In the Test of the Smoking Eye, while on Occipitus the adventurers run into the cleric of Wee Jas. It mentions that she is looking for information about the Lens of the Blacksun.
Is this important information? Is it just something that is mentioned in passing?
What is the Lens if it is important? I have been unable to find any more information about it.
Thanks!

It's backstory for the purpose of fleshing out an NPC. If you want to develop the story, go for it. If not, it has no effect on the rest of the AP.
I like it when little tidbits like this are thrown into the mix. It sparks your imagination in ways that having everything laid out for you doesn't.

Yes I love little reasons for existence. Especially when its just for a random encounter. Shows the developer makes a real effort to present a complete encounter.
If I roll it up as an encounter I think I will develope it. Not that far in. Maybe some hidden artifact on Occipitas that turns someones eye into a black sun. What powers to assign I have no idea. Actually would be interesting to know if the artifact has any meaning at all in the designers homebrew campiagn.

The first thing I thought of when I read the name of the artifact was also the Dark Lens from the Dark Sun campaign world. It is a terrifying artifact, not only because of its own fearsome power, but because it can be used to unleash the greatest evil of all from its prison.
I dont have any Darksun stuff. Care to elaborate? Especially if you know which module/source it appeared in specificaly in Darksun.
Thanks.

The Dark Lens is a large (10 ft diameter) peice of polished obsidian. In it there are "veins" that are reddish, and they swirl around.
This artifact was used in the creation of the sorcerer-kings of the campaign world.
The exact specifics of the Dark Lens can be found in "The Psionic Artifacts of Athas", or some other such name.
Most. Powerful. Artifact. Ever.

The Dark Lens was described in the original Pentad set of five novels written for Dark Sun, and I believe it was also given game stats in a Dark Sun book about artifacts or magic items (can't remember the name of the book). The Dark Lens is the most powerful artifact in the Dark Sun world, and the Pristine Tower is the most powerful magical location. When the Dark Sun is used to focus the power of the Pristine Tower, pretty much anything can be done. This is how the First Sorcerer in the Dark Sun world of Athas (the guy who invented arcane magic) creates the original Champions, immortal beings of immense power and terrible evil which were created to each wipe out an entire race of Athas (Borys to destroy all dwarves, Andropinis to destroy all elves, etc.)
The Dark Lens is described as a psionic item. In the novels, a psion can use the Dark Lens to shape reality with his mere thoughts at will. The Lens focuses psionic, arcane or divine energy ten fold or more. At one point, a low level cleric casts a light spell through the Lens, and the Lens transforms the spell into a fiery blast capable of causing great damage to a near-divine being.
