I saw the cymbals a few times and always upvoted them. The mechanics kept it from my favorites, but I did like them. I've had bards that would happily take advantage of a modified version.

Thanks, Belladonna, and grats on making the top 32! I've only been playing since April, so yeah, my mechanics are all wonky. Hopefully next year I'll have a better grasp on the rules language and customs.

BTW, since everything is community voting now, do they allow you to modify an item and resubmit it the following year? (Judges or Powers that be?)

Thank you for the review, and I'm excited that you gave it a B-. I'm glad you liked the concept, even if language-wise I wasn't completely in line with rules terms. I wrote the item after I'd only been playing for 3 months, and never got a chance to polish it after GMing all summer.

Grats on making it to the top 100!

The Good: The alliteration doesn't bother me here, I like its an instrument that takes up a slot, its formatted correctly and the language is clear.
The Bad: boring skill bonus.
The Ugly: So you stun your friends too which is a fairly large issue. Its unclear if the wearer is also stunned. Bonus to rolling a 20 should have been cut.
Overall: 3- middling....

Thank you, I'm glad you liked the general idea. I agree I went a bit to far, I was trying to make use of my word count. I'll find a different way next year, lol. I've definitely got room for improvement, especially since I'll have more than a few months of RPG experience under my belt next year.

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the RPG circuit (started playing Pathfinder in April, no prior experience), and this is my first time entering any kind of real writing contest (i.e. one where I care about the prize). Anyway, I didn't even make the top 100, but I did make the cull. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Clarion Cymbals
Aura mild evocation CL 3rd
Slot wrists Price 3,500 gp Weight
Description
These golden dancer’s bracelets are adorned with small cymbals that rest on the inner wrist; when tapped together they produce a clear chime that can be heard from a great distance. Under normal circumstances they perform as a masterwork percussion instrument, providing a +2 bonus on perform (percussion) checks.

When struck together during the surprise round of combat, they unleash a sonic burst that startles enemies, stunning all unaware creatures within a 30-foot radius of the wearer for 1d4 rounds. A successful Fortitude save (DC 16) reduces this to 1 round. Creatures that are deaf are unaffected. This item does not function if it is within the area of effect of a spell of silence. If the wearer makes a perform (percussion) check to activate the item, a successful DC 20 perform check will add half the user’s charisma bonus (including temporary modifiers) to the save DC. If a natural 20 is rolled on the dice, half the user’s charisma bonus is added to the duration of the stun regardless of whether affected creatures save or not.

The effect of the next stun can be increased by placing it in a box with a stunstone overnight, which drains all of the magic out of the stunstone. On the first surprise round following this charging, the duration of the stun effect doubles.
Construction Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Craft (instrument) 3 ranks, sound burst; Cost 1,750 gp

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to let me know if they saw/liked my item, even if they saw major flaws with it... I guess I'm kind of asking for an early review, but in a sense I'm just trying to get a feel for if anyone (other then my BF) even liked my item and whether there's even a chance the judges are looking at it.

If someone PMs me, I will tell them the item name, and hope for some kind of response. I would appreciate anyone willing to do this for me.

I found the list helpful, as I'd had a perfect monster created from months ago... and it decidedly does NOT work in an urban environment. It was the right CR (well, kind of), and very cool and creepy, but very much not urban-izable. (CE small aberration that eats people... don't think it would work in an urban environment, or rather, the urban environment wouldn't last very long, lol)

So I had to start completely from scratch, and had some ideas running around. The list gave me stuff to look into, which led to me actually formulating an idea. Basically: it got me looking at creature types I wouldn't have before.

So, long winded way of saying: thanks for the inspiration. I'll share my monster after the 32 are announced, just on the very minute chance I might actually make it...

I didn't make a favorites list (something about voting at odd times, one pair at a time, on multiple computers between home and school), as it was I barely made star voter. Still, I'd love to see top favorite lists, see if my item shows up, or some of the items that I'll go, yeah, I remember that item!

As it was, I didn't see that much variety, I only voted a few times, and kept seeing certain items over and over again. I never did see my item post-cull, but my BF saw it the night before voting closed. Anyway, if you have a little charity, PM me your list. Next year I'll definitely keep one!

Quick question, I noticed that the rules state we cannot discuss the specifics of our items while voting is open. Does that mean we can discuss them once voting closes, but before the final 32 are released? I doubt I'll make final 32, but would love feedback on my item before next week. If the feedback is really awesome, I might actually start working on a monster that actually fits the requirements.

I have a monster already written, but it doesn't meet the urban requirements for this year. Anyway, I would love a response to whether I can post my item for critiques this afternoon, or just have to sit on my hands to avoid bloody stumps for finger tips for another week.

Just saw a pretty awesome item on my BF's voting screen. It hasn't shown up for me, but I'd definitely vote for it... of course it's mine, but I still think it's pretty unique compared to everything else.

Anyway, I've seen some really awesome items that I might actually vote for over my own. Gratz to everyone who has written awesome items this year.

Yes, I'm talking about YOUR item, whoever you are. :P

Wait...so what does it mean if the date by your item is recent or earlier?
The dates I put up in the right column is the most recent date I've seen the item.

Yay, someone saw my item yesterday... now if only I could see it before voting ends...

And, OT, I really need to get an avatar, huh?

Sczarni Star Voter Season 7

Well, before the revelation that some items on this list are from pre-cull, I was pretty happy. I have yet to see my own item (and my BF has also not it)... And I've trolled the rambles and praises pages, and found nothing that I could link to my item (other than lots of rambles about really terrible items).

I've been voting since the beginning, seen a few items that I absolutely hate over a dozen times each, and still have not seen my item. Either it isn't there, or I'm just very unlucky...

OK, thanks for your time! *somewhat disappointed*

So I'm thinking about what I could create if I do Next RPG Superstar, and a thought that occurred to me (although I've already decided against it) is a staff that transforms into a snake. Now, I quickly found out that that has already been done (so I won't be doing it), but it did raise a question for me: does a staff or stave count as a wondrous item. They are listed in two separate sections in Ultimate Equipment, and I'm fairly new to the game, so I really don't know.

Thanks in advance for your answers!
