I'm not sure if the powers that be are able (and/or willing) to answer this, but I've learned it never hurts to ask . . .
How long have you guys already been working on Pathfinder? How long have you known Dragon/Dungeon were going to be discontinued befire the public announcement?
I'm asking purely out of curiousity. By no means is this intended as some type of accusation that "You should have told us as soon as you found out, screw the NDAs!"

I mean no offense by this, but I think you should just retract this question. I can't see how it will help the matter. We all know that the folks at Paizo have known about this for some time. Web pages and artwork, campaign arcs and business decisions don't get made overnight, nor over a fortnight nor ...
The bottom line is that Paizo had enough time and thought enough of their fans that they responded with Pathfinder and Game Mastery instead of a redirect on their web site that sent you to their store for back issues and their latest board game.

Likely long enough to:
Wonder if they still had jobs.
Have screaming arguements with loved ones about stupid things like why didn't anyone wash the spoons?
Have long, long employee meetings where everyone secretly wished they owned a tazer and the guts to use it.
Have 10,000 hushed conversations between cubicles, and another 1000 instant messenger conversations in ALL CAPS.
Lie awake at night counting the bumps in the ceiling.
Fall asleep face down in front of the toilet.
Get angry, then depressed, then angry again, then motivated for the new project.

My understanding is that Paizo made the announcement to all the Distributors a few months ago on the Distributor's Forum and gave buyers time to ask questions.
I got this from a guy that owns a game store here in town. When I told him people were trying to boy-cott Wizards, his view was that it was mostly Paizo's decision to stop publishing Dragon and Dungeon. But, this is all conjecture at this point.
Here is hoping to a successful evolution of product!

I caught wind earlier in the week that something big was in the works for Thursday...but I thought it was another awesome announcement along the lines of the Necromancer partnership (I'm an optimist).

We informed select distributors ahead of time, but certainly not MONTHS ahead of time. I'm also unsure what the "distributor's forum" is ...?
Asserting that Paizo made any decision to cease publication of the magazines would be incorrect. We would've loved to publish them indefinitely--however, as a licensee, we are beholden to the license holder. WotC chose a new direction for the brands and we planned our future accordingly. It needs to be said, again, that WotC has been outstandingly gracious during this process even going so far as to extend the license four months so that the Savage Tide Adventure Path could see its finale. WotC has always been a good partner to us and we wish them well in their new venture with the brands.
Rumors are often just that: rumor. I wouldn't put too much faith in "this guy I know heard from a guy" etc. :-)

Covert secrets and shadowy suspicion are coming to get ya!
... wait, isn't that Illuminati? Now I did it!
Anyone can join the Illuminati.
Bury $10,000 in one-hundred dollar bills in a cigar box in your backyard and wait.
They'll contact you.

Damn, sounds like you have been there.
What gives?

Been there, done that, working in computers is just that way, sadly. No stability (though, for the record, I don't drink and I've only passed out in front of the toilet once -> Post-micturition syncope).
Now I work as a 3rd shift Sys Admin and bring people back from the dead on my days off. Being an EMT is a lot less stressful, but then I'm dead inside. In a strange way, it's a mirror for D&D: You carry a ton of gear down dimly lit winding staircases, dodging cockroach swarms and R.o.U.S', but at the end, instead of killing the BBEG, the cleric gives him a crack on the arse, heals him, and puts him back into play...
But enough about me; the big bummer for the staff has got to be all the changing titles, I'll bet.
