Hello,
As I have said in other threads, I love your new website and the boards are a great addition to things.
I have been spoiled at other boards out there, however, and I was wondering if there is a chance of addtional functions being added to the boards?
Avatars?
Location Indicators?
Search Function?
I know that you guys are hard at work at dozens of things (or more), and I am not expecting anything overnight. Just wondering if anything else is planned.
Thanks,
Cheers :-)

Avatar images are coming "soon" (no promises as to when, but we want 'em too).
Location indicators. Hmm. I'll add that to the list of maybe-possibilities-that-we-might-do-if-enough-people-request. As you can probably tell, we're trying for a somewhat cleaner, more minimalist design approach than most messageboards.
Search we have. Try the search box at the top-left of the page, or to search just a particular forum, use the search box on the right side of the forum's page.

one more adition: I entered a subject on a new thread, but it turned up blank. Is it possible to automatically check the subject before the message is posted.
also, notice dyou can't edit the first post, but editing the second one is no problem. Is this a bug or a feature :-)??
These are bugs.... and as PostMonster General, it's my job to squash them!
But probably not before Monday. :-)

Thanks again for the feedback on everything. You guys certainly do try to keep on top of everything. :-)
Like I said in my first post, I am not trying to overwork you guys (well, maybe a little).
For location indicator I am just thinking something along the lines of New York, New York, or even just the posters' country.
Cheers :-)

I forgot to address the "Search" point. Yeah, I located it after posting that post. I guess I am used to seeing it on every page/thread on other forums.
Actually the search box on the upper left of nearly every page will search the entire site, messageboards and all.
On the search results page, you'll see a line that says something like "10 products, 3 pages, 12 threads, 18 posts". Just click on the "12 threads" to jump straight to the messageboard results.
(Of course, we prefer if you scroll sloooooowly past the products, pausing to add a few to your shopping cart, before moving on to the messageboards! :-)

Testing multiple uses of non-nestable tags.
Yea! It works now. The editors will be happy!
Now I'm testing the fix for the bug that prevents one from submitting a post if it takes longer than 5 minutes to compose.
It works!

Everyone may now edit their posts for one hour after being submitted.

Testing nested quoting... It works!
He's dead, Jim.
Testing sequential quoting... It works!

One thing I'd really like to see is on the main messageboards page, where it shows in what thread the last message was posted (and the date/time), it would be really great if it also showed who posted (or at least if there are any new posts). This would save me from trying to remember how long ago I posted and in what thread when skimming the forums for new posts. :)
Also if that sentence did not make any sense, blame the NyQuil. 0:-)

We want better access to recent unread messages and threads, too. I have a couple ideas about how to do it, but can't say when it'll be available.

more idea's:
*) Sig's (mine would be "don't forget to eat your greens")
*) info on the posters (such as location; number of posts; date of registration etc.)
*) emoticons
Also, I'm having trouble linking to specific threads. For example, If I link to this thread, I end up on Paizo's main page.

Sigs are something we probably won't do, or at least not unless dragged into it kicking and screaming. :-) I think they tend to detract from the flow of conversation on a page. (Especially when someone participates multiple times in a single thread.)
I would like to include a bit more information on the poster, though we need to figure out a good way to do it without cluttering up the boards too much.
As for smilies, well... I dunno. Those little yellow happyface things bug me. Too dang cheery or something. :-) But maybe we can come up with a cool alternative more appropriate to the Paizo way of doing things.

Yes, Mike McArtor discovered that bug yesterday. It has to do with some code which is intended to prevent page-widening. We're going to try to fix that soon.

I think we need to have long threads divide into pages too. It took me forever to find where I'd left off reading on the "New/Refitted Dragon First Impressions" thread (78 posts!).
This is an example of a feature which I originally resisted, but seeing how long some of our threads are getting, I think we'll probably go ahead and implement.
We suck less every day! :-)

I'm pretty much of one mind with Gary on these suggestions. If we do eventually allow sigs, they will be quite limited in length. Not much longer than the one you're hoping for. Sigs tend to detract from the flow of the actual content.
*) info on the posters (such as location; number of posts; date of registration etc.)
We're trying to avoid the temptation to display a bunch of data just because we have it. We'll add them cautiously as demand requires. Number of posts is problematic because people begin to pollute the boards just to make it to their next self-appointed milestone. (100, 1000...)
Location I can imagine adding. We'll think on it.
*) emoticons
Voila! : )
It's unlikely we'll add image emoticons. Feel free to get creative with the text. 8 ]Having mercilessly stomped all over your generous suggestions : ), I want to say please keep the suggestions for improvement coming. It's your feedback that will guide us into the future.
And BTW, I love your avatar name, Slaad.

Dude, that's awesome. I am going to stick a note saying "I suck less every day" over my computer as an affirmation! :-D
Yeah. At a young company like Paizo, it really helps to have a sense of humor. "We suck less every day!" has been our mantra in the Web and Customer Service departments for like a year. It's humble *and* affirming!

Throw my hat in the "I agree with Gary" bin. I dislike wide-open sigs that can be as long as half my screen, and are often much longer than the actual poster's post. Grr! >:(

That's cool. That sort of thing creates the false idea that those who post most must have the most authority or the best opinions. That idea, frankly, is full of lame. ;)

Yay for old school emoticons! :D If you want to express something, show us your 1337 emoticon skilz. o->-<|:
(I really got to stop trying to write like I'm hip with the newest lingo.) :\

After licking my wounds for a couple of months I'm back! with more sugestions.
How about a next and previous thread button? that way I can read up on all the new posts without having to go back to the forum page. I might even save some bandwidth (maybe).
Proceed stomping ;)
