Bringing the PCs together

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Will we see an encounter as in the SCAP or just a hook as in the AoWAP? I was thinking of a hot day in the Port District (Azure Cathedral District), some fishermen bring in the catch of the day. They take their heavy net out of the water with the help of a wooden crane. But above the heads of merchants, sailors and other workers the net bursts open and releases next to the silver fish a four armed sahuagin. The crowd is terrified but waits to see what happens. Five daredevils step out, challenge the sea devil and save the day! A young noblewoman named Lavinia Vanderboren stands nearby and is very interested in the new heroes.

Just a thought...

Hehe, thats actually pretty cool.

I was thinking as I was reading that though:
"The net opens and four adventurers fall out onto the docks! The DM then goes back to the doomed ship that sank off the coast, the last voyage of the Lucinda" or somesuch. Wierd the directions thoughts take.

Perhaps our wannabe heroes sit in a ... tavern.

An aquatic elf joins their table. He is very quiet. The fragile man shivers and drinks silently his ale. Then suddenly he bursts into a wild frenzy. After the brave heroes took down the madman, his right hand releases a little black pearl. Rolling over the floor and vanishing in a black hole.

This would be too early, wouldn't it? :)

Some things I was thinking about were what if all the party members had served on the same ship in the past or under the same captain (not necessarily at the same time in either case)? Perhaps a call goes out in town to muster a crew for Cap'n X or that the SS Whatever has been recomissioned and will set sail again. However, without knowing what the first adventure entails, I don't know if this is feasible.

Pressganged!

Stranded on some island?

Survivors floating on the debris of their (now sunken) ship?

Prisoners who wake up in the cells after a nasty bar-brawl, only they all wake up with the same tattoo? (When they put them together its a [treasure] map?)

Each player hears about a mysterious island/ship/cove whatever from an old salt, and for whatever reason greed/curiosity/intense boredom elects to investigate.

Alternately they could be passengers on a three hour cruise...

The Exchange

Four youths are enjoying a fine afternoon of swimming and ale consumption on one of the youth's small sailboats when a hand appears on the railing. A man in tattered clothing pulls himself over the side, uttering "It..." just before dying. The youths find a map of a mountainous island with a small picture of a two-headed baboon marked on the highest peak on the island.

I was thinking of discribing a fire lit inn on a cold rainy night- the smell of salt water in the air, a group of children are gathered around a village elder- a noted story teller.
" Children, have I ever told the story of how I first came to this village- and eventually saved the world?"
" It was a night just like this one - I had just come in to warm my bones by the fire- and hopefully find some work...(dm asks pc#1 to discribe himself)continues into back story " it wasn't long before the the door opened again- nights like this tend to attract the worst types ( old man grins) she was tall...(pc #2 describes herself)...

and so on- the tales plays out with it all being a tale told by one of the pcs

This one is great:)

"Prisoners who wake up in the cells after a nasty bar-brawl, only they wake up all with the same tatto? (When they put them together it is a map)"

by R-type

The young PCs find themselves all stranded on a sandbar after the captain of the pirate ship they were working for decides that they weren't performing up to his standards. Marooned for several days, the last thing the PCs expect is to be rescued by a merchant vessel sent expressly to get them.

Liberty's Edge

The party is in a tavern brawl that gets out of hand.
Then the party is in jail.
Then there's a dog outside the jail cell, holding a set of keys in its mouth. The party is desperately trying to beckon the dog within arms reach somehow.
Then, the dog drops the keys and says, "hey, do you guys want a job?"

All the future heroes take some drinks in a tavern, in the district of Olidammara. A villainous quasit poisons their beverages and the PCs get to know each other in a back alley giving their drinks back the way they came in to the cobblestones :o

Perhaps you want to learn more about our poisoner:

I didn't know where to post my question properly, but as it originates in this thread...

I am planning to feature a sahuagin in the first encounter in the port district of my STAP campaign. So maybe I will purchase the miniature in the paizo store. As I am living in Germany I would like to know how much additional costs would I have to face for the transport?

affiliations, in another thread named thus, should serve aswell... belonging to the same club/cult/gang and basically ordered to serve ;)

Liberty's Edge

I thought getting shanghaied by a group of thugs wielding belaying pins was pretty much a crucial and required event for this sort of adventure.
