the thread about the "Oerth Hardback" got me to thinking...
instead of a compendium of a mixed batch of contents, I'd rather see Dragon Compendiums future volumes be separated in themes
i know this would probably not be the most marketable thing to do because with a mixed bag, there is probably better sales (just a guess), but most definitely i would personally rather have specialized
examples:
1) Dragon Comp. Volume II : Oerth
2) Dragon Comp. Volume III : Toril
3) Dragon Comp. Volume IV : Other settings
4) Dragon Comp. Volume V : Fantasy Fiction
5) Dragon Comp. Volume VI: Monsters
6) Dragon Comp. Volume VIII: Cartoons
7) Dragon Comp. Volume IX: Art
8) Dragon Comp. Volume VII: Player's Handbook II
(DC:PHB II could have Races, Classes, PrC's, Feats, Skills, Sage Advice, etc)
any chance of this?

ahhh...i missed this "hint":
"That's why we're calling this edition the Dragon Compendium, Volume 1. Our expectation is that the book's sales will justify further volumes in the series, so that we might do a book aimed at planar or "Oriental Adventures" material, and we might even do compilations of material germane to the official campaign settings. For this first installment, however, we've decided to aim at a general audience, providing top-quality material that will be useful to all players and Dungeon Masters."

I don't know. What about a coffee table-style anthology with nice artwork rolled in. It wouldn't have to be world specific in fact as an over-arching "Best of" it should be filled with the most accessable stories with only a few winks and nods to the crowd that knows Elminster's girdle size and that Gary uses his friend's names for important places. Minutae is okay, but it's not a story.
