Here's a question. Would it be broken if it DID allow involuntary possession on a will save?
Wow lots of good ideas here. I guess devious was perhaps the wrong word, I'm just looking for creative and original options that would give my players something "different" and memorable, maybe not quite what they were expecting, but interesting.
The final player texted me after the game, after some indecision, asking for perhaps some sort of spiky armor.
They JUST hit 5th level. First one asking was an alchemist.
So two guys just made wishes to a genie they found. I ALMOST got one to wish to know the rules of the wishes, but he caught on after he asked the rules and I said "Do you wish to know?" very casually :) I'm looking for creative responses to these wishes like tricky Djinn would come up with.
Here are their exact words they used in the request.
"I want a magical weapon that doesnt hurt me and the right size for me to wield, and that can kill my enemies."
And the orator bard wished: "I'd like a ring or an amulet or some sort of similar item that would give me a great boon to my oratory proficiency without giving me any problems whatsover"
Dale tries to hold his courage, letting fear fuel his blades, focusing at the undead clawing at him.
initiative
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
katana, wakizashi attack and damage
1d20 ⇒ 131d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
1d20 ⇒ 151d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
perception
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Terribly sorry. Been involved in a house contract. Yay! Ninja slice evil octopus! Learned Evasion through its rubbery ways! :p
difficulty of walls to climb to rafters? Might be ninja time :p
I suggest mahjong and crossword puzzles.
"Agh, get it off! Get it off!"
so am i grappled? What are my options. Newbish on the combat manouvers.
"Wow, lots of history here." Dane whispered reverently.
He stepped forward, hand brushing on the darkwood pews. "If this is real darkwood, these would fetch a pretty penny."
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
If perception check reveals no danger, I casually search the room and approach the anvil.
Thanks so much for the replies!
So for hexes, they really can get off free without anyone knowing they were being magically assaulted?
So for my character that wants guns, would it be better recommending just a fighter who has guns?

Its a hodgepodge really, help would be appreciated.
Firstly, I have a player who wants a gunslinger pirate. Its her first roleplaying experience, and I want her to be able to do what she has her heart set on. But I have heard bad things about the class, and was wondering what the most popular arguments and, more importantly, fixes for it were.
Secondly, do Witch hexes have somatic or verbal components? I find no mention of it, and if not, can they be done without knowing who did them?
When stealthing, and you say, shoot an arrow or cast a spell at someone, do they instantly know where you are now? I know if I got shot by an arrow in the dark, I would be confused to where it came from.
How does surprises and initiative work. A player will be talking to an NPC and want to suddenly stab him. I tell him to roll initiative first, and he said there is no way the person knows he is about to get stabbed.
I understand this logic, but also pointed out to them that that meant any enemy they came against could just come up and attack them with no recourse before they got to react. What is the correct way of doing this?
"This is a truly sad state to see so much knowledge in."
perception check
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Dale nodded in wide eyed approval at the show of force.
"Well, that was brutally efficient! That was a kobold, right?
Never seen one before, but if I know anything, I think one on its own is a bit curious."
"Stand back, let me take a crack at this."
Dale produces some thieves tools from his pack, shrugs at the looks, and gets to work on the lock.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Stinking up the dice this adventure! :) I'll try again as much as I'm allowed.
Dale resolves not to peek and get off on the wrong foot with his companions, and simply reclines by the fire, always enjoying the comforts of life when untold horrors weren't trying to kill him.
Dale secures the tower as ordered, and if all is well, continues to enjoy fire and food in their hard-won shelter.
Has the tower been cleared?
Dale smiled. Indeed I would! We have certainly earned it.
Has Grung just appeared next to us, or is that your way of telling us it is the meat Grung is cooking in the fire?
Dale looked with pity at the dead. "I wonder who they were, or why they are here. No...I won't despoil the bodies. Let them be buried with their worldly possessions I say." He spoke in true Taldoran fashion.
"Although, we may split the money. That is a generous burial fee."
He said with a slight glimmer in his eyes.
Gosh I love reading the discussions on here :)
Looks like my Rogue still needs that houserule to give him a chance to sneak around blindsight and tremorsense dudes.
Paizo: Sure, you can print our work...BWHAHAHA!
Dale tries to follow the cue of the others, but in his distraction with his own abilities he lets some of the noxious stuff make its way down to his lungs...
He felt his vitality seeping away, and with a pained look staggered out of the area, and set down nearby, gasping and doubled over.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Is it my turn now? Sleep addled but just ignore me if it isnt :)
Dale redoubled his efforts, realizing he was facing a tougher opponent than he though, with his blades failing to down it immediately.
He bent into his complete attack routine, sure that this maneuver would finish the beast.
katana
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
1d6 ⇒ 1
wakizashi
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
1d6 ⇒ 2
His eyes widened as the best deftly dodged his weak attacks, even in a prime position. He suddenly felt ashamed. He had gotten rusty, allowed his time in exile to ruin his perfect form.
I forgot to roll my sneak attack damage
1d6 ⇒ 1
Like what?
I feel maybe they need a role, not like an unarmed fighter with tricksies.
Is there a class that focuses on melee debuffs? Is there a class that focuses on combat maneuvers? The monk could be that kind of person.
I have heard it said that they are underwhelming, though looking at them I see they have lots of useful abilities, at least seemingly.
What would be the simplest fix, what do they really need to have a clear role? Full BAB? Better passive abilities? For my campaign.
Or grappling and grinding the enemy on his armor.
I'm having immense fun with an urban barbarian/invulnerable rager type. Great benefits.
Dale's eyes narrow. "Thats not all! Something serpentine is moving up there! Be on your guard fellows."
Following was fine with Dale, who had no desire to contract plague. The company seemed amiable enough, though somewhat serious. He chatted while they walked, and sat down to enjoy a snack with the rest of the group.
Monetary rewards would be very helpful to him, at the moment, as well.
one last chance with the hope of divine intervention!
Dale stares stupidly at him for a moment. "Food?"
Looking at the pitiful creature, and seeing he is not aggressive, Dale relaxes a bit. "Friend of yours?" He gives the others a concerned look.
I can live with armor as AC, like normal, though I really wish there was a way to make lighter armed combatants shine.
Really, my only REAL problem is that PCs dont get harder to hit as they level, naturally. Fighters just get better and better at hitting each other and not defending. The reliance on equipment is problem number two,
but if I could figure out some way to make a class defense bonus to work, id be happy.
Dale relaxed internally to match his outward nature. These folk didn't seem at all of wicked intent, though they looked imposing at first. He had had enough history with malicious people to have a decent enough idea.
He was indeed tired, but first food. And then...
"Bird sounds better than what I've been having. I'm no ranger.
I would be happy to take first watch for the pleasure of your companionship, good people."
Dale went ahead and unwrapped his bed roll and blanket, setting them somewhat close to the fire to keep the bugs away.
assuming we made a comfortable fire
Dale began to feel stiff from sitting still, and his stomach was grumbling. Perchance these folk had some wild game or something savory besides his bland trail rations? The group looked rugged, even war-tested, but he liked his odds better with a group than sleeping alone in the forest. He had heard strange things about the woods, from the folk he passed by and with his own ears, creeping through the leaves. Also, he could more easily outrun things on two legs.
Awkwardly, his face transitioned from stony serious to a large, carefree smile. "Why hello friends! Don't be alarmed now, I seem to have fallen asleep behind this shrub, and you look like merry company!"
He thought afterward that perhaps he should act drunk, which seemed more disarming, but ah well, too late.
Isn't it time for an update? :)

