Hi Guys-
Ive Written many an adventure, And if your a DM like me you have probably spent time Trolling the Net either looking for other Home made adventures - Or A place to put yours out there for people to play.
I have One adventure online right now called A QUESTION OF RELIGION - Link-
http://www.rpgarchive.com/index.php?page=adv1&advid=808\
And Im working on Many more.
What I wanna Know is how come there are only 2 sites ( That no one seems to be manning ) besides a few twisted quarter funtioning AD&D sites where you can put your adventures? Is WOC the only place adventures are allowed to come from now?
Or does no one make Modules Unless they are getting paid?
Does any one Know of Any more sites? And Why dont We have a site where we can put all our adventures here?
I appeal to you my D And D brothers for answers and Help.

I suspect that you'll find a lot of partial writeups and campaign logs, but few adventures. (You'll find some, I'm sure-- it'll just take some googling to find them.)
I've found it's a lot more effort to prepare materials to share on the web than it is to sketch by hand, etc. Plus, the big advantage home campaigns have- adaptation to a specific group- are the disadvantage to sharing the module more generally. After all, if you're including a captured coded map so your Rogue's Decipher Script skill will shine, another GM will have to work around it, since his group's bard didn't take it. (Etc.)
Good luck.

my primary reservation with trying to publish any adventures right now is that my adventures are part of the overall campaign, they grow in part from previous adventures, from character details and goals, and from the backdrop of the campaign world.
My secondary (and actualy more compelling) reservation is that I will use any reasonable resource to include in building an adventure. NPCs, creatures from various sources (mainly official, but not all, and some from specific campaign settings, and therefore non-canon), partial plotlines, and maps ranging from pre published adventures to floorplans of college campuses and houses i've dealt with show up all over the place in my campaign. To present for publication any of my modules, I would have to rework many of these features, often to the point where the entire module has to be rewritten and/or rethought.
My third reservation is the question of which version to try to publish....the one i originally wrote? or the one that circumstances of the game ended up necessitating play? Citing my current campaign, which to date has contained six seperate 'modules' and twice as many role playing sessions that built up to the modules or from them, only one actually ended up being played almost exactly as written.
To date, i have two modules that may be presentable in the 'normal' sense, having negated all of the above concerns. (note, these two modules are set for the current campaign but have not come into play yet, so the third reservation could well apply)
It may be an interesting exercize to look into this kind of option, trying to present a module in this kind of medium to cut my teeth before submitting to Dungeon, which i have to admit is a long term goal of mine. Of course, that leads to the extra quandary...does one want to put 'out there for free' a module that may, with a little more work and presentation to an editor who can take on a 16 HD slushpile may someday be a publishable adventure. I can't even tell you what a rush it would be for me to see my name stuck in as an author of something taking one of the places of honor beside the current running AP....
[ramble off, ponder the concept a bit more, keep the campaign going, and look at what you do and what may be workable for this goal later]

To answer your question directly, why would authors take the time to write, construct, and polish all of the elements that go into a "finished product" adventure and NOT submit it for publication to a gaming publisher? I'd venture to say that few adventures that aren't worth publishing ARE worth posting...

ACE, speaking for myself, pure love of the game and a desire to share my work with others, even if I don't get paid for it.
I have MANY adventures I've written for a number of different campaigns I ran that I would be more than happy to post on a site that offered free adventures to the public. Now, to be honest, a good portion that I thought fitting for Dungeon were proposed to the Paizo staff, but didn't pass muster for one reason or the other. Many of those are sitting in my PC looking for some game play. I suppose I could have approached other publishers to get them out there, but general laziness or lack of continued interest stopped that from happening.
If there are any sites people would like to share for free adventure posting, I'm there and would love to share. I think DMFTodd has one, but can't remember what the link is.

I have had my fare share of adventrue writing, but now I have made it a hobby of sorts of producing them on mp3 or wave format to listen to. The last one I did was "Rat Pits of Orin" it so happens I have it on my puter at home and can send it in file via internet. It so happens Steve Greer and his gang have heard it so I would be more than happy to share the sounds and effects. Its like old time radio meets D&D.

Y'know, at one time, I started a gaming website with hopes of turning it into something that might would end up hosting free adventures and such. If there is actual interest in it, I might could be persuaded to revive the efforts and figure out how to actually make it all work... If you are interested, drop an email of encouragement to me - "outlands" living "at" "mailcity" "dot" "com" - and let me know what you think about it all.
I might even actually flesh out my kobolds adventure and post it there...

Good for you Murk! I personally am an idiot when it comes to writing adventures. They always seem to lack the cooordination that the published ones have. Nevertheless, I aplaude anyone with the cajones to set there stuff up for public display.
I will indeed check out your adventures, I am always looking for "sidequests" that I can slip into my campaign to give my players a break from the main plot line. Got anything like that brewing?
