Hi Nic,
I was wondering where the adventure was supposed to start. Does it assume the heroes are in Sharn before being thrown on the roads by their quest? Or can it start anywhere on Khorvaire?
Also, I seem to remember having read somewhere that it later takes the heroes to Q'Barra. Is that correct?
Any teasers or spilled beans welcome!!
Thanks in advance,
Bocklin

Hey Bocklin - best to catch Logue early in the afternoon - just after his nap and before his rusk time - he's not so grumpy then:)
Come on Logue! Come on out! I'm spoilin! Get in the ring! Get in the ring!:)
Sigh...I hate you, I've just read mask...my hate grows like a festering pimply boil covered in smaller, slightly less festering boils, each one of which has even smaller pimply boily things....

Hey Bocklin!
Now, you must keep in mind that I have not seen it since it went into heavy development, but this is what I know from what I wrote long ago, before WotC's staff took out their knives and went to work on my baby!!! ;-)
POTENTIALLY TOTALLY INCORRECT SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!
The action starts off in Q'barra actually, but there should be a few good ways in the book to get your PCs involved in the overarching part and set them on the path to the steamy jungles of East Khorvaire.
From there it takes a slightly piratical bent (Its All About the Pirates in D&D this year!!!) as we head into the Lhazaar Principalities.
Finally...the clues and bread crumbs lead the PCs to...tum tum tum!!!!...Argonessen for a final showdown. I don't think I should say too much more. Again this may all be changed by now, but it's what was originally concieved in WotC's outline and put into effect manuscripturally by Stephen, Tim and I.

Thanks for the reply Nic! and thanks Richard for baiting Nic here ;-)
It's exciting to hear that remote regions of Eberron will finally be covered in another book than the ECS. I hope there will be a bit of lore and some maps as well, who knows?

No problem Bocklin!
Here's the teaser on the WotC previews:
Be the first to find the Dragon's Eye
What begins as a simple expedition to explore an ancient jungle temple sends adventurers headlong into a search for the Dragon's Eye, an artifact created ages ago by demons in order to gain power over dragons. But where exactly is this mysterious artifact, and why do the Cloudreavers and the Emerald Claw think the adventurers already have it? Only Lady Vol knows the truth. Her deadly cat-and-mouse game leads the characters from the wilds of Q'barra to the wild coasts of the Lhazaar Principalities and the soaring peaks of Argonnessen. There, at last, they can learn the secret of the Dragon's Eye and foil the lich queen's plans . . . if they survive!
Eyes of the Lich Queen is a stand-alone campaign adventure for the Dungeons & Dragons game that draws on the richness of the Eberron campaign setting. Designed for heroes of 5th level, this adventure sends them on a world-spanning journey as they battle cultists, pirates, long-dead spirits, and even dragons in their search for the enigmatic Dragon's Eye.
Also if you are interested in remote regions, and if you like dragons you might dig on Dragons of Eberron. It's coming out in October.

How much synergy will there be between Eyes of the Lich Queen and Dragons of Eberron? I'm planning on purchasing the former as soon as it's released and read through it during a DMing hiatus until Dragons of Eberron is released. The hiatus is a time for me to decompress from DMing for a while and give myself a chance to sit in a player's seat while also sinking my teeth into some dragon-related sourcebooks such as Draconomicon, Races of the Dragon, Dragon Magic, and Dragons of Eberron. I'd like to know if the wait is worth it.

Hmmm...good question! Here's the deal...at the time of writing for Eyes of the Lich Queen, I had no idea we were even doing Dragons of Eberron, when we got to Dragons we tried to back-synergize, but as you can imagine, we did not want to make a whole book about Dragons have to adhere to stuff in one adventure they figured into a bit. My hope is that more synergy will happen at the development stage of things...but, who really knows.
That said, Dragons of Eberron would be incredibly useful as far as adding even more detail, interesting encounters and hooks for later adventures to the final stage of Eyes (as that takes place in Argonessen), so it might be worth the wait.
Also if you are running Eyes with new PCs for your players, it would be particularly fun to do so with PCs that have some connections to dragonkind (for reasons I can't share yet). This is not at all necessary, but it enhances the themes and fun factor a little (like having swashbuckling/piratical PCs for Savage Tide makes it even more fun). So a hiatus to get all acquainted with all those dragony books might be a good thing!
Sorry...that was a very long-winded, convoluted answer to your simple question. Boiled down: I don't know how much of a direct tie/synergy there will be between Eyes and DoE, but DoE would be a great resource for any DM running Eyes.
That's better. :-)

No apologies necessary! That's pretty much exactly what I was expecting and what I'm looking forward to. I've been wanting to run a dragon-themed adventure/campaign, possibly a homebrew setting, but I was reluctant to drop Eberron, which we only started using as of last September and enjoy immensely. This looks like the perfect opportunity to be able to keep with Eberron while trying out the "dragony" stuff even if its on a lighter scale than a full dragon-themed campaign setting.

Great Amaril! I hope the campaign goes great! I would LOOOVE to play a dragon themed campaign...or any for that matter, I always get stuck running the game as of late...I miss the player experience! Post a campaign journal of Eyes when the time comes if you get the chance, I'd love to read it (vicarious playing experience!!!). Have fun!

Hi again Nic,
Shamelessly trying to get some more spoilers out of you: are there any tie-in or references to the "Throne Gate Trilogy"* in Eyes of the Lich Queen? Maybe some recurring characters or no connections at all?
Bocklin
* I mean the first three adventures that were kick-started in the ECS and tied together; where the heroes are trying to assemble a creation pattern for House Cannith.

Nicolas Logue Contributor |

Bocklin - Nope, at least it didn't at the time of writing, though connecting the two wouldn't be too hard...there is a "benefactor" NPC in Eyes who could who show up earlier and direct the PCs toward the trilogy...or could take note of how they handled themsselves during it and recruit them afterwards.
Amaril - Not at the time of writing, don't know if development will add in any...my guess is no though...Sorry!!!
