Hey guys, just dropping a line to say I'm still here. My crunch and such on my Wizard is pretty much done, and I'm hoping to be able to join in at the next convenient spot.

A mechanics question for the collective you:

I'm looking at building in a weakness in the form of an Involuntary Transformation. The character is a half-fairy with an an alternate form that looks like an overgrown house-cat.

Involuntary Change wrote:

–1 TO –6 POINTS

You have two or more forms or identities you sometimes change between against your will. The value of the drawback is based on how often you change (frequency) and how difficult it is for you to resist the change (intensity). If you cannot resist the change, no matter what, the intensity value is 3 points. If you involuntarily switch between super-powered and normal human forms, you also have the Normal Identity drawback (see the following).

So the question is this, the Drawback says that the change has a difficulty to resist (5, 10, or 15), but I can't seem to find anywhere what sort of roll it is to resist. Is this a Will save? A different kind of save? A raw roll? I can't find an explanation anywhere. Anyone have experience with this or know where the explanation can be found?

Is an Immunologist an MD, a different kind of care giver, or perhaps a research scientist?

How do we go about correcting someone who assumes something and its wrong. I love the liberties and the development that has been going on with all the posts. But at the same time something you guys attempt to do or assume are not able to happen. IE Quark finding Invictus' clothes Invictus assuming that the tour could get to the floor of the trial or that he could. So how do I go about adjusting the story and making sure things still flow.

To me gaming is a social activity and I am really enjoying this group,
So I wouldnt mind if on the discussion and or PMs we were to get to a first name basis and if we also talked about real life stuff here and there when we wanted to we are starting to a little but the more we do the more it will feel like in person gaming.

So let me start off if you didnt realize My name is Joey
Im a high school history teacher. I commute 80 miles each way to work each day, so if you see posts between 530 and 730 AM that means im more then likely driving while posting same thing if its between 245 and 430 PM im also driving. Which I dont mind doing but that would be why sometimes it doesnt make total sense. I have three kids 9, 7 and 6 weeks so some days ill be busier then others. Summer is coming up so there will be days when we go out of town and ill let you guys know so they might be slow times.

Good to meet you Joey. I'm loving following the game so far and just itching to get in there. Hopefully my mage will be ready to go and approved to post today. My name is Joel, and I live in Edmonton Canada. I'm a therapist for the Psychiatric units at a major Canadian hospital, specializing in the treatment of mentally ill patients with substance abuse problems. I've got two kids, 3 and 5, and a wife working on her PhD, which tends to require me to do double duty with dad responsibilities, as she has no shortage of work on her thesis to do. I'm a history nerd, took a Classics minor in University, and have a lot of education in anthropology and archaeology besides (decided to go the therapist route do to a general shortage of jobs in history, though that may be my true passion).

Sorry for my part; I have definitely not been as available as I would like. I am back, but got simultaneously swamped with the back to work rush, and then with the roll-out of a new electronic information system taking effect at my hospital, which I was not included in until the very last minute. Now there is a massive push to get my training completed in 1/4 the normal allotted time, and it has left me with little time or energy. Sorry for the excuses, as well as the absence, as I was enjoying the campaign very much, and I thought that for your part, you were conveying the tone of the game very well.

Best wishes all.

I immediately had the same thought as Xander...

Tempest casts her gaze at the burning fireball, bringing back under her mental control. She brings it moving down the hall towards her, burning its way through the web as it moves. As it races the last few paces towards her and her companions, she wills it away, dispelling the flaming sphere.

Tempest brings up a powerful crackling ball of lightning in one hand, taking aim, and hurling it at Crove.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 2, 6) = 22
Snowball: If it hits, he needs to roll a Fort Save DC 17, or be staggered for 1 round.

Likewise, I'll be away for a bit.

Sorry I missed that last post. I've been going full throttle at work and at home in order to get ready for a trip. I'm sure some of you can relate; I work in the sort of place where I have no coverage for my particular role, so I have to do as much work in advance as I can to get ready for my absence (and then probably do twice as much in order to catch up after I get back, as well).

I am leaving for Iceland today, and then on to Denmark later in the week. I have wifi everywhere I am going, but I have no idea what the reception will like, or how much time I will have. I will try to post as much as I can, whenever I get the chance. I'm back in Canada (home) on May 30th, and back to work June 2nd, but of course I'm not sure how busy I'll be then either.

