Play-by-Post / Forum-based site looking for DMs!

Gamer Connection

UnlimitedRPGs.com, a play-by-post message board gaming site recently under new management, is looking to recruit DMs/GMs to join our community and run games in a variety of systems. We are celebrating our fourth year of operation and want to expand our site and offer more quality games than ever before.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

- Mature, literate, reliable, and committed DMs to run games in 3.5 Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Eberron, d20 Modern or Future, HERO System/Champions, Star Wars SAGA or anything else you desire (Homebrew, World of Darkness, True20, etc.)

WHAT WE OFFER:

- A free roleplaying site where high-quality, long running games are valued and supported. Many of our games have been running for over a year and are still going strong.

- A tight-knit, friendly community of mature, literate, and reliable players. Many of our players have been active at our site for years, and take their commitments to playing in a game very seriously. This is NOT a site where players join games on a whim, only to drop them a short while later.

- An emphasis on serious gaming and “role” playing over “roll” playing. We encourage thoughtful character development and rich character interaction, not one-line posts, netspeak, or trolling.

- A DM incentive program to give away modules, accessories, and rulebooks to DMs who agree to run games on our site. In order to get our DMs started, we’re willing to buy them gaming materials.

- Monthly giveaways, contests, and other rewards for our entire active DM and player base to enjoy. We’re always coming up with new community-building ideas and fun things for everyone to participate in.

- Easygoing and knowledgeable “no drama” site administrators and staff. We believe that we’re all just here to have fun and enjoy play-by-post gaming, not to start petty arguments or let personality conflicts ruin anyone’s fun. We are highly active and responsive, answering questions and fielding requests very quickly.

- A reliable and stable website message board with very few technical glitches and little downtime. We chose our web hosting company for its reliability and excellent technical support, and built on our site on the easy-to-use phpBB forum software.

COME CHECK US OUT!

Our website is located at: http://www.unlimitedrpgs.com. Feel free to register a username and post in our Out-of-game discussion area to ask questions or introduce yourself, or send the site administrators, DM Sirine or DM Guildmaster, a private message right away. You can also send email to sirine@unlimiterpgs.com or wiredplanet@gmail.com to contact us as well.

How often would you want DMs to run games? Would you allow the DMs to dictate the frequency of posts from the players? I'm going to look at your site and if I like it I would probably be willing to DM there. Is it a pay site or a free site? I run D&D v3.5 campaigns, mostly set in my homebrew world and I am also starting to play the Star Wars RPG. If you want to check out my DM style I am currently running the Grimmbold Manor PbP cmapaign, which can be found in the Play-by-Post section of this site's message boards.

Thanks for your interest!

To answer your questions, yes, UnlimitedRPGs.com is a 100% free site, and DMs have full control over the speed of their games. All we ask is that you let your players know this ahead of time so the players can figure out if they will be able to manage your posting frequency. Once a day, several times a day, several times a week is all fine with us.

Your game looks great - it seems to be moving along very smoothly, nice balance of combat and RP.

Anyway, please feel free to check us out and let me know if you have any questions!

I will probably join you folks and get a game or two going within the next two weeks. Just out of curiosity, what are these DM incentives that you speak of?

Sounds great! We'd love to have you on board.

As for the incentives, we've been offering to buy modules for DMs if they will run the game on our site. We'd like to expand that to thematically appropriate sourcebooks, too. For example, we could buy the upcoming "Drow of the Underdark" book for the DM who agrees to run an all-drow game on the site.

Funny seeing your interest here too Arctaris, since we both just started in a game.

On UnlimitedRPGs, I'm submitting a character for a game that lost a few players. I don't know how much free time I'll have soon, but I'll look into either running a game there or perhaps joining yours, should you be inclined.

Well, I am a bit D&D saturated at the moment, but if there is interest I could run some Heroes Game system games; used to run a lot of Champions and Dark Champions if there is interest, though I dont know what the current edition is I cannot image it has changed much; is there a real push to play the current ed in most games? I have a pretty cool Space Master scenario all worked out using the ICE Role Master sci fi game Space Master set in near future where humans have not yet met any alien species and are trying to master FTL and leave the solar system. I have run things in many game systems and like something about most of them, but running a super hero game would be probably the most fun, but am not sure how to do in online as movement and mechanics would be problematic unless players are more interested in storyline instead of making sure that knockback from their hit lands the villians in a trashcan or hits a building or such.

