Demogorgon is a chick.

I was reading through the immortal boxed set (TSR 1017) looking for references to demogorgon to get ready for the STAP. Much to my surprise, right there on page 34 it describes Demogorgon as a she.

This may explain his/her internal conflict.

It also claims she often polymorphs into a 'child in mortal peril' (tm) and lies in wait for unsuspecting adventurers.

Yeah, I've always thought of Demogorgon as a girl because of that very book. In reality, he's probably just an "it."

Wow.

Needless to say, not everything that's ever been printed about Demogorgon is accurate...

Maybe just one of the heads is female. That would explain the schism/conflict.

I mean, I love my wife...but if our heads were grafted together onto the same body and I couldn't get any 'away' time, I would be completely bug nuts, too.

Heh. So I take it this aspect of Demogorogn's personality will NOT find its way into SATP.

Nope. Demogorgon's pretty much been a guy in every other incarnation of D&D, so we're sticking with that.

On a metaphysical note can a demon real be classified as male or female? We assume that since it is exhibits male characteristics or appears as a female it must be so.

I suppose the term of outsider is appropriate in this case. A demon would be outside our ability to fully understand.

Guess I'm a little bored at work right now.

Then again, if I had the ability to spontaneously sprout female characteristics, I'd never leave the house...;-)

Liberty's Edge

If I game in Savage Tide, I vow to give ole' two-head the Croc Dundee check.
Then, I'll resurrect that thread about interesting character deaths.
"I just HAD to know!"
Great thread name, BTW.

That's gross.

Maybe he/she/it is just extremely butch? Or female-to-male transexual? Or female-to-male-to-child-to-glowing-ball-of-slime-to-... undeterminable.

Excuse me while I go pour some green slime into my brain to try and get rid of that image...

Female involvement is always a pretty good explanation for conflict & confusion :P

Just joking!!! (starts dodging tomatoes, eggs, stones...)

Now that it has been mentioned, i must say i have also tended to view demogorgon as a female.. insofar as demonladies have genders, rather than being alterable at will ;)

Yup, as fun as PMS jokes are, I do think there are plenty of demons (and angels too, I guess) where genders are either not applicable or matter of choice. Especially on the chaotic side of the wheel.

This is starting to resemble a thread from Fark.com
