I was reading through the immortal boxed set (TSR 1017) looking for references to demogorgon to get ready for the STAP. Much to my surprise, right there on page 34 it describes Demogorgon as a she.
This may explain his/her internal conflict.
It also claims she often polymorphs into a 'child in mortal peril' (tm) and lies in wait for unsuspecting adventurers.

Needless to say, not everything that's ever been printed about Demogorgon is accurate...

Nope. Demogorgon's pretty much been a guy in every other incarnation of D&D, so we're sticking with that.

On a metaphysical note can a demon real be classified as male or female? We assume that since it is exhibits male characteristics or appears as a female it must be so.
I suppose the term of outsider is appropriate in this case. A demon would be outside our ability to fully understand.
Guess I'm a little bored at work right now.