For now, continue using Stealth until discovered or something comes up I want to intervene in
Dale didn't move a muscle from where he had crouched behind a shrub.
He could never be too cautious, especially when happening upon strangers in the woods. He ever so slightly shifted the weight of his pack on his back, that had gotten quite heavy over time.
His curious sword protruded from its shoulder-wrapped sheath in the corner of his eye, while its smaller companion was hidden underneath Dale's clothing. In his hand casually lay the unusual sharpened pieces of metal that he had been trained in how to throw, simply as a precaution. The average common folk would likely not even perceive it as a weapon.
But the hunters at least looked personable. And their voices indicated that they had some good stuff nearby, hopefully. Dale laughed at himself, thinking about how terribly he violated his old survivalist training.
He should leave now.
It wasn't arrogance, he just had that sense that nothing bad was going to happen to him, because enough already had. He would probably go and say hello in a minute. He reminded himself that not every creature in creation had alternate motives and a knife behind their back.
Yay! Oh, heres a question: how do you handle dice rolls on here?
Fozbeck, where are you getting your numbers.
Also, what is your definition of near untouchable AC in a system that doesn't count armor toward AC?

Fozbek wrote: lastspartacus wrote: Thoughts? Quote: Different things like certain energy types and weapon damage types reducing the effectiveness, depending on armor, though not completely negating it. Too complicated for too little benefit. It sounds OK on paper, but it's going to slow the game to a crawl in practice.
Quote: Larger opponents/weapons reducing the effectiveness of armor. Don't like it in the base version, don't like it here.
Quote: Class Ref save bonuses apply as dodge bonus to Defense while in light armor, 1/3 in medium armor, and nothing in heavy armor. +1 Dodge bonus in no armor. Way overkill. Light armor wearers will be completely and totally untouchable, with significantly higher Defense and DR. Light armor wearers lose, at most, 4 AC with the Ultimate Combat Armor as DR optional rule; you're replacing it with up to +12 Defense. That's absurd. Its not absurd at all, but merely halway keeps up with BAB. a fighter smacking a rogue of the same level would still have a greatly favorable chance of hitting.
Oh, alright. Sorry, didn't realize I was holding it up from the start.
Here is my fix I was working on, tell me what you guys think.
Armor as DR.
Different things like certain energy types and weapon damage types reducing the effectiveness, depending on armor, though not completely negating it.
Larger opponents/weapons reducing the effectiveness of armor.
Class Ref save bonuses apply as dodge bonus to Defense while in light armor, 1/3 in medium armor, and nothing in heavy armor. +1 Dodge bonus in no armor.
Thoughts?