As a result, feel free to bot me as much as needed.

I like games to move at a steady pace at least, but I don't need them to be rushing along too fast. Guess I'm saying that if the game continues, i'll still be here.

Holding her breath, though she knows it will likely do little good, Tempest moves through the cloud in order to follow up behind her faithful companion.

Double move, through the cloud, and into the next room.
Fort Save against the cloud: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Tempest cries out a sharp command to Stormcloud, "Stormcloud; Attack!"

The wolf leaps forward, moving through the fog until it emerges from the other side. Homing in on the scent of his prey, he attacks the fleeing mage.

Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Trip (if bite succeeds): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Tempest dismounts and leads Stormcloud to the desk and chair. She commands the large wolf to inspect the chair in order to get the scent.

"Stormcloud, this is your prey. Seek."

Track by smell, DC 10 (Fresh): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

"Gone?"

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

"Seems rather pointless if you leave it open..."

Tempest picks up the rest of the scavenged materials, and puts them into one of her saddle bags for sorting later.

"Agreed. Let's find the director behind this sick show."

Round Three:

Once within the room, and with a clear line of sight to the subterranean creature, the diminutive halfling summons up another ball of lightning, hurling it into the monster in the corner.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 155d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 4, 6) = 22
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 56

It's been forever since I read the discription for Darkness. For some reason my memory was telling me it was Caster Level that made the difference, and not Spell Level. Oh well.

Round Two:

Instead of moving forward with the illuminated knife, Tempest remains where she was, reaching out a hand and blasting the remaining inmate with a ball of lightning.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 155d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 6, 4) = 15
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 60

With the creature out of the way of the door, she spurs Stormcloud into the room, taking up position on the far side; between Milovic and the elemental.

Tempest draws her knife from her belt, and with a quick word, it begins to glow, casting light in all directions. While she has not yet had time to throw it into the room, it does shed illumination within some sections of the room, as much as the doorway allows.

On the following round, she will throw the knife into the room, looking for something on the far side to stick it into, such as the walls, if they are wood. That should cancel out the dim illumination, and bring it back to normal.

Sorry, was moving house to another across town. Still have no internet connection at home.

Tempest moves closer to the doorway, trying to get a better view to the interior of the room. If she can make out any foe still living, she targets him with a Daze spell.
Will Save DC 16, or lose a turn.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

"Let us put and end to this."

Remounting up atop her waiting companion, Stormcloud, Tempest moves forward with the team.

"Is everyone doing well? Should we do any preparations or healing?"

Let is executions commence!

Tempest raises her hands, "Don't look at me; I don't even recognize the characters. Is that an alphabet? Ideograms? I don't think I could even get that far..."

"We probably need to acquire a magical means of deciphering this, or enough luck to find a 'Gibbrish to Common' dictionary in the official library."

Have it right under a conveniently hanging lampshade.

Tempest eyes Xander a bit when he requests she look the item over, checking his face to see if he is being sarcastic or patronizing. Seeing what appears to be a genuine request there, she moves over to the drawer, and its false bottom.

"I'm a sorceress; not a scholar. I'll take a look, but no guarantee I'll know anything more than you..."

Cast's detect magic.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

"It's a wand of Suggestion. No doubt used to manipulate those who hadn't yet volunteered to have their brains cut open. It appears to have some uses left, though not many."

Given that she can use it, Tempest picks up the wand and slides it into her robes, near her others.

To Mavro's comment she responds, "Seems clear there is a monster, unless all that destruction was caused by someone deliberately to make people think it was real. Seems like too much effort, for the trouble. No, I'm pretty sure it's real, the real question is whether we should bother confronting it before it wipes out the idiots who summoned it, or wait until after."

"Invisible?"
Tempest slides down off her mount, in order to grant him more freedom of movement.
"Stormcloud? Seek."
She points around the room, conveying the idea that he is to look for any hidden enemies or surprises.

Stormwind's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Stormwind's Track by smell: 1d20 + 5 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 8 = 14

I don't mind at all.

"Do you think we'll be lucky enough to find the madman at the helm of this ship, waiting quietly for us within his office? No? Well, I suppose we should check, just in case, before finding out what horrors have been reserved for the dungeon, given the degree of what is on display in the hospice proper."

