Lolth, Drow Spider Queen

3.5/d20/OGL

In order to further my stories and history on the City of Luna {Dimeh}, (and in spirit of D&D DAY!!!), I need some help creating Lolth, Drow Spider Queen. You see, in my story, Lolth was "defeated" by Azurie "Luna" Nodel and her two companions in an epic battle to end the Drow War, but in reality (back story), Lolth was only believed to have been killed after plumeting from her balcony into the darkness of the Drow city below! After "hiding" for many years, she has returned to seek vengence upon the tratorous Drows who rebelled against her.
So in any case, I'm creating (much like in FF-VIII) a dream sequence in which the PC's take part AS Azurie "Luna", and her mighty templars. The only problem I have? THERE IS NO RECORDS OF LOLTH AS AN NPC ANYWHERE?!?!? (At least none to my knowledge. >.<)
If anything, please give me a few ideas on how to create the dreaded Spider Queen, and her vicious abilities.
NOTE: She has to have "Lolth's Poison" as a rare ability, making it near impossible for characters to heal infected party members. Cruel I know, but she is after all, a demi-god (or goddess...whatever.)
BLESSED BE!!!

Maybe that's because Lolth never was an NPC.

The book Deites and Demigods has her stats. Shes like a CR 50 I think...

There was also a lame book put out by WoTC Called: Queen of THe Demonweb Pits. This book had Lolth as an active character (Lame as it was) with a Lame group of adventures traveling into the Abyss and Killing her in her walking fortress. Bad writing! Great writing is the War of The Spider Queen series. It doesn't deal with Lolth alot, but it does deal with Lolth Drow and their awesomely evil, selfish, back stabing ways. (At the end of the book one of the Priestesses becomes the new Avatar of Lolth.) Great source for ideas.

I concur. I'm too cheap to buy the harback version of Resurrection, so I'm eagerly awaiting it coming out in paperback for the series to have some closure for me.

There was also a really cool adventure put out by TSR called Queen of the Demonweb Pits. It was written by Gary Gygax and it introduced Lolth to Dungeons and Dragons. It is first edition, so you will probably have to do quite a bit of conversion, but it does give a great deal of background into Lolth. It comes and goes on e-bay quite a bit, for anything from $5 to $30.

Ok....so, if Lolth, Drow Spider Queen HAS an NPC sheet (stats at least) in Dieties and Demigods, would anyone who owns the book have it??? Is so, could you post it? (I'll buy it when I get paid, but I need it sooner!!!! O.o; THANX FOR THE INPUT ADVENTURERS!!! Blessed Be!

lol...not to be confused with the MODULE Queen of the demonweb pits... Back then, Lolth was really more a major demon than a diety, and the adventure, though a bit weird, was fun (note that Gygax did not come up with the weird maze/spacecraft, it was purloined from a Gencon tourney module, so thats why there's a great deal of diff between what it was and what it might have been)...so many folk nowdays think drow originated in the Forgetful Realms...even going so far as to have Lloth and Lolth, or even Loth....

Lolth, I think, according to Gary Gygax, originally was created to be a little more than a challenge to players characters...thus 66 measly hit points, and a weak paltry array of spell-like powers. She wasn't meant to hang around as long as she has. It seems that Gygax already had another being...either Graz'zt or the Elder Elmemental God standing by to take Lolth's place as the new patron for the drow. In any case, in 1e, Lolth was simply a "minor divinity" who took advantage of the worship of the drow to sustain her power.

Lolth's first appearance is in D3: Vault of the Drow. Her stats appear again in Q1, Queen of the Demonweb Pits, where her intelligence has been raised from Genius to Godlike. It was around this time she also get the moniker of "lesser goddess". In 1e, demon princes are on the power levels of lesser deities and can grant spells like any other gods or goddesses. Her stats was reprinted in 1e Fiend Folio and slightly different in Deities and Demigods

Lolth became a full-fledge goddess during 2e in Monster Mythology. Thanks to R.A. Salvatore's novels on the over-exposed Driz'zt and Menzoberranzan, Lolth bascially became THE patron of the Dark elves, regardless of the events that might have transpired in Q1.

