Writing adventures to paizo

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I hope I'm not the only one when I say that I'm clueless of how the paizo rules work. First off, how do you make the illustrations and map? Do you need a scanner so you can transfer to the pc? Anyways, any info would be great- and sorry to bother, I bet there's always some guy who asks the same questions and you guys have to waste our time tying the answer.

Might I suggest downloading the writers guidlines? I'm sure all your questions would be answered there.

HF,

I've sent a few queries in and am still waiting to hear on my first submitted adventure so admittedly I'm a rookie.

First, the writer's guidelines are key. Know them, love them, refer to them often.

Second, I made my maps with a simple program and sent them as .jpg's. As for illustrations, they only contract that work out so drawing them yourself may just be a waste of time. Then again it gives the editors/artist a better idea of your concept. For all intents and purposes they will NOT be published.

Thirdly, the waiting game is necessary and many times can be frustrating. I've waited about three to four months for queries. My second got the greenlight for a submitted manuscript and I'm still waiting to hear if that needs any rewrites or is even worthy of publication. To give you an idea I submitted the proposal on 2/14/06, they asked for a manuscript on 5/11/06 and I submitted the manuscript at the end of August.

But take hope! I'm sure that many of my fellow writers (both rookie and veterans alike) would agree that the PAizo staff is phenomonal with answering questions on these boardfs and giving darn good feedback. The other posters here will also try to offer good constructive feedback so good luck!

You might want to check out the "Is there a Black Hole..." thread. You don't have to read the whole thing but the very beginning will give you some idea how long these things can take. And there have been a few adventures that take over two-years to get from accepted query to print and even if you get something accepted there's still a chance that they might come back and say they can't use it anymore. Best advice follow the guidelines and submit like crazy. Check out the "Critique my Query" thread too.

Good luck,
GGG
