Here is a (mostly complete) version of Verinthal: Wall of Text: Verinthal Description: A swarthy tanned human with decorative carved bone details tied to his leather armour. He wears a dark cloth over his head, tied in a nomadic fashion, with it draping loose enough around his face to keep him cool and to be pulled up over his mouth and nose should he need to keep from inhaling dry sands or keep his identity hidden. Male Human Ninja 1
Born among the rich and powerful, Verinthal has seen personally how the Templars of the Sorcerer Kings treat the common people, and he was not pleased. One particular event resulted in the death of his older sister, and this set him on a stealthy course of revenge. It was from that moment that he began to train diligently in the use of both poisons and the art of the katana. He also swore an oath of vengeance against the templar that killed his sister. One day, he will repay the deed. Verinthal escaped the eyes of his remaining sister, who still enjoyed her family's heritage in their small mansion. He took to the desert but remained opposed to the Sorcerer Kings or at least to the Templars who acted tyrannically. He found his way into the contacts of the Veiled Alliance, and devoted a great deal of his free time to helping smuggle arcane components and spellbooks for those wizards who attempted to defy the established order. Today, Verinthal spends most of his time hiding in the shadows of the underworld, trying to remain available as an agent for the few times that the Veiled Alliance can ask for his aid, and trains with blade and shadow for the fated moment.
Some questions: The guide offers information about things like the Distillation Kit in the Athasian Items section, but I can't find any price for quite a few things from that section. Also, would poison be any more or less available due to it being more readily created? Since I can't afford an Alchemist Lab at the moment to make my own, I will have to purchase it. In the guide, the Bard is the one most affiliated with poisons, though it does mention them in reference to Ninjas. If it helps, I have taken the Veiled Alliance Contact trait. So it's possible that one of my other contacts has access to some poisons.
You might consider using Idonis from Arcana Evolved for the god of beauty and art. "Truth, beauty, and love. These are the prime aspects of Idonis' worship. This androgynous deity has both a male and a female aspect and is called both 'him' and 'her'. Statues of Idonis depict a beautiful human of indeterminate gender with a book in one hand and a zither in the other. His/her worshippers fill their temples with music, poetry, and acts of love. The temples themselves are always round structures and usually brim with statues and flowers, thick carpets, and lavish tapestries.
Since I have been away from the boards for a while and I'm not entirely certain what a Dark Sun campaign feels like, I might go for a human barbarian or something melee-focused. In the past I played sorcerers of every bloodline I could find (including 3rd party), but I am not sure how magic works in this campaign.
In Arcana Evolved (also by Monte Cook) they have different stats: +2 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom
The racial levels and evolved levels for the Litorian granted additional Strength, Dexterity, +10 speed, the Scent ability, and eventually bite and claw attacks. I would be quite happy to play a Catfolk with a "mane", though, as I feel like it is more balanced with the other Pathfinder rules.

Hmmm, and I was just getting used to the idea of a Catfolk Cad. Okay, fair enough. Other than the ability modifiers, can I use Catfolk racial abilities, or are you working something else out.
EltonJ wrote:
Oh, duh. I can just use Catfolk from the Advanced Race Guide. The mane is a cosmetic feature. If that's okay with you.
I pledged at the $100 level. First time pledging in a Kickstarter. Like Valandur I really do hope the kingdom building elements are as fun as they seem they will be. Plus, I actually was a fan of the open methodology of EVE Online. My characters felt very open-ended in that RPG and if they ever made it free to play, I would probably go back in a heartbeat. I have tried a few Sandbox fantasy mmo games, but I think I really need a hybrid first. Sometimes having too many options open is baffling. All in all. It seems like a great game, and I'm looking forward to every aspect of it.
"It will be about two days travel by walking. Through dangerous territories. Then again, practically anything outside the Citadel is dangerous. I will have a map." "But for now, I think it is best if you enjoy the time you have in the Citadel. We must prepare for tonight." She turns to Gerinelle. "Prepare the ritual chamber for a Window. We will see what knowledge can be imparted tonight." Gerinelle bows her head and turns away in a swirl of green and ivory.
