I just saw the new cover and. I have never been so blown away by the cover of a magazine ever. Who ever did the art work way to go. Everyone check it out. New dungeon mag cover is online.

Marc Sasso did the cover. And yup; it is indeed Vanthus. His CR did indeed go up.

~WEG~ Totally, totally freaking COOL!!!!!

I don't know if my dm screen is big enough to hide it. But it is so freakin cool..... way to go.

Finally, the new cover. Vanthus with his latest template on. Can hardly wait to see the stat bloc inside. Now, about another week before the thing actually makes it to upstate NY! *drums fingers on desk and sighs*

Wicked. Funny thing is, I saw the thread title on "recent posts" before I looked at the cover, and I still thought "Holy crap, is that vanthus?"

Ohhhh I love this cover!

"Thank you Sassarine! We love you! Goodnight!"

WOW.
Now that is a great cover, and a really nasty villain. Can´t wait to get that issue...

I think an important piece of the art isn't Vanthus, but what's under his feet: a swath of sail cloth with a wyvern on it... is the party's companion since the third adventure (second if you go by the meeting) no more?

Shadow Lodge

My Dungeon #147 just came in today and I cannot believe how fricking awesome Vanthus looks! This one of the best Dungeon covers in years. If Vanthus' triumphantly terrifying visage was not enough, the background is piled with fallen heroes! Outstanding!

Marc Sasso, you R O C K!

His CR needs some work. I guess it's because the death knight template isn't the most powerful of templates, but a CR 20 creature with less than 100 hp is a big no-no in my book.

^^^ *sadness*

Well, it's a simple thing to give Vanthus bonus hp equal to Cha bonus x HD.

I agree completely, but alas... there's not a lot that can be done about it. The death knight template absolutely SHOULD grant the death knight bonus hit points from his Charisma score, but it doesn't. The ability to attract undead minions is also relatively weak.

To be honest, we probably should have rebuilt the death knight template entirely. To be even more honest, the Monster Manual II desperately needs a major revision up to 3.5 rules; there's a LOT of great monsters in there that are crippled by the fact that since 3rd edition was still relatively new and high-level monsters hadn't been that extensively playtested means you have a lot of high CR monsters that just aren't all that. It's unfortunate, and one of my major pet peeves (check out the linnorms, for example, or the mountain giant) but it's a problem beyond the scope of the magazine to fix.

actually it looks like the iconic paladin Abelard, the doomed one that's getting beat up in every picture you see of him. some of his punishment in the art of AOW is pretty nasty. in this issue, he looks like he's taken a right heavy beating... bwah ha ha!

Yikes! I just started playing Savage Tide, I did not want to see that. I will be thinking of the beautiful artwork while my Cleric awaits her doom.

Just ensure a warrior in your party has Improved Sunder and a spare adamantine greatsword, and the flaming weapon won't be so much of a problem...

Hmm..I'll see what I can do without cheating and using player knowledge. I've been avoiding the savage tide message boards, but my husband (the DM) has been putting various creepy pictures of things to come up on my desktop for me. I'll talk to our fighter, thanks.

Scarab Sages

The cover art is awesome, AND the pic of him with his newly-acquired minions in the adventure itself rocks too. YAAY mustachioed evilness!!
