I need a some background material for a side trek involving a traveling circus...anyone have any suggestion from Dungeon back issues(or anywhere else for that matter) Kind of in a time crunch.

TSR published an old adventure or module that centered around a travelling circus. There is also a good circus theme in the Palladium games Rifts: vampire Kingdoms.

Issues #'s and adventure titles are escaping me, but here's some ideas:
Cry Wolf has a carnival in town, not really a circus. And the adventure doesn't have a lot to do with the carnival.
There was an adventure where a guy had a traveling circus of weird creatures. They get out, players have to get them.
THe adventure with the kobolds trying to track down a magic box feels "circus-y" though I don't think there was really a circus in it.

"Carnival" from the old Ravenloft line centered around a traveling freak show.
World of Darkness: Midnight Circus by White Wolf is a good source for a Mr. Dark, Something Wicked-esque circus with vampires, mutants, dark fey, ghosts, witches, and pretty much anything else you could imagine.