I took my mother to see John Carter today. She loved it, saw tons of social commentary in it that I missed the first time (of course I watched it in 3D and 3D glasses give me a headache, so that might have contributed to my not seeing what she saw). I told her that Disney did next to no merchandising for the film, and she was sad cause she wanted a stuffed martian dog thing. (Cabot, I think is the species? Woolak is the character?) She also wants to see the Therns get what's coming to them.
Kimefe:
Kn. Arcana: Alabaster is known for its protective and healing magic qualities, and is believed by many who practice the arts to be the fossilized remains of unicorns. "That you shall have, my dear. Your mind is troubled, I see. I am surprised you have not experienced the danger of magic before, for you seem to be one empowered in the old arts."
Sorad, Kimefe, you still out there? Was waiting for you to post something, or post that you are waiting. Sister Juliatan raises her eyebrows, and begins to laugh a little. "Oh yes, we know of them. They are a part of the fabric of magic, now. It has been torn asunder since the Rising of the Dark Tower, and no one can escape them who performs magic. Sometimes they even break through, for a time. But then they just want to break out again. It seems like they are just attracted to the energy of the veil itself." "But you want to know the past. That is something that can be arranged,... for a price. Directly to the south, near a great silver lake, is an ancient lighthouse. I need something from that lighthouse, and if you agree to recover it, I can let you all know about what has transpired these last few thousands of years."

Sissyl wrote: I liked Tangled. Then again, I am not a hardcore MtG player... :-) I don't understand what the one has to do with the other, actually. I like Tangled also. It's a pretty faithful rendition of Rapunzel, and includes the Romanian culture elegantly, as most of Disney's Romantic Fairy Tales feature a particular national culture.
Ah, thank you. At least that's a reasonable response, and not watering an argument seed. While I can see that JC's character is different from the book's, I still felt that Taylor's JC had its own motivations that were clearly explained by the film (and could be added to in sequel films). I think its a little unfair to say that all John wanted was his gold. He had been significantly hurt by the violent death of his wife and child. And that was a driving factor for a lot of his actions (and inactions). It may not have been the same JC as the book, but it was a trope that worked, and worked well in the limited time that a film has to develop the background of its character(s). (roughly 20 minutes)
Hmmm, I am debating writing an essay-length rant in response to that. The comparison of Taylor Kitsch to Ashton Kutcher is a huge disservice to Taylor Kitsch. There is more acting talent and genuine compassion for the career in Taylor's pinky than there is in Ashton Kutcher's whole body. And I would recommend several of Taylor's autobiographical essays to anyone considering going into the profession of acting (or he posts several anecdotes and inspirations for the acting craft on his facebook fan page as well.) In either case, I must say I disagree with that particular reviewer and believe that Taylor's insights into the character of John Carter are more revealing of John's actions and behaviors (particularly toward the princess) than those portrayed in the review you just quoted.
IceniQueen wrote:
Taylor was born in 81, so that makes him 31. :) He's 6', so thats pretty close to 6'2". Maybe still noticeably different. As for the accent, I think he did well enough. A lot of movies these days steer away from accents because people won't understand them. Physically fit but not muscle bound? There are more muscular actors out there than Taylor, but Taylor's been playing hockey regularly since he was 3. So I think that fits too. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what it is that you wanted that Taylor didn't deliver on. I was looking at Marvel's graphic novel version of JCM earlier today, and that John was so overly muscled, I found Taylor's portrayal much more appealing and approachable as John Carter.

How interesting. I love Fifth Element. One of the funnest movies I've ever seen (to this date). Great soundtrack too. But Starship Troopers only had a few redeemable qualities for me. :(
I wouldn't call Taylor Hitsch a nobody. But that's just me. And there are tons of films starring actors I had never heard of before that had sequels. SciFi's miniseries Frank Herbert's Dune starred someone I still don't remember the name of, but he played a forceful character. The first 20 minutes or so of John Carter proved that the character was a forceful one.
