Avatar, the last Airbender

Television

I just recently found out about this cool series. (Thanks Larry for lending me your DVD's.) Who else likes this series? I think it would make a very cool D & D game too.

I have to say I do like it. I made fun of a friend for watching it, but he wouldn't turn it so I ended up watching it and I was suprised. Between the adventure, the war thing going on, and the elemental abilities it was really cool.

My fiancee watches a lot of Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel; she used to watch the series during its first season and liked it. She started watching it one day while I was at her apartment. She fell asleep, but I continued to watch. I was very intrigued. She's not a huge fan of fantasy or gaming, but since she liked the series too, she thought it would be a good way to spend some time together. We sat down and watched the entire first season in one day. It was awesome.

~grins~ My guess is that the Prince Zuko will become the King of the Fire Nation. My guess is that he will eventually realize what a monster his father is and try to over throw him with Aang's help. That is what I am seeing so far. Prince Zuko may be bitter and want his father's approval, but he is a good kid at heart.

My wife and I also love it, watched every bit of the two seasons so far.

Additionally, we also found a very nicely put together D20 version of Avatar material. It was origionally designed for use by and of itself (as in a game set in the Avatar world, no other stuff) but it seems to work just fine dropped into regular D&D. My wife is currently attempting a Minotaur Earthbender in a game im running, so far so good.

Here is the site with the PDF, and here is the WotC Forum regarding said PDF.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info, The Black Bard !!!

Liberty's Edge

Do they do anything cool, like kill dragons, and make capes out of their skins, and such?

~looks at the Were-Poodle in distain~ Nope. Sorry, puppy, but that does not happen. However, I hear that there is a special on were-poodle pelts. ~Wicked, toothy grin~ I may have to try for a few coppers on that bounty, since that is all they would give me for that mangy pelt of yours.

Glad to see some more fans here. i don't have cable, but caught an episode over thanksgiving with the family and immediately got the DVD. waiting for the next book to come out on DVD this summer is pretty harsh. i really enjoy the linking of martial arts styles to each element and the blend of eastern and western style in the same vein. character and world development are great.

Liberty's Edge

My kids (8 & 6) liked to watch this and I had seen a few episodes out of context and thought it was okay. I had caught a Season Two episode after not watching Avatar in months and found myself thoroughly confused with the development of the "bad guys". Netflix to the rescue! We're through Chapter 5 in the Book of Earth and I absolutely love this show. Hell, my son's birthday was a convenient excuse to hit Great America and get everyone Momo plushes and my own Appa. Great characters, humour that is actually funny without losing the younger viewers, and great story arcs. The d20 info on Avatar may be enough to get my daughter interested in Daddy's "dice games". ::crosses fingers::

Does anyone have a "favourite" they want to share? Episode, character, quote, critter, or the like?

The pirate episode where the cabbage salesmen makes a second appearance was great; Iroh is wise, witty, and entertaining; "penta pox? Didn't your cousin have that?" was a line right out of my own D&D game; and Appa is my favourite critter though Momo has the exact personality of my cat Charlie and why he's a huge favourite with the wife and kids.

Does anyone know when season 3 starts?

Not only that but I see Zuko becoming Aang's fire bending teacher.

Honestly, that has been something that I was also thinking. With Zuko joining the team we have a bender of all four elements. Plus the idea man / complainer man! ~GRINS~ We will just have to wait until season 3 starts to find out.

Um... didn't Zuko go to the 'dark side' and the end of season 2? I doubt he'll be Ang's firebender teacher. (My guess is either the firebender hermit who Ang already met or Zuko's uncle.)
I'm sad that Mako died, I hope they find a good replacement for Zuko's uncle. (I hope they keep Zuko's uncle in the show.)

Ah! But Zuko may have gone over to the dark side, but how much of him really did? He even wonders if he did the right thing.

I cannot believe how much I enjoy this series!

Seriously, it's good clean fun, with excellent world development and fleshed out 3 dimensional characters. My favorite character in the series is Iroh, and a lot of very interesting things happen in Season 3.

I can't wait until Chapter 14 airs...

My boys like to bite their eggo waffles into the shape of fire nation boats.

Yeah...we're big fans. :)

~grins~ Well, I have watched the first two DVDs on Book 3. I am liking how they are developing the characters. The episode where Sakka learns to swordfight is my favorite so far.

The Avatar Rules!!!

Oh and I have a fire cleric named Zuko in the Dark Sun PBP here.

We usually wait for the collection to come out, but last year it about killed us to wait for all of Book 2. *sigh*

*must...be....patient!*

Question for everyone. When and what time does the next episode of Avatar come on?

I love the series. Last i saw, they had let hot air baloon technology fall into the hands of the fire nation, Then fled to the earth kingdom in search of a Master of earthbending (aparently a blind girl).

*prepares a particularly large and fetid rutabega for a retailiatory strike*

I like how each element is represented by a different style of kung fu, and it really seems to be well thought out, following Campbell's Hero Cycle.

Ya'll know that M. Night Shamwhatsit is directing a live action version, right?

Man I had that wrong... go figure.

I really want to see what happens with Zuko's uncle.

I think 14 comes out May 6th.

Ep 13:

Spoiler:
The scene where the dragons show Ang and Zuko fire bending was awesome! I enjoyed this episode.

He'll be back. He has to be the next fire lord, after all..... :) Beside, I think Iro would be a better teacher anyways.

Scarab Sages

He can be the new firelord and still be on Ang's side... Zuko's evil/psycho sister and her traitor earth benders can be a formidible threat for Ang and his 'Scooby gang'...