The lithe halfling maneuvers her canine companion over to the office doors, and brings a few choice spells to mind for when the portal is flung open.

"Yes; and put a sudden and definitive end to it," Tempest adds with finality.

Tempest hits the thick headed, brain scrambled orderly with an exasperated expression and an offhandedly thrown Lightning Blast.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Tempest eyes the corpses as Stormcloud sniffs at them disdainfully.

"This is such a waste. Cutting up men's brains? Having them attack strangers before you even know their business? This Crove appears to be somewhat of a fool, in addition to whatever manner of criminal he might be."

For some reason I can't access the map; I keep getting a server error of some sort, and the map just looks like a few distorted pixels. As such, it's hard for me to determine my moves. I will try to check it again from home this evening (in case it is my work network's filters that are doing it, but if you would like to move on before that, feel free to autopilot me.

Acknowledged.

Tempest targets one of the new foes, one without injuries, and hits him with a crackling ball of lightning.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 3, 4) = 18
DC 17 to avoid being staggered

Cover

When making a melee attack against an adjacent target, your target has cover if any line from any corner of your square to the target's square goes through a wall (including a low wall). When making a melee attack against a target that isn't adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon), use the rules for determining cover from ranged attacks.

I believe this is the relevant passage, in this case.

It would be overlooking, then. As I said before though, I agree it is a silly rule, and doesn't make much sense. I'd probably house rule it out, if given the option.

PRD wrote:

Soft Cover

Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, such soft cover provides no bonus on Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to make a Stealth check.

The language here specifically states that soft cover provides a bonus against ranged attacks. A reach weapon still performs a melee attack, not a ranged attack. So, were this my game, I would rule that by RAW, soft cover does not apply to a reach weapon.

I've never heard of applying cover ruled to a reach weapon; I thought it was for ranged weapons only. Some hand held weapons, like a whip, specifically state they function like a range attack, but I'd always just considered melee weapons in a different category. Is this a specific rule that I've overlooked, or something that is assumed from other rules?

In either case, it would seem silly to me, as that is pretty much exactly what pole arms are designed for; so that a second soldier can attack from the second rank, even though he has an ally right in front of him.

If Tempest can still see any of the orderlies when it comes to her turn, or if she can move to a point where she can see the same (without advancing in front of the fighters of course), she will do so.

Lightning Blast/Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Going to up of town for a few days. I don't know what internet will be like there, so please bot me as necessary.

Sorry for the delay; the site was coming up as down, blank, or under maintenance every time I checked it for the last several days. I haven't been able to post on any of my games. I don't know if everyone was seeing those errors, but the look of them gave off the impression to me that Paizo had a full server crash and had to restore from backups.

Helping her companions to finish off the crazed orderlies, Temptest throws another of her small lightning blasts at the closer enemy.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Tempest frowns, disappointed that her spell did not down the orderly all at once. Targeting him again, she reaches out an arm, and lets fly a bolt of electrical power.

Lightning Blast - Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 10

"Is that what the scars on their heads are about? This guy cut up parts of their brains? Guess there will be no talking down this lot.

Tempest raises a hand, crackling with energy as she does so.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 = 18
Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 2, 4) = 21
With a flick of her wrist she sends the summons ball of lightning flying back into one of the thugs.
Aiming for the one behind the one fighting in the doorway.
If he survives, he needs a DC 17 Fort save or he's staggered for a round.

"Gah! Smells like Mavro's feet in here."

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Tempest looks around the chamber with disdain, a mixture of pity and disgust on her feature while she regards the inmates.

"An offering, no doubt. He hopes that if the beast gorges itself on these here, it will be too full to eat him as well... I do not think I care for this man already."

Tempus follows in the middle of the pack, mounted upon Stormcloud.

Tempest mounts up upon Stormcloud, the shaggy beast sensing the tension in the air, and seemingly anxious to move as well.

"Let's go."

Tempest has stated her opinion. Bait sounds good, but Tempest would rather be about whatever we are going to do than debate it. If agreeing to take him to jail gets them moving, then that is what she will do.

"Hmph. I prefer the bait idea, but if we're set on the other course, lets be about it and move on to the next of these creeps. There is no telling how pressed we are for time..."

D'oh

"I had the same idea, Mavro. The idea of bait sounds fitting, considering he's one part the source of this mess..."