The whole project sounds intriguing.

I'd be very interested if a super-hero game got up and running. I was considering starting one at UnlimitedRPGs, but I think I'd much rather be a player this time around.

I've joined and I am a little confused by the procedure of creating a game. I have a concept at the moment for a camapign involving the Underdark but I didn't know who to contact with this. Who do I ask to authorize me as a DM? Who do I send the campaign idea to? How detailed does this information need to be.

Hey, Valegrim! Thanks for your interest. Please feel free to create an account on unlimitedrpgs.com and put up a post in the "Out of Game" discussion area located here:

http://unlimitedrpgs.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=7

to gauge interest in your game concept. I don't know which version of the game that people are using, as we currently don't have a Hero Game system on the board, but perhaps you can get feedback from the interested parties.

Thanks again! Let me know if you have any questions!

Great! Please feel free to post in our "Out of Game" area with your idea to gauge interest. You can provide as many details as you like, but the basics, like level, general theme of the game, character concepts you would allow, expected posting frequency, etc., would be great to include. You can put down the nitty-gritty of character creation later. Usually, players just want to get an idea for your concept and what the game will be like.

After that, please contact myself or DM Guildmaster to get your DM account and forum set up and we'll get it done right away.

Thanks!

I just signed up and sent a pm asking about joining a game. I've been meaning to check out PBEM for a while now and just haven't gotten around to it - it might be a good option for a group I'm running that has to deal with lots of scheduling conflicts.

Thanks for the notice!

Great! Glad to hear it. Yeah, a lot of us are people who used to have the time to play tabletop but due to increasingly complex schedules, don't anymore. PbP is a great alternative, and is a little more flexible trying to schedule around an IM game, as well.

If you have any questions, let me know!

well, I read the stickies and stuff, but didnt see how to try to register as a gm; site is not to user friendly in some respects. Took a look at the map editor tool; instructions were not to clear, but the tool looks like with some experience it could be a real assett. Are planning to add any avatars? I didnt see an efreeti than I have come to be known by as thoughtful in repose. I have no idea how to do the link a url thing.

anyway; I put a post up looking for those who might like a superhero genre game.

Thank you for your post!

I'm sorry it was unclear as to how to register to become a DM, Valegrim. We don't have a strict, formalized process in that regard, probably because we're a fairly small site. In the past, people have simply asked. When you get sufficient interest in your game and are ready to DM, please send me a PM and we'll get you set up right away.

The map editor is just linked there for DMs who wish to use it. It's certainly not a requirement to use. Some DMs prefer to make their own maps, and some don't use maps at all.

As for the avatar situation, what most people do is to use their own. We don't have any plans for adding any more at this time. If you want to use the "link a url," feature, you must first host your image at a hosting site like photobucket.com. If you would like additional help as to how to do that, please send me a PM over at unlimitedrpgs.com and I would be happy to provide what assistance I can.

Thanks again!

very nice response; thank you.

Hi DM Sirine. I've actually been looking for a PbP site I can access from work, as our Firewall doesn't like Myth Weavers. I've been running PbP games for years, first on D&D Online Games, then GhostOrb (before it died) and now Myth Weavers since almost the time that site opened. Any plans for some integrated PbP tools, like a BBCode dice roller, integrated character sheets, OOC and/or Spoiler tags, etc.? Myth Weavers probably has me spoiled...

I've actually been itching to run some Iron Heroes, so that might be an option. I'd also throw on some support for Paizo--I'll run any module they publish, and will use the new campaign setting for Pathfinder (as it appears over time).

Hi there!

Sorry to hear about your firewall situation - what a bummer! I've seen Myth Weavers and it is very advanced with lots of nice integrated tools. We're a quite bit smaller than that, but we're working slowly and steadily to add new features to our site as well, though we don't have a definitive timeline as to when those things will be in place.

Please feel free to register an account over at unlimitedrpgs.com and say howdy in our out of game section. If you have any questions, please let me know, and thanks for your interest!

Done and done!

Well, I am getting very frustrated with the unlimitedrpg site; sheesh everything is so locked down and there still are no instructions they say do this; but not how; I have had a superhero game ready to go for about a month now and can't seem to get started; I keep posting on my looking for players thread and have 4 peeps who said they had interest; but now what?
