Erik Mona's hosting a D&D Movie-palooza tonight at his place for the editorial staff of Dragon and Dungeon. I can't wait!
Having seen a fair bit of clips from the movie, I can say (as someone who found the first one to be the worst movie of that year) that I'm actually looking forward to this. It's actually got D&D in there... it name drops several monsters and iconic locations (ever heard of the Barrier Peaks or Juiblex?) and there's actual monsters from the game doing things that the actual monsters do! No rock-chasing beholders, I hear. Oh, and there's pretty much no one from the first one involved with the creation of this one.
ANYway... should be a good time!

Well, I saw it last night, and I must say that it was better than the first one. Whereas the first one got a 2 out of 10 in my mind, this one got a 7 out of 10. There are more battle scenes, better graphics, a slightly better storyline, and slightly better characters.
I enjoyed it thoroughly better than the last one, and I await this one's DVD release!

My gaming group all got together last night to watch the movie. It was marginally better than the first one. The module references to the Ghost Tower of Inverness, etc. were pretty cool. The rogue laughing at the wizard getting her familiar zapped was the most "true to gaming" moment in the movie.
For a TV movie it wasn't bad, but I really hope they don't make any more.

Now, now....we all know that movies aren't perfect. Many a terrible movie has turned into a cult classic. Naturally the first movie wasn't the best....we all expected so much. How much can you contain in two hours anyway. The first movie was an easy introduction into how a possible first level adventure could be played. The DVD even lets you download the adventure in a PDF format to play.
The second movie was a little better with the special effects and Bruce Payne will always be Damedar (blue lips or not). And anyone who loves dragons knows you can't miss a chance to see one in action, even one whose breath weapon is not supposed to be fire!!
With budget and time constraints, bravo to SciFi Channel for making a valiant effort. Perhaps someday, we'll actually see a saga on the big screen with the money behind it that can give it its due.

The new movie's DVD also comes with an adventure that's related to (but not a direct copy of) the film's plot, written by members of the Dungeon and Dragon staff. : )

Really? Well, if it's written by the Paizo staff, odds are it's pretty good.
When I finally see this movie, it's gonna have to be a rental or a borrow. If it's good I'll buy it, if not. . . I'll gladly pay 4-5 bucks for a download via paizo.com when the D&D2 dust settles down.
Deal?

I was amused, but left feeling like more could have been done. The world was too 'clean', and the barbarian too civilized. On the other hand, it was an enjoyable two hours, and I didn't have to go to a theater to watch it.
Sci-fi has certainly shown a high number of far more horrible movies recently. If there is a third movie, maybe it will improve, as well.

You lost me. What do you mean by the world being too clean?

Its been over a month since the ads in both Dragon and Dungeon have stated that Wrath of the Dragon God will come out in DVD in Nov.8. Its now dec,i'm still waiting for my copy; was it a misprint?
I'd check on that with the company you ordered it from. It's been out since then. I bought a copy at the store on the 10th or 11th of that month.

it seems to me that no chain store is carrying it, like wal-mart or target
i have checked at a few hobby and gaming stores and they dont seem to be able to get copies either
They're not. Not even Borders or Virgin Megastore has it in stock at least not in N.Y.C. you'll have to order it direct from Warner Bros.

bleh, it was an OK movie at best and most go a 5 out of 10 or less in my book. Maybe for Sci-Fi channel it was good but as a movie I found it sorely lacking. Ironically the best parts for me were the commentary, as for my friends as well. They said that it was a pretty horrible movie in their eyes but the commentary rocked.

It has to be one of the worst movies in existence. I saw them both (much to my later regret) and the second one is marginally better than the first one but it still sucks. I didn't even finish the first one becuase it was so awful. They both had bad acting, terrible plots and a horrible mangling of D&D. Don't watch either of them. You'll probably end up regretting it for the rest of your lives if you do.
