A gathering of winds and flycatcher (Spoilers for all!)

Age of Worms Adventure Path

Hi all,
First post on these forums, so if I break any rules, I hope the moderators go easy on me.
Anyway, was reading through a gathering of winds and it got me thinking. Flycatcher asks that the seal of law be returned to him/it/that after Moreto is offed, so two possibilities come to mind both of which I'm curious as to how they play out.

1.) The PCs being the lawful good children that they are, return the seal of law to Flycatcher post haste.

Flycatcher being Lawful and not evil will probably return Toto to them and they can be on their merry way sans a major artifact and quite possibly the safest way into the final resting place of Icosiol's tomb.
Now, I have a problem here, personally, I'm all for screwing players if they did something stupid, up to and including TPK, I suppose. But can it really be argued that their actions in this case were "stupid"? They have at great personal danger completed what is known in vulgar parlance as a "Quest" given to them by no less than a "NPC". In usual circumstance this situation calls for loot and leveling, but I notice no such proviso in the adventure.

And possibility numero dos;

2.) The PCs legend lore the heck out of the seal of law and then proceed to loot the tomb it in the safest way possible (i.e. via the seal) and proceed past flycatcher on the way out bearing with them a duke's ransom in treasure.

WWFD? What would Flycatcher do indeed... They mention that Flycatcher himself does not understand why his psychosis keeps drawing him back to the wind duke's tomb (lawful psychotics, I am sincerely impressed Dungeon crew.) and I wonder if he was drawn there by the unspoken command of the Deceased wind Duke's presence. But back to WWFD, would melee ensue? Or would the calming presence of a long dead entity of law descend upon Flycatcher as well? What if the PCs return him the seal of law and hide the loot? Would that percipitate into a similar situation as stated in situation 1?

Answers would be most appreciated,

Well on the way back up to flycatcher, the PC's will notice the secret tunnel, and proced to examine it.

I think no matter what the scenario, Flycatcher's paranoia and perceived status as guardian is just too much to reason with. You can feel justified just letting the spider go crazy over some perceived slight, such as an imagined crack or chip on the MAGICAL ARTIFACT he's holding (I used that on my party: they spent their first round of combat trying to explain why it was impossible :)

FC Round 1: "Thieeeves! Desecratorssss!"
PCs Round 1: "But... I mean... c'mon, it's an ARTIFACT for crying out..."

FC Round 2: >SMASH<
PCs Round 2: "Aw forget it... JUST KILL IT!"

Plus, if the players seem to be on their way out after handing over the Seal, you could have Flycatcher swear that he'll never let them break into the True Tomb of Icosiol during combat. That might get them to turn around and head back for another look.

Ah well,
It would be hard to reason with Flycatcher. So it'll be melee then.

I know this post is dormant by a year or so, but we're just getting around to GoW. I enjoyed the first post by prototype00, as I really enjoyed the character of Flycatcher it was a good topic. It always made me think of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, that knight who was the last in the line of protectors. In the end he stepped back for a new guardian, (Indy?) and waved good bye as the entire tomb collapsed about him.

I would have to RP the whole lawful psychosis, perhaps bringing him to the breaking point. A splintered mind that could fall in upon itself and in the end protect the tomb from himself.

Oh yeah!
