Kyuss Mini

Age of Worms Adventure Path

I mentioned in an earlier post that I wanted to share what one of my players did for our campaign by showing off his custom Kyuss mini. I added a few pics of the truly frightening mini to my photos site. Please take a minute to check it out. He did a phenomenal job. I wonder if he realizes that his creation will be the downfall of him and all his companions. ;-)

Great job Jason! (FYI - he goes by the name Stabbity Death on these forums if you'd like to toss him some props)

Liberty's Edge

Great job indeed.

Where are you at in AoW ?

We just finished the 11th installment where the characters defeated the great dracolich and are now moving onto the Dawn of a New Age. Should be wrapping up the AoW in about 4 more sessions and, whew, although it's been fun, the end game is beginning to become a grind; we're all ready to move onto something different. I think the high level play is really taking it's toll on all of us. ;-) It's taken us about 14 months to get to this point meeting 4-6 hours every week, minus holidays and the occasional b-day, etc.

I gave him a call and let him know about the props he's been getting. I'm sure he'll stop by and fill us in on how he made the lil monster.

Hey, thanks for the bragging rights, the Dragotha Project was freakin awsome, no one expected that. I lost my Barbarian for the 7th time there, but it was worth it.

I was suprised with the cavernous setting the same day I suprised him with the Kyuss mini. All the other PC's knew about it, I was just holding out, for the beginning of the final installment.

Excellent work stabbity, obviously your game is full of creative people,

but you still did not answer my question ,
HOW DID YOU MAKE IT!
huh huh huh
Sorry its so cool i have just got to know!

Wow, very nice work on that figure. Very impressed with the detail. Just one comment, wasn't Kyuss supposed to be Colossal? Or was it Gargantuan? I can't remember, no magazine nearby to check it. :)

Dark Archive

Huge, actually (I looked it up). That mini is quite a piece of work. Stabbity, you should be proud. That, plus the other pics in those albums of Blackwall Keep and Dragotha's lair will undoubtedly send my creative and sometimes OCD wife into hysterics and inspire her to new artistic heights. That was really clever to prop the different floors of the keep up on sticks, by the way. I'll have to remember that one. :)

Liberty's Edge

I asked one guy who made a collosal Kyuss and posted his video earlier. He went for Collosal for the impact but told me it was huge, I just wanted to stick with huge, it's easier to make a figure that size with what I had available. Bigger kitbashing requires heavier duty materials.

In short I used wire to make a skeleton, paper towels for the cloak and crafted wood and plastic to look like the mace/axe weapon. Wire for the worms and a good bit of paint, it took a total of about 8 hours of work over a period two weeks to compleatly finish.

I got everything from Michaels Craft Store for about $12.00, and I've got materials to make a few more. I want to make at least one more and see what I can do it better. Another of the players suggested going out on the deep end and giving it glowing eyes using some of my electronics background. I want to do it, it's just time right now.

I'll take pictures of how I did it when I try the second.

Oooh. I want one. Let me know when you set up your Kyuss-mini online store, Stabbity. I'll buy one!

Glowing eyes! Sold!!

I've crafted my own Kyuss Mini from a ring wraith figure. I thought I'd share it with everyone.

Wow, that's fantastic! Where did you get that particular figure?

Its a lord of the rings toy action figure Cool!

Did you make the worms from milliput or green stuff?

I used green stuff to craft the worms. The mace was crafted from an old paint brush, cardboard, green stuff, and plastic spikes.

The mace isn't quite as good as I'd like it to be, but it should be sufficient to scare the hell out of my players.

Saw that, but was wondering which ring wraith figure it was specifically so I could track one down. :)

You are too hard on your self i think it looks excellent,

my only criticism is use some filler to cover up the articulated joints of the figure paint over them then it would be perfect!

Black Baron, Stabbity Death, your works are awesome !

Should you want to sell them through ebay or accept offers to buy them, I would be delighted to be able to use them after you in my campaign. I unfortunately lack the time (and talent) to make one for myself.

Again, congrats.

Add me to the list of admirers and potential buyers. This is amazing stuff.

Thanks everyone. I won't be using the mini for quite some time (we're only just starting the Spire of Long Shadows). I don't think I'll be able to part with the thing though (too much love and effort went into it and I want to keep it). I encourage others to try and craft their own. Aside from the bloody mace, it was quite easy to create; worms have to be the easiest thing to create with epoxy putty.

My next endeavour will be to create the scenery for the last battle. I want everything to be perfect for what I hope to be the most memorable final battle my players and I have ever fought.

I used the witch king ringwraith from fellowship of the ring. Other ringwraith figures would probably work just as well as long as they are approximately 7".

Cheers,

Black Baron
