the ritualist seems like a must for raising undead "children".

Also, a side quest to become the parent of attic whisperer(s) would go well with this concept as well.

I took ancient elf ancestry when I did something like this. Kind of blurred the family life details as my character was 20 years out of Five Kings Mountain when we started. But ended up apprenticing to two or three different crafts, and then left the mountains for good to find more interesting occupations.

The new errata has me thinking about the way alchemical items are statted. I wonder if balance would be easier to achieve by having two stat lines for each item. one lesser stat line for everyone, and a better stat line for characters with an advanced alchemy level equal to or greater than the item level. This way the price can be low enough for non alchemist to purchase a few for contingency purposes, while not unbalancing encounters by using the lesser stat line of the items.

I believe in our run through, we refused to fight owlbear, and loudly stated that we liked and respected him. He is now a shock trooper on one of the other ships in the fleet.

I would say to remember the many differences between a novel and an adventure, as most of the rest is already covered. Understand that the players will find a way forward that you never anticipated, an the adventure should be flexible enough to adapt.

for kingmaker, i added a home brewed " fey enhanced" template for random encounters and had every possible enemy humanoid go on and on about worshipping a mysterious lady. there is too little foreshadowing in the books themselves.

other than that, it was a blast for my entire group. plenty of room for me to replace and tweek the npcs fo long term roleplaying.

Your characters in the AP start off shanghaid onto the ship. You could be any kind of traveler who has fallen into the pirate life.

My character is a semi exiled teifling nobleman from Cheliax. he is an alchemist and part of his confiscated black surgical bag is a degree in both alchemy and medicine from Egorian University. He has become an enthusiastic pirate after the mutiny on the man's promise. He is both the ship's surgeon and master of munitions.

I base his personality heavily on House MD.

I am concerned that the construct rider archetype and especially the spell knowledge discovery were made with excessively harsh costs. I have a hard time seeing the construct rider justifying the loss of three class features and reduced extract use.

Also alchemists already have a reduced number and level of slots so the harsh conditions on using spell knowledge seem a bit excessive. Is the alchemist really going to obsolesce the wizard with more reasonable spell access???

The flavor of both is really great and in some ways overdue, but i think the costs used were too high due to an unnecessary concern on game balance and niche protection.

Another thing, I have seen maybe one evil character cause problems in a party, and many, many paladins do their best to ruin everyone else's fun. sometimes even in all good aligned parties.

My opinion is that it is the lawful good characters that cause more problems and disruptions.

I think that long term malnutrition would require regeneration to rebuild the lost potential. But any genetic level issues would not be changed. And regaining the loss would require exercise and proper nutrition for some time afterwords. For game purposes, however long fits the story.

I feel that the DM may ban whatever elements do not work for that DM as long as the DM is up front about the bans. I personally have banned paladins, anti--paladins and inquisitors. I have no need for endless philosophical debates about is x a reason to fall or not. I also got tired of explaining that paladins and inquisitors canot just decide to arrest people and being special to thier church does not in any way mean the authorities will automatically trust them...

It is all a matter of taste.

Back in 2nd Edition days, the gm had equiped a giant or ogre with a magic shield a few sessions back. The shield burst into flames on the front facing when the leather cover was removed. Ignored this item until the party got stuck in a cave due to a snowfall in a huge, cold mountain range. So we used the shield to melt an escape tunnel. Later, we got bored. We removed the leather cover and used this big shield as a supersled to get down from the mountains. Alot of fun with a magic item the DM though was completely useless.

For hive-queens, you could try succubi who are hell wasp hosts who are in control of themselves and the hive. Could be a strange and interesting encounter.

19. The paladin will not attempt to arrest members of the party or demand that the party as a whole donate funds to the paladins church.

on 16a I agree that all charactors should make sure their charactor is not designed to ruin other people's fun, not just evil ones. I have had a large number of times people agressively decide to play a druid so no one else can play a necromancer, someone decides to be a paladin just to boss around the rest of the party, ect. To limit this idea to just evil character seems short sighted by my experiences.

A fun way to disguise a BBEG for the long term is to have rival bad guys he is more thatn motivated to help the party defeat.

I have an old idea I have not been able to use, a power struggle between two evils. There is a lost druidic place of power within the capital city of the kingdom.

