Good imagination needed for the Barghest. Help.!

I was wondering if anyone has seen a decent development on the Barghest? They come from Gehenna to the prime yet the Manual of the Planes makes no mention of them on Gehenna and there is little else I can find.Has anyone done something good in their campaign with these beasties? Presently I am having them use a Etheral Curtain to enter the plane since they don't seem to have anyway to do it themselves other than blink, which just points me to the etheral plane idea. Any suggestions are welcome as I am having total writer's block and have even considered having the players find interdimensional bus passes on the Barghest's bodies...any and all ideas are welcome! City transit is pretty scary though....

I have used barghest before and either created this or read it somewhere:

When a barghest whelp is born in the stinking rifts of Gehenna, it knows it must devour life force to grow. It uses a one-time plane shift ability to send it to places where the pickings are easy (PMP is a good place, but in a planar campaign, I don't know why the barghest can't go anywhere, albeit it may not survive long there) and there it lairs and grows in power until it's own personal power is strong enough to allow it to return to it's home plane (again via plane shift).

I likened this ability to the instinctual rooting of a female puppy. Once born, she instinctively knows to look for her mother and what to do when she gets there. Once strong enough to mate, the dog knows she must remain nearby her puppies so they can draw nourishment from her. This behavior is also 'one time' in that the female dog only preforms this instinctual behavior at birth and right after giving birth and at no other times in her life.

Worked for me at least :)

Ugh. I feel the glimmerings of an ecology. Does anyone know if a Barghest has been given the Dragon treatment?

I am actually currently revising the manuscript of just this for Wesley and the Dragon folk. Don't know when it will see print...I have to finish the revision first.

Wesley, if you are watching these boards...I haven't forgotten, Dungeon dealines been chasing me around the room. I'll have this to you before the month is out. Better get back to work. ;-)

Did anyone see "The Passion of the Christ" when the Roman judge gives the "flip him over we need to do the other side" signal? Ok,I think what your saying is your working on a Barghest ecology but then you don't even give a rough outline in your post,a tidbit nothin? Mr.Roman guy,I don't need more torture drop some details!....please....

::Nick grabs his barbed razorwire cat o' nine tails off the wall and advances menacingly::

Actually, I don't know that I am allowed to blurt out too much from the article. Sorry! :-(

In response to your transit problems, I would have some diabolic barghest with class levels be ferrying the others across via plane shift, or similar magic. Might make a good big boss for later in the campaign.

I can say there will be some cool new feats in and a lot of ideas on running barghests as villians.

::Thank you Sir may I have another!:: Lol,well I await the article like a kid waiting on Xmas, till then I wing it.I think the Barghest could make pretty good villians myself. With the yugoloths migrating in mass to Gehenna the Barghest would definately lose the alpha predator status and some prime realestate.I have them forming a alliance with the Nighthags(from the yugoloths home plane)to learn more of the yugoloths and to help the Barghest establish more permanent links to the material plane. The Nighthags should be pretty adept at traveling the etheral plane. I also have them pushing the goblin race to embrace lycanthropy to more closely emulate the Barghest and to make the little guys a much more forminable army for the Barghest. Then its either push back on the yugoloths or invade the material plane.Should be fun.
