I originally posted this inquiry as part of another post in the rant thread but now I realize that if I hope to get any assistance it must stand alone.
I remember hearing on the radio a speech by a canadian journalist extolling the virtues of america despite the trend of other nations to speak ill of our young country. Does anyone know where I can find a .wav file of this speech or maybe a transcript of it, thanks.
Thanks
Tam

I'm not sure if this is the speech you mean, but it is the only one that springs to mind.
The page has a transcript and background information. A link on the page points to the audio recording of the speech.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help, I don't know if that is the one, but will check it out in a moment. Jeremy Mcdonald pointed me in the direction of the speech I was looking for. If you want to see it check out the Rant thread, there is a link there. Again, thanks.

This probably isn't the speech you're referring to, but there was a series of essays in the final issues of 'Cerebus' by Dave Sim, entitled "Why Canada Slept", in which he bemoaned the actions of his own government to 9/11, compared to the more robust attitude of their neighbours to the south.
Sim is from Kitchener, Ontario, and has been able to use the back pages of the Cerebus comic for various projects, some popular and well-received (The Creators' Bill of Rights, The Guide to Self-Publishing, promotion of small-press titles, advice to retailers on how to make their shops a success), and some infamously controversial (his advocacy of religion, his anti-media stance, his views on marriage/divorce/parenthood, and his assertion that society has been destroyed by feminisation, to name just a few).
He's an acquired taste, to say the least, and he sometimes harms his own argument by trying too hard to be clever and beating around the bush, but if you can unravel his sometimes tortuous syntax, there's often a logical argument trying to get out.
What I enjoy is his sheer uncompromising nature, and the fact that he's not afraid to cut the crap, which often results in him winding up both sides (not an easy task!). As an example, he's a born-again Muslim, who denounces the leaders of the Arabic states (and the imams) as traitors to the ideas of Islam, and champions the state of Israel. Hardly a typical demographic. Whatever you might think of his argument (and it is a long, well-researched argument...) you have to respect the balls of the guy!
