I'm suddenly getting a vision of an intelligent Shadow Pearl in the mode of the smart bomb from Dark Star, with Vanthus having to constantly talk it out of detonating while still on board his ship.

Roll one up and sub it for a magic weapon in the game. There is a +1 longspear imbedded in a skeleton in the latest installment that could be switched out to an intelligent weapon (maybe it became infused with the corpse's soul or something). Just make sure the powers it has are not overpowered yet useful throughout the path, like some of the "detections" and maybe a CLW once a day. You could probably give it a special mission also. I could see a second ranker carrying this throughout the path, especially if you allowed it to be upgraded somewhat.

I would love one in STAP, as it was in 2nd edition when I had one in my campaign (as player). Far too long!
Yes, but I thought it would be great if the item actually played a role in the plot, as "someone" with an interesting personality, not just as someones cool shortsword.

I would definately like that, too. Perhaps an important NPCs soul gets sucked into the weapon of certain deathknight or such, as above mentioned.
I believe we do have a few intelligent items on the schedule, but nothing in a major role for the campaign. Unless one of our authors decides to include one, of course!