The neutral evil druid of Rovagug wants to find the place of power and use it to unleash the strong to literaly devour the weak and weaken the advance of civilization in the process.

The necromancer wants to consume the potent life energies the place of power to unleash an undead plague and take power where he can grab any research subject he wants at any time.

The BBEG helps the party destroy these two and any other potential rivals for early through mid campaign, and the end iw where the reveal takes place.

You could adapt a one hit die permanent animated object for the hand.

I would suggest that as the pc's get higher level, the BBEG acquire succubus minions that are disguised as bodyguards needed due to the danger of opposing the "evil ruler". Then plan B is that the BBEG convinces the party that the succubi had involuntarily bound him( fun reversal) and thanks the party generously for " freeing him"

Make the gladiator a full orc. And have a clever multi-weapon attachment the fastens onto his stump. Place some nasty hidden weapons in the attachment that were forged by the orc himself. No one expects a clever orc hehe.

A secret the high dwarven clans are unlikely to tell outsiders is that some mines are valuable not for thier raw ores, but for thier affinity with the plane of earth. Deep within these mines, affinity portals to the earth plane are used to mine the rare minirals that dwarven clans are famed for far and wide. A young elemental swa a pack of strange fleshly creatures taking boring rocks with a great deal of avarice back to thier home. after watching this entertainment for some time , the yound elemental decided to follow the fleshy things to thier home for fun. the young elemental came to where he could see this strange thing the fleshies called "sky". convinced that this was just one of the famed large vault caverns, the young elemantal wandered for an uncounted time, until finding the cave he arrived in became quite impossible. then he was convinced to join with som other flesh creatures as they promised exciting adventures to dull his boredom and lonelyness.

Throg: An ogre who was origionaly and encounter added soley to foreshadow the alternative to Pitax as I am running Kingmaker in my own campaign rather than Golarion. He was convinced with diplomacy and good playing to accompany the party instead. i have added two levels of alchemist in between book 2 and 3. He is also the owner of a successful brewhouse/fairly exclusive restaurant.

Sir Balekist Blakemoore: origionally a one shot ambusher to raise curiosity in the dwarven npc i replaced the crazy alchemist hermit with. He is the brother to a human alchemist who was badly harmed when their father sent in thugs to destroy the dwarf's old lab in a large city state in my campaign called Xyr. He was introduced trying to prevent a vital shipment from arriving to the dwarf in the stolen lands. He ended up sacrificing much of his life and limb to restore his sister's life. he is currently in the background but will be coming into the foreground by the end of book 3

Dalgrund Fireaxe: a dwarven machinesmith(Neoexidus) who replaced the crazy hermit as a source of quests because the hermit just did not appeal to me. While his labrotory would have occasional explosions, these were purely accidents and he is actually very meticulous in his methods. He restore his wife using unconventional methods as the accident at his ruined labe rendered her unable to use conventional healing magics. She was in a form of status until mid book 2. He is not the mayor of the city of Industry, mostly labeled Dwarfton th the mayor's disgust.

Lilly Blakemoore-Fireaxe: An alchemist who apprentices with a low status dwarf as an act of rebellion and ended up married. Her father the Count Blakemoore sent several thugs to kill the dwarf. They started by destroying equipment that might be used against them, not noticing the count's daughter in the middle of an experiment. the explosion exposed her to chaotic magical energies rendering standard magics incapable of healing her. after dispatching the thugs, Dalgrund put her in a stasis chamber and moved near Oleg's trading post for the isolation and privacy. Lilly is a mad scientist style bomber alchemist, although i have not pointed this out yet.

I would like to see more crazy mechanical weapons rather a complete focus on fireams to define the steampunk setting. things like crossbows using springs and multiple barrels, or advanced gearing, springs, cables, ect for a crossbow with greater kinetic force(damage). these are usually missing in steampunk games at least the d20 variety.

if you do include magi-tech, weapons and devices that blend the two in more logical ways such as magical energy compressing springs, fire magic boilers, ect.

rules for frankenstienian creature modifications as a PC would really be nice. flesh grafting, clockwork implants, ect.

and I never play a mad scientist type charactor at all ;)

Bruiser Z has not participated in any online campaigns.
