I think it would be hunky dory, just don't have ninja critter people coming out of the woodworks.
My main problem with it was there'd be a player who wants to be a ninja, in a "European" setting that has no ninja clan written into it. If there was a reason for there to be a ninja there, then fine.
The second problem I have with it is having to come up with a backstory for why the character's ninja clan has inserted him into this adventuring party. OR he's a rogue ronin ninja; why isn't he being hunted by his former clan?
If I want to run a game with ninja in it, I'd rather the party were all members of the ninja clan, doing missions for them.
It would seem a little less cheesy to me, than this ninja guy running around with a bunch of pseudo-European adventurers traipsing about in dungeons for loot. Ninjas should be assassinating people and spying and that sort of thing.

...and eating lots of pizza and talking with surfer-guy accents and fighting were-rats...
How deep does the taint of the ninja class go? I ask because I'm contemplating filing off the asian bits (the name, the asian weapons, etc), renaming it the assassin class, and running with it.
Make sure to check out Dragon #348 when it comes out. I promise ninja goodness in Class Acts. Of course, we've already printed one CA for ninja a few months back (can't remember which one off the top of my head and don't have my Dragons near me) by Kyle Hunter. AND I suspect there'll be at least one more ninja-related CA before the end of Savage Tide's run...
Not that I like ninja or anything... ;P

I don't care what people say...ninjas rock!!! You get to be a ninja! a NINJA!!! So cool.
I just bought the new incarnation of the TMNT game for playstation 2 and I am playing the s%%@ out of that thing. I love the turtles. The palladium game "TMNT and Other Strangeness" was Brendan Victorson and my favorite game for years.

I like ninja okay.
And the Girl From Ipenema was good the way Stan Getz played it.
Then they beat that song to death.
And in the 80's Hollywood beat ninja to death.
You know what Pirates of the Carribean II needed? How bout a ninja assassin? Maybe a crab man with a kyoketsu shoge working for Davy Jones. And shuriken. Lotsa shuriken.

The ninja embodies my problems with D&D (mind you, I'm a huge fan, but like all fans, I have my gripes). The problem extends to all genre-specific games that I've played, and centers on the confusion between setting aspects and mechanical aspects.
For example, someone might want to play a character that does "ninja things", but is actually a member of the Nightsong gang. Training in quasi-mystical arts of infiltration, stealth and assassination are not strictly Eastern, and in a world where magic works, I would expect it to be MORE common! Why isn't it available in a more generic way, then? Well, because classes in D&D conflate setting details with mechanical details.
I don't want to see a D&D 4.0, becuase I have too large an investment in 3.5, but if 4.0 ever did happen, I'd consider it a failure if it didn't isolate the setting from the mechanics just a bit more (3.0 actually got the ball rolling).
Back to the topic: I hope that any eastern *setting* elements that are introduced are introduced within the story in a way that makes sense. Of course, given that the adventure takes place far to the south of the Amedio, and we know that there's some strong Eastern influence in that part of the world, I don't think that will be a problem.

Rich! Where have you been! I was practically raping you in another thread and you paid me no nevermind. It was sort of heart-breaking actually!
I remember when the TMNT comics came out! Right after I did! Now that I am big boy going on eight, thank you very much Mr. Pett, I can really appreciate the ground breaking intellectual exploration of Eastman and Laird's work. I find their commentary on the environmental dilemas we face as a people mingled with our unhealthy abstraction and Orientalism (in the tradition of Edward Said's analysis that is) of the Far East and the japano-sinocization of our pop culture to be quite...urrh-ME LIKIE NINJA TURTLES!!!
