Regional Feats for Cauldron?

I'm starting a new Shacked City campaign soon, and I'd like to use the Regional Feats from Dragon 315/319. My players want to know which of the regions would apply to Cauldron. I found no region in the list form Dragon 319 that especially fits the Hellfurnaces or the Amedio Jungle, and of course no region exists for the Cauldron/Sasserine country (does it even have a name?).

Has anyone of you used regional feats, and if yes, how have you handled Cauldron on this? Made up your own region? Put it into one of the existing ones? Or just used the racial regional feats?

Regards,
Stefan.

The Racial Regional feats would be the easiest to incorporate, but you shouldn't have too hard a time adapting a few other regional feats for the Amedio jungle, which is where Cauldron is set in Greyhawk. If you don't find any feats for that region in the magazine article, I'd suggest looking at the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide and examine the regional feats for areas like Chult, Lake of Steam, etc. They should give you some pretty suitable options.

You could use the Sea Princes region for PCs from Cauldron or it's environs.

Now I have a question regarding the use of these feats:

When (if) people use these feats, do you let your players select a feat from the appropriate list as a "free" feat, or do you let your players select from the appropriate list *in place of* the standard first level feat that all PCs receive?

I am considering assigning a regional or human sub-racial feat to each character based on the background story they provide me at the start of the campaign. Does this seem reasonable?

Thanks!

If you go by the rules as written (originally in the FR Campaing Setting, revised in Player's Guide to Faerûn), regional Feats have to be paid for like every other feat, too.

No, I'd think that is ok.
