Does it really take over 5 weeks to mail a magazine to Ontario?

Customer Service

I've really only subscribed for 2 years. It seems like every 3 months or so, my copy never arrives. The rest of the time it takes 6 weeks or more to arrive from the 'shipped' date.

Any one else in Ontario, or Canada for that matter, have issues like this? I seem to recall Canada Post claims it can ship anywhere in the country in about a week. How is the U.S. postal system this much worse?

Liberty's Edge

I hear you, man. The reason I let my subscriptions lapse a few years ago was cos of this - most issues take ages to arrive, some never arrive at all.

I signed up again cos the mag is so good, but already the shipping issues (no pun intended) are cropping up once again. Issue #349 was shipped on October 3rd and yet it still has not arrived. That is not-cool.

Dark Archive

I'm convinced it's a border/customs issue. Either that, or someone in customs plays D&D and is snagging our issues for some light reading at work.

I've had problems in the past - the best solution is to call Paizo and ask them to reship the issue. They're really good about it.

Please consider checking out this thread, especially my post near the end.

If you're confident that an issue has gone missing, let us know, and we'll reship.

I wouldn't believe a thing Canada Post claims. I have dealt with them for far too long to believe any more of their lies. I would bet any kind of money the problem is on Canada Post's end and not the USPS. And I say this as a red maple syrup blooded Canadian.

My magazines take a while to show up (usually a week after I see them on the newsstand) but the deep discount i get for subscribing is more than enough compensation, imo.

You're not alone bud. I just got Dungeon #140 yesterday! I also called Canada Post about this, but all they said is that they will look into it, and I have never heard back since.

Canada Post strikes again!

We've (as of yet) not received either Dungeon #142 (shipped 14 Nov), nor Dragon #350 (shipped 7 Nov).

Rather odd considering we've just received Dragon #351 which shipped on November 28!

We live in Burlington, Ontario, and are constantly fighting a losing battle against the simply awful service standards of Canada Post (constant mid-deliveries, not dropping any mail to the entire street for 2 days etc etc)..... Trouble is there's little else in terms of option.

We'll be putting in another complaint with Canada Post, and I'll be e-mailing Paizo to see if they can re-send the lost issues (not for the first time unfortunately).

Cheers

Chris

I'm a Torontonian, well an Etobicokan? okian? okite?, anyways I've only been subscribing for about 6 months but I've got all issues, though they arrive a day or so before the next one ships, so a 4 week travel time.

Mississaugan checking in. I'm in the same boat as most of you. Dungeon 140 never showed up, so I had to get a replacement from Paizo. Dungeon 142 never showed up, so I've got a replacement coming. Dragon 351 arrived two weeks before Dragon 350. This is frustrating.

Once the Savage Tide adventure path is done (I'm digging it and so are my players) I doubt I'll renew my subscriptions. It's a higher cost at the newsstand but I'm guaranteed to get the issues I want.

If there are problems with Canada Post its got to be some kind time warp at the border. Canada Post is excellent. I ship an average of 5 products a day with them and in the last three years I hadone box go missining around christmas. It reappeared but by that time I had been forced to deal with an irate customer and had resent the package. Still one messed up shipment in around a thousand is pretty damn good and their fairly quick. My customers in British Columbia (I ship from Toronto) get their material in about 5 business days in general.

So its not the reguler Canada Post system thats the problem. Now maybe there is some kind of bulk magazine system thats far worse then the regular system. If thats the issue then I have no personal experience with it and can't make an educated comment.

An excellent point. It certainly isn't our intent to disparage the entire Canada Post (though, I realize sometimes it does sound like it).

Keep in mind that what we are dealing with when we have complaints of delays in the delivery to Canada, is in fact a very small percentage of the very large number of magazines we ship to Canadian subscribers. For the most part, magazines show up in a timely manner. It's just that the problems are the only ones we hear about, so it seems to be a bigger problem than it actually may be.

By no means do I want to diminish the problems we do hear about, but it's unfair to Canada Post not to mention the thousands of subscribers to never have a problem. For the people we do hear from, we are working to pinpoint the source of any problems so we may eliminate them.

We should also keep in mind that our magazines are shipped via USPS periodicals rate. As this is a low class of mail, if there's any mail that will be delayed for any reason (any reason), it will be the magazines. I know this is true for mail in the USPS mail system and I would assume it carries through Canada Post. Add the necessary processing that occurs as mail crosses an international border, and you end up with delays that range from unpredictable to downright illogical.

Therefore, our estimated time arrival time of "within three weeks of the ship date" is admittedly slightly arbitrary, but it works out that most (if not all) of the magazines that are going to arrive, arrive within that timeframe.

So, Canada Post, you can call these two huge (but surprisingly nice) guys with suits and hockey sticks who've been looming over my shoulder, home now.

Thanks!