In 3e, Lolth's divine stats was raised even higher to that of a divine ranked 15 intermediate goddess. Given that in the miniature handbooks that archfiends and deities can create aspects of themselves which act independently of them, it can only be assume that the player characters fought against one of Lolth's aspects in Q1....thus it is assume that Lolth sent an aspect to each different world: Faeraun, Oerth, etc, to watch over her interest.

...wow...o.O". I never even dreamed it would go so far. So...what level and stats does Lolth have Currently?! THANX!!! B*B

Actually now that Toril (the Forgotten Realms) and Oerth have separate cosmologies, Lolth is not the same goddess in both planes, but a similar goddess that developed within both universes. In the Forgotten Realms, Lolth was originally Arushnee, elven goddess of Fate, who betrayed Corellon and was cast out of Arvandor. Corellon stripped her of her divinity, and she fell into the Abyss, becoming a demon of great power. Arushnee had two children, Vhearun and Elistraee. Vhaerun was ambitious, like his mother, and became an exile when she was cast out. He became the god of theives and intruige. Elistraee favored her father and left to limit the strife in the Seldarine , and was the goddess of the night and the hunt, seeking any dark elves that might want to return to the ways of the surface elves.

Eventually Lolth regained much of her power and became a goddess again, originally a lesser power, then an intermediate power. There are other dieties worshipped by drow, including Kiransalee, a drow goddess of undeath. Gaunadaur, the Elder Elemental God, was also worshipped by many drow. Vhearun schemed against his mother to influence male drow, the oppressed class in the dark elven world.

Eventually Lolth put a plan in place to shift her planar domain and to become more powerful. After going silent for nearly a year, Lolth picked a chosen and a Lady Penitant and was reborn as a Greater Goddess.

At any rate, this is her history in the Forgotten Realms. This is not the same Lolth that exists in Oerth. They are similar divinities, but each cosmology has its own unique powers now. If you want your PCs to kill off Lolth, that's great. But it won't affect Lolth in any other world.

You got it. Lolth is "just" a demon lord. Blame 2E with its rampant drow fetishizing for inflating her so goofily.

What is she in FR now? An intermediate god, or something? Not in any game I'd touch.

...Dont forget when Venger from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoons "used" Lloth to trick the kids into a trap. Venger took the magic weapons from the kids and told Lloth "Do with them as you will, Demon Queen."

Of course the kids escape! :)

I laugh every time I see that episode!

...Actually, that's not my intent at all. In my games, God and Goddesses ALWAYS win, unless "tricked" into some way of losing. As far as I know, you can't kill God, and there's a snowball's chance in all Nine Hells that Lolth is going down. She could only be thought to be killed, as I want it to be.

In my campaign, Azurie "Luna" Nodel, a Drow who (much like Elistraee) favored peace with the High Elves, rather than thr treacherous ways of the Drows in the Underdark. So, she had built a resistance, and eventually created her own city of Drows. Soon, other races saw these Drows as no threat, and joined into a sacred covenant. Eventually, Lolth began a war with the city, and news of Black dragons coming to aid Lolth (perhaps under some spell) began to make situations look grim for Azurie. So, in a final and desperate attempt, Azurie and a small group of her finest zealots went after Lolth, and managed to subdue her; by pushing her off her balcony and into the dark void below.
So, you see (if my story hasn't bored you yet -.-ZzZz), Lolth never dies, but merely looks it. This is the story I want the PC's to "dream" about and play! Kinda crappy, but I'll make it worthwhile to the PCs! {Derian sat-up in his bed, staring into the darkness of the room. Beside him, was but a lone item, Luna's sacred staff; glowing dimly under his cloak...}
^.^ Thanx again! B*B!!!

Dont laugh at me, I was 9 or 10 when I made my world but about 856,792 years ago Tiamat Lolth and Cthulu had a war over the prime material plane that lasted till the other gods came in which resulted in all gods bieng banned from walking the material plane unless there worshippers dominate over everyone else.
