D&D Art Challenge!

Since I've been in a drawing mood lately, and this is partly inspired by the Iron DM competition, I challenge any artists who dare to come up with a D&D/RPG-themed piece with three ingredients. You'll have one week to come up with something, any style you want, whether it be photo-manips (as long as the stock used is for that purpose), OotS-style, or whatever. As long as it's original! Post a linky to your work, and feel free to comment or critque. :)

March 18th - March 24th
1.) Ice
2.) A potion
3.) A mummy

Refresh my memory; how does one create a link? I've never had reason to do so before.

How to make a Linky

Use the "" and "" codes.
Example:
DM Tools site

will produce this: DM Tools site

:D Hit "reply" and you'll see the code that way too. :)

I may not get it out in a week, but you know what--I think I will take you up on that there challenge. Not that I'm mister mad art skillz or nothin' but it's been a while and this looks fun.

Oh and hey Lilith. There's a post on the main D&D section I wrote at ya'. It got buried of course, but I'd like your input!

I've got an ahhh, umm,. kind of a problem...

I don't have a website, ergo; nowhere to show off my mad skillz. So, in short, where do I post my rather medocre artwork?

If you need a website to host your stuff, you can use DeviantArt - it's free to sign up and use, you just gotta put up with the adverts.

Well I'm done, pencils down. And gotta' say I'm pretty pleased with it, all things considered. Now to get it to a scanner and scan it in. Then I'll upload and link it!

You can also just get yourself a photobucket account, but nobody really comments on work left on those: it's really more of a vehicle for linking to other things.

I think this should do it.

My Submission

Let me know what you think. Just to account for the requirements:

1) Mummy--that's a mummy grabbing the adventurer, hopefully self-explanatory but hey...

2) Potion--That's a potion of explosions hefted above the dwarf's head in an act of heroic self sacrifice.

3) Ice--Ice cavern deep in the bowels of the earth that the mummy's victim is hoping to bring down and thus seal away the curse within.

Liberty's Edge

Hey, nice work Grim.

Anyone else enter?

You know, I probably would have entered my own challenge, but I ended up helping a friend move this weekend and that sucked up all of my available free time. I'll see if I can't get 'er done anyway.

Week of March 27, 2007 to April 2nd, 2007
Ingredients: Mountain cliff, longsword, griffon.

Hey Lilith, maybe you could make these a 2 week challenge, I can barely put pen to paper in a week but I do want to contribute.

FH

I'm not holding hard & fast to the week thing, Fakey. If you are inspired to do something from a previous week, do so! It's all about being inspired to create! :D

Nice to know. Thanks.

Hmm...I'm messing around with the idea of a warrior hanging from the edge of a cliff by the hilt of his longsword which he's dug into the rock face. The rest of his party tumbling through space to the ground far below. Wheeling down through the air is the griffon that presumably swiped them off...

I'm still sketching around with it to get composition and whatnot. Wow is this ever going to be the perspective piece of doom...ack.

Liberty's Edge

I had a somewhat similar composition in mind (with the longsword tumbling down) .... but I'm afraid my meagre artistic skills are far, far from the challenge.

The first thing that came to my mind, was a griffon rearing up on its hind legs on the cliff's edge, with the sword through its' neck/ chest. That, or a warrior swinging away with the longsword at some (unseen?) foe, with a griffon on his shield as a standard.

This could be alot of fun. Some friends and I did this sort of thing for a while a couple years ago. Coming up with monthly ideas and then seeing what everyone came up with. Great exercise.

Now if I could just get through all my other work first.

My two cents.

Liberty's Edge

My idea: warrior-type LEAPS off the cliff to meet the diving griffin.

I like this thread is going but didn't have time to do the last challenge....
Here is the link to my "Griffon/Cliff/Sword" pic...
Hope you like!

Hey, that's pretty awesome, Method! Go ahead and do the mummy one as well.

The Exchange

Alright here it is.

Griffon Longsword Cliff
you can click on the image to make it larger. I know it sucks but I am not near the artist I was 10+ years ago.

Fake,
Not bad at all, good composition. I like it.

...but I'm still working on the mummy one. Actually, scratch that; I have yet to start the mummy one. But I'll get to it.

Thanks, I think, with the filters I can't tell your exact meaning. I just wish my skill was what it used to be.

Man, it looks really cool to me. That's the style of drawing I wish I could do.

At long last, the mummy. It's the unwrapped variety of mummy, because it has been chased to the ends of the earth by the Wendigo. It has a potion bottle on a chain around its neck, and is covered in ice.

Hey, not bad at all! Makes me wonder what potion is in that vial....

Ok here is my mummy/ice/potion picture...
I think the locale and rest is obvious ;)

*giggles*
That's a GREAT pic, Method! :)

Glad you like it Lilith, I did that by your request ;)

Method wrote:

Now if I could only edit this post and remove that extra "http://"!

For ease of link here it is corrected...
mummy/ice/potion
fixed size of pic as well (it was waaaaay too big)

A new one! Yes, a new one to commemorate my move from one part of town to the other.

April 11th to April 17th
Books, Inn, Dwarf.

Thanks to everybody who has posted so far - I enjoy seeing what people come up with.

That is great, Meth.

So, all-mighty Lilith... What's the challenge for this week?

(I'll try to find my HB pencil and tempt my hand at this; No promises though!)

Ultradan

Hmm....

April 18th to April 24th
Golem, Jungle, Halberd.

There you go. :)

How do you come up with the 3 words for the challenge? Is it a random word generator or flip the page of a Supplement book and point randomly or something more profound? Just curious.

FH

No generator, I just sit for a minute and the words come to me. A person/creature, a place, and an object.

Brick, Cthulu, Nightmare, and Looking Back really do something for me. They're doodling, and I really enjoy doodling art. Thanks for sharing them, Shiny.

Deviant art! My college daughter has a profile there, I don't know how to do links or I'd do that for ya.
Nice work by the way, except the nightmare one, it's very creepy, but that probably exactly what you were going for.

That one's not mine. My friend's ex-girlfriend did that one. It's in my favorites, though.

You're welcome. By the way, 'Looking Back' and 'nightmare' aren't mine. They're just in my Favorites.

Here how: (I'm adding spaces so it won't actually translate the code into a working link):

Type [(filler to prevent link from working)url="(insert the actual url)"] (type the word you want hyperlinked... such as my daughter's art)

Don't forget the quotes around the url.

So [
url="http:/etetc.com"]my daughter's art
