Playing cRPG as GM Prep?

Kingmaker Second Edition

Hello! I'm very excited to run Kingmaker 2e for my friends in a few months and I'm prepping as much as I can. I'm 95% done reading the book and I have the companion guide, along with a bunch of recommendations from this forum.

I'm tempted to grab the cRPG and play through that to learn the story a bit better and understand the game better, but I'm worried the 3.5 based mechanics will throw me off too much, since I've only been playing PF2e for a few months.

How helpful would it be to play the cRPG before I run the game? What are some things you wish you had done before running your first session?

Thank you all in advance!

Other than giving you some ideas for bonus encounters and a little bit of the personalities of the NPCs in the companion guide, it's probably not going to be as helpful as knowing the book.

Ultimately your players are going to make choices that veer off the paths provided by the safe bounds of a cRPG, and its better to be open to the story and world you create in tandem than get stuck in "how it happened in the videogame".

Anyway, if you're looking for some additional material for your game, the best place to prep that is here on the forums (feel free to click my profile for links to my own expansions :))

Thank you! I think I'll want to make the NPCs my own anyway. Nothing much to be gained from playing the cRPG in terms of GM prep then. I'll keep lurking around the forums then. I appreciate the input.
