the hole, allowing others to discuss their thoughts on how they would like to proceed and see what decisions they come up with. Beren is more interested in the hole and returns to his investigation.

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd

Ruuz stands and walk over to Berren "Here take these." Ruuz hands him two potion bottles. "The red one will heal your major wounds and the green one will heal the minor ones, the way it is going I would save the red one."
Hands him a Cure Moderate wounds (red) and cure light Wounds (green)

Ruuz walks over to Valessa and hands her a green potion "You can take that now or later it is up to you."
hands her a cure light wounds

Ruuz looks at the rest of the group and notices that the rest of them made it out of the fight pretty good.

"Other than the three of us everyone else seems to be OK so I would say lets continue on."

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren looks up from the hole as Ruuz approaches and presents and explains some potions. "Thank you. I also have several of my own if you think somebody else would benefit. I am not badly wounded at the moment. I will gladly hold on to them for later use, but if you would rather save them for yourself or emergencies, then I can return them. Are you sure you do not need any magical healings?” Beren looks at Ruuz’s hand, then back up again. “It looks like those bats took a good bit from you.”

Beren is only down 3 hp. I rolled bad for hp when I leveled. I am sure Beren could use them in the future, but he currently has a stash. Wouldn’t want to be a potion hog :)

Ruuz wrote:

“I agree.” Beren nods.

"I think we need to get inside as quickly as we can, lest those creatures come back."

Ruuz:

Spoiler:
She is right, those creatures could come back any second, this is a remarkably good idea

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

assuming Jyra still has her torch out

"You have more of those?" Beren walks over, eyes Jyra, and points to her torch. "If so, take that one and drop it down the hole. Then I will see about climbing down there and running point."

Beren then turns back around to inspect the remaining rope to see if it is tied sturdy enough and confirm a good grip from all of the blood stains.

I beleive I took 1 point of damage.
I look in the direction of the fleeing bat-things and say "Huh. Anyone know what those things were?" I turn to the black abyss yawning below us and then I turn to the professor and ask "You did remeber to bring light, torches or sunrods or something like that didn't you?"

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd
Jyra wrote:

"Thats a good plan but the only inside I see it the hole the came boiling out of, but no matter lets get going. Jyra if you could drop you touch in the hole that would help our initial decent."

Ruuz walks over to the edge of the hole and looks down.
"Alright Beren you can lead the way down and I think Jyra's female mercenary Sari I think should accompany you, once down and if it looks clear we can start sending people down."

Ruuz looks back at the group "Anyone have any objections?"

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“Ah, that’s alright Ru – uh – Professor. Best save the potion for later. Brick healed up my wounds, I think I just need a couple good night’s rest to feel one hundred percent.”

Valessa is on full hp given her current Con score, and has two potions of CLW in her pack. She still has 6 action points (forgot to think about using one before I rolled that fort save before!)

“Yep, let’s head down as you suggest. I’ve got a few sunrods,” she says, pulling one from her pack. “But it makes it hard to fire a bow whilst holding one. Hmmm, maybe I could tuck it in here…. Oi Professor! And you too Professor! Stop staring like that!”

Female Human Fighter/3

Sari stands back and listens to all of the conversations that are going on around her. After listening to Ruuz and Beren she steps towards the both of them. " I don't know what those things were and whether or not they will return but I agree with all of you that we need to get going. I am fine with going down with Beren." Sari turns to Beren, "Well shall we?"

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

As Beren and Sari prepare to descend on the rope, Valessa readies her bow to fire should she see something attack Beren down the hole.

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren checks the hole again looking for any new clues after a light source is provided. When all looks good and he confirms that he can get a solid hold on the rope, he sheathes his swords and pulls out his dagger. He looks at Valessa, "Be careful." He then puts his dagger in his mouth and gives a wink to Valessa as he starts his descent.

If Applicable, Climb Check (Roll 6+4=10), Spot Check (Roll 10+7=17)

Yay, it is working again, I was getting error messages when i tried to post earlier.

Beren, when you inspected the rope initially, you discovered that being left out i n the jungle, and covered in blood was ungood for the rope, and it broke when you tested your weight against it.

That means you need another rope, and a rope use check before anyone can descend.

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

While Beren is testing the rope, it rips from too much wear and muck. Beren then looks at his companions. "So does anybody have rope?"

Assuming somebody has rope.

"So, how do you use this?"

Use Rope Check (Roll 2+2=4)

At nearly the edge of your vision you can see the tops of the fallen dirt and rubble that formed this hole. It is at least 50' straight down.

Use Rope Check (Roll 2+2=4)

"I've got a fifty foot length of rope - it's good, strong silk, should do the job. We may need to drop the last few feet though. Here, let me tie it."

Takes Ten on a trained rope use check, 10+4 = 14.

"Well at least someone knows how to use rope."

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Once Beren tests the rope, he starts his descent.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

When he reaches the bottome, Beren is hanging in the air about 5' off the 'ground'. Jyra has tossed down a torch, and looking around, you find the aside from the pile of rubble beneath you, the room is still cloaked in shadow.

There are several dark stains on the rubble near where you have climbed down, and not far away there is the remains of a corpse, stripped of flesh, with a spear protruding from its back.

I peer down the hole and shout "What do you see down there?" to Beren.

Female Human Fighter/3
Beren Kemble wrote:

Seeing Beren go down the rope Sari grabs a hold of the rope and begins her descent as well. It has been a while since she has climbed down a rope and feels the rope slip through her hand but manages to hang on and continue down after Beren. Climb: 9+5=14 Invisible castle is down so having to roll the old fashion way!

"I am guessing a lot of our guests will have the same problem" Ruuz says as he looks at the professor. "Professor Lorkin how are you at climbing?"

Ghorkin has continued to maticulously remove the residue from his repeated falls from his attire, and is roused back to the scene by "Ruuz's" question.

"Well, um, quite... We had intended only to survey the site today, returning with equipment to help with our decent..."
