Rangers & the Many Shot feat question.

I'm having a problem understanding the rules for the many shot feat coupled with the rapid shot feat. My 6th level ranger now has a base attack of +6/+1 and a 19 Str (+4 mod.). With the many shot feat and the rapid shot feat does that mean I would get with a masterwork comp. longbow (+1 Str), 2 arrows at +7, another 2 arrows at +7, and two more arrows at -2 to hit all in one round? Only within 30' and as a full round action of course. Seems like too many arrows for a 6th level character! Oh, yeah, I do have the archery combat style so I don't need the prerequisites.

Many Shot and Rapid Shot do not stack, actually. Many Shot is used as a standard action while Rapid Shot requires use of the full-attack action.

Ah, ha! Thanks!

Manyshot is a standard action, so the ranger could close within 30 feet and fire two arrows at the same target. You only roll once, so with your submitted information the roll would be:

+8 range (maximum 30 feet): masterwork composite longbow: +1 STR (2d8+3 points of damage). If you roll a critical hit, only the first arrow would do critical damage. A confirmed critical hit would be 4d8+5, which includes the first arrow for triple damage 3d8+4 and the second arrow deals normal damage for another 1d8+1. This also includes the +1 bonus to attack and damage that you get from Point Blank Shot, which is a prerequisite for Manyshot. If the ranger does not need the prerequisite feat then reduce the attack and damage roll by one.

Rapidshot is a full round action, with the submitted information the rolls would be:

+5/+3 range (within 110 feet): masterwork composite longbow: +1 STR (1d8+1/x3) for each arrow that successfully strikes. Or:

+6/+4 range (within 30 feet): masterwork composite longbow: +1 STR (1d8+2/x3) for each arrow that successfully strikes, if you are have the Point Blank Shot feat.

I think that covers it. Thing to remember is that with Manyshot feat you only target one individual and it is a standard action. Rapidshot is a full round action and you can choose to attack multiple opponents.

Increase that ranger's dexterity which will increase his attack bonus with range weapons, both those feats are fun so enjoy.

Good Gaming!

assumptions: level 6 ranger, point blank shot, +2 dexterity modifier, masterwork bow.

manyshot, outside 30': +6 + 2 + 1 (-range penalty) - 4 = +5 (-range penalty)

manyshot, within 30': +6 +1 +2 +1 -4 = +6

rapid shot, outside 30': +6 + 2 + 1 (-range penalty) - 2 = +7 (-range penalty) {this modifier used twice} AND +1 + 2 + 1 (-range penalty) - 2 = +2 (-range penalty)

rapid shot, within 30': +6 + 1 + 2 + 1 - 2= +8 {this modifier used twice} AND +1 + 1 + 2 + 1 - 2 = +3

the primary benefit to rapid shot is 3 attacks at up to 3 opponents; manyshot is 2 arrows at one opponent. rapid shot is more likely to hit, per roll, but manyshot has fewer rolls with which to miss. the other good thing about rapid shot is that it allows opportunity to critically hit with each arrow, which manyshot does not do (only the first one strikes critically, if the confirmation roll comes through).
