Well, I remember back in elementary school when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up...all the common jobs were said by the first kids picked in the class, "Fireman, Policeman, Lawyer, Actor, Music Star!"
And here I am today thinking, what would you want to be if you could be any type of creature-excluding gods/demigods-in DnD? I'll start.
I would be the gnome that tinkered, toyed, and destroyed! I would build little machines to play pranks on all of the other people in the town, I would basically be a no cares in the world gnome who loves to tinker. I guess I would like to be this because it sounds like something fun and I always love a good joke. And gnomes are the bomb...or maybe I'm thinking of the bombs they build...
So, now it's your turn. Just tell what you would want to be, it's personality, and why? Remember, as long as it isn't it a god/demigod you can choose it.

Im a police officer so I got what I want :]
I dont really like playing elves that much, but I would like to be an elven weaponsmith. I would live for a very long time and be able to travel all over the world. My skill would be honed over hundreds of years, and people would travel far and wide to commision a fine sword from me. I get all the money, some of the glory, and none of the danger of adventuring.

Well... If you want what fits me best...
Dwarven Barbarian.
But for what I would choose to be if "fitting" wasn't required...
A Lich. Nearly indestructible, and no real aches or pains. If you want class as well... Then Cleric / Sorcerer / True Necromancer. There is nothing quite like using the fallen army of your enemy to slay your enemy.

I wanted to be...
a Lumberjack! Leaping from tree to tree as they flat down the rivers of British Columbia! Th larch, the fir, the mighty Scots pine...
Sorry, with a setup like that, how could I resist a bit of Monty Python?
Seriously, I'm now doing the job I wanted to do when I was young, that being software engineering. And, if transported to a D&D world, I would want to be either a Paladin or a Wizard.

No cross dressing, flower pressing ranger with a big axe? Dissapointing. :P
I think I'd go gnome Wizard(Illusionist)/Rogue. Way too much fun.

Half-ogre werebear barbarian. Come here ye old wyrm, I got a bone to pick with you.
I did the damage potential count up on this one. I rolled an 18 for my strength score before modifiers, then added in all the racial bonuses I found in my favorite magazine. Once I went berserk in were-critter form, I push past 30. Laying the smack down on something wasn't very hard, when I could actually roll high enough to hit... :-/

There was, at one point in time, a thread that was similar to this one. As I posted there (and it hasn't changed) I would like to be an Ogre Mage Sorcerer. And, after a challenging life of killing adventurers who invaded my home, I would become a lich. Tee Hee--makes me giggle just thinking about it.

High elf wizard, no question. To live for up to 750 years, learning and reading, and possessing mystical powers capable of reshaping reality itself... to be able to journey to hundreds of lands, and dwell for ages in each one, learning their lore and history and secrets; even just staying in the enchanted elven forests and looking upon the stars at night (while frying goblins with lightning bolts) Ah, that's the life for me!

That would be the life wouldn't it? When I was young, I wanted to be a wise teacher, the old lady with the long grey braid everyone looked up to and trusted. Transfer that to the D&D world, I would say my favorite character, a mage moon elf who has recently retired to head a college of magic and higher learning. Warping, ahem, I mean shaping young minds, while at the same time contemplating the mysteries of life, and actually having the life span to be able to do so.

DAMMIT! You beat me to it!
Anyway, I'd probably be a either a human Binder or a human Archivist. Boring, but still cool. And chaotic neutral, naturally.

what would you want to be if you could be any type of creature-excluding gods/demigods-in DnD?
Elf Sorcerer/Ranger - roaming the woodlands, unconcerned about what I may encounter, because (odds are) I'd know it was there loooooong before the reverse was true. Nasty ambushes set to obliterate them, able to whip out my dark vengeful streak, because - hey, you KNOW you never catch any flack at all about killing goblins or the like in the wilderness! Showing up in the village every now and then only to sell pelts and furs, collect bounties on gobbo ears, and buy replacement gear as needed - then heading right back out...for centuries.....

I'll let you be my apprentice. I'm cool like that.

Gee, thanks, Master Vatnisse! :P

I wanna be a smoking hot Drow priestess with a whip, and a bikini made of spiderwebs, and...
No, NO WAIT! I mean a Dwarf. A rugged Hill Dwarf with a BIG beard, and an axe, and pants made of chainmail. And I would quaff ale and slap other Dwarves on the back and make cups out of Goblin skulls.
Yeah that's it. Er... forget what I said about the... you know.

Well, personally I would like to be an elven wizard, but....
*everyone* who knows me tells me I would be a human bard with performance oratory as a focus. Or maybe an elven bard since I do have the snobbish factor to consider.
Great, I'm the best 5th character in a 4 character party. *sigh*
At least I'd be both entertaining and entertained. :)

I just had a disturbing moment of self discovery thinking of what I would be in some crazy uber cool mixed up D and D world...
As a young teen, I would be the one at the party that didn't want to go Ding-Dong-Ditch, most of the time I am the voice against American Dad and Family Guy. Never thought of crack, pot, even a smoke, or wine (with the exeption of church). In fact, my gaming group is within the church.
Anyway, the point is i'm Lawful Good if I like it or not I'm a paladin at heart.
Nah, I'll just be the LG traveling merchant who gets killed by bandit # 3

Why fight when you're already rich? I'll just dole out the adventure hooks to you guys, then go back to my huge, luxuriant estate.
Too bad those adventure hooks often involve your death/kidnapping/replacement with a doppleganger. Ask Livinia's uncle about life as an aristocrat. ;-)
Heathy, you can't be a lawyer. At our last meeting under the new moon I added you to our secret "list" along with Sharoth. The persecution should begin soon...very soon...

I've been on that list since the day I was born.
HA HA!!!
Double Jeopardy, B**TCH!!!
I'm FREE!!!

S!%&. It looks like you're right. Not only that, it turns out that Sharoth is actually on the list 47 separate times.