Sister Juliatan arrives in stately fashion a few moments later, her robes drape about her with the elegance of a Queen, and with the deference that others give her, it may be that she is treated as one. The whites of her eyes and the lunar crescent on her forehead gleam brightly. "Well, what is it you wish to know?"
Bill Dunn wrote: What I wonder is who the hell releases a blockbuster in March? It may not be doing well compared to the $250 million to make it and $100 million to market it, but it still is the 22nd biggest opener in March. There aren't that many breakout hits in March unless they're highly anticipated. And, frankly, I was a bit incredulous at Disney making John Carter in the first place. It really didn't seem the type of film for them. Neither did Prince of Arabia: The Sands of Time, but they did that one too. I think they might have used some of the same music from that movie in John Carter, though. Or at least the same composer.
"Regretfully, I cannot join you there. It is a Temple to their White Tree. These Sisters." He looks carefully at Gerinelle as though he were afraid she would say something. "Seek me out in the ruins of the Temple of the Arcane Collective, if you would call on me again." The man points to a distant corner with his staff, where a lone building stands, mostly covered with moss and overgrown with plant life. The domed roof is broken in several places, where branches thrust through it. "Enjoy the Verdune Helibris. I shall come again on another day when I can fulfill my obligations in secret." With that, he turns towards the dilapidated building, nestled and almost hidden in the shade of the trees nearby.
I think its possible to have an Artisan class archetype for the Expert, maybe a Soldier archetype for the Warrior, Commoner could have several archetypes (based on location), so Urban Commoner, Rural Commoner, Forest Commoner, Mountain Commoner, Swamp Commoner could all be possible. Just switch out various class skills (or replace class skills with class abilities). The Aristocrat could also have archetypes based on location. City Noble, Country Noble (for example), or perhaps based on style of dress (Fop, Dandy). There are tons of archetype ideas there. I may just make a few myself. The Adept could switch out familiar for all types of things, and I may transform my Sage NPC class to an archetype, since most people thought the Sage was too powerful to be an NPC, but not well rounded enough to be a PC class.
In Game of Thrones, you only get a large number of hitpoints at 1st level. (maximum for your class, I'd guess), then 1, 2, or 3 hitpoints at each additional level (depending on class, again) (with Constitution modifiers). So a 3rd level fighter, for example, would have 16 hitpoints base. However, in Game of Thrones d20, armor provides damage resistance, so that might make all the difference. With each damaging strike, if damage inflicted equals or exceeds target's Shock Value, the victim must make a Fort save DC 12 +1 per point of damage over Shock Value. If failed, the character is incapacitated (basically out of combat.) So a bloody strike to a neck, arm, leg or anything else that inflicts enough damage would take one out of the combat, without necessarily killing one. Shock Value = Constitution Score / 2. If a character suffers an amount of damage greater than Shock Value, the character may be incapacitated. If the attack penetrates the skin, the Shock Value represents damage necessary to inflict a serious injury (basically causes bleed 1). A character is incapacitated (either knocked unconscious, severely wounded, stunned by pain) for a number of rounds equal to the amount by which the Shock save failed. Duration of incapacitation from several failed Shock Saves is cumulative.
Sethryn looks at those gathered near the tree. "The power of the Verdune Helibris is most powerful in direct sunlight. So, the mornings are best to experience its power. You, my dear, look like you are burning in this light." The last was said to Gerinelle. If you look to see for yourself, her skin has indeed turned red in places, and she looks to be in some pain. "Might I recommend that you retire to the Jade Palace? Perhaps you will find someone there who can answer your questions better than I."
Starfire is similar to (and less powerful than) the Arcane Bomber archetype for the wizard. Thats actually where I came up with the idea, matched with the Erathian Sorceress flavor (from HOMM II), to create the Astrologer archetype. So I'm not sure how "give me what I want" it is, but each of the archetypes I've created so far fills a particular niche that my homebrew campaign needed filled. I will probably have something similar to the Draconic Ascendant, except with an undead companion, as well, but I'm not sure what to call it yet.
