Age of Worms: Greyhawk Campaign Setting

Age of Worms Adventure Path

In Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins it states that Zagig was instrumental in the founding of Diamond Lake, but no dates are given as to the actual establishment of the settlement. Does anybody have any dates in mind? I would imagine it would be anywhere from 320-360 CY??

James or Erik, were you guys going to have the Wind Dukes Cairns and the Star Cairns to be one and the same?

There are a LOT of Cairns in the hills. The Star Cairns are much farther south and aren't connected to the Wind Duke cairns. In theory.

According to "The Star Cairns" (TSR 9579, 1998), page 2 (Introduction), the Star Cairns were built as research sites by some Suloise mages and abandoned after c. 200 CY. If you take that as given, there is no connection to the Wind Dukes. The battle between the Wind Dukes and their enemies occurred several thousand years past, IIRC.

Thanks Stefan... Are "The Star Cairns" and the 2 advens that follow it (The Lich and Doomgrinder) any good?

What month did everybody in the Greyhawk setting begin their campaign in?
During the Readying?
I found it odd that G:TAB suggested you start a campaign right at the beginning of a new year... in Fireseek? Although it could be done, you could just have light snowfall for that year. Heck the advens are hard enough without the PCs worrying about frostbite!

I started at the begining of the year and had a blast with snow based movement.

I've decided that the campaign started in Fireseek. We've already played a session, having a week of "game time" pass. Unfortunately, I was still vacillating on what campaign setting I'd use. I'm making it colder this week, the PCs are going to have to spend what little treasure they have on some cold weather outfits.

I went with Readying, because I saw in one of the campaign Journals, Erik's group started then. Not having any clear guidance, I just figured if any modules relate to the weather, it's best to stay in line with them since I figured they know more.

I made a handy excel calander (which I stole all the data for from multiple internet sources, canonfire primarily) and figured I would track everything on there (including holidays, and disease incubation :)

If anyone wants a copy, I'm keeping it on my website (along with my tokens, and hyper links to valueable message board articles.)

I'm keeping it a "tame" winter so far as far as snowfall goes. There's been one light snowfall. Most of the party is now in the Cairn Hills, heading towards Elmshire, they took the bait from a note found on a corpse (actually a former Ebon Triad cultist) within an ettercap lair. The note described a meeting place with a goblin outside of Elmshire. The PCs are killing time with sidequests until Allustan gets the book "Chronicles of Chan" from the Greyhawk library. So far the PCs have completed the Lair of the Architect and most have reached 2nd level. It's now Fireseek the 11th. By the time the PCs get back to Diamond Lake, Fireseek should be winding down. Then, once Readying begins, there's going to be heavy rains.

I started in Reaping. I picked the closest month and day that the campaign began.

Which is close to Erik Mona's campaign start. He started during Richfest, I believe.

Peace and smiles :)

Greyhawk's climate is pretty mild, so I wouldn't worry too much about snowfall :D

Liberty's Edge

An uncharacteristically cold winter with heavy snow fall makes for a great mood for the campaign to start with. What do complete strangers generally talk about to break the ice? The weather. When the weather is abnormal, what do close friends talk about? The weather.

I've started on the 28th of Fireseek with six inches of snow on the ground, a nice thaw during the day to make the roads muddy, and a cold night to get everything frozen and hazardous for footing. Diamond Lake is abuzz about the weather wondering what it all means. Is Iuz up to no good? Are the Shari freezing out the Domain in prelude to an invasion? Or is it just the beginning of the Age of Worms... Weather is the DM's uber-NPC, play it up for your full benefit to make the game as edgy as you want.

I started just after Richfest.
