As far as I can tell, the only thing Jackson brings to a movie is the ability to find the right people to work on it. I didn't get nearly as much enjoyment from the story itself as I did from the sets, costumes, mass combat, and graphics.

I doubt the Lord of the Rings would've been very enjoyable at all for me if it weren't for WETA and Andy Sirkus.

Exactly why I couldn't read the damn books. I finished them in time for the first movie, somehow my childhood didn't include them, but those where the hardest books I have ever tried to read. I honestly don't think I could do it again. the appendices are more interesting. which is why someone who can be trusted with the material and graphics and truth of the story is necessary.

I would hope for jackson (even though that wont happen), anything else and I will probably not even see it in theaters.

JK has also said that the prophecy could only mark one child. meaning, Harry. Neville is destined for nothing more than a perfectly ordinary life as far as wizards in the middle of a wizarding war go.

I loved the finale! the return if the gun, the gigantic devils trap, and seeing how far reaching John's plans went was ridiculous (the awesome kind of ridiculus). Special attention should be paid to Dean's pain, and trying to get Sam back.

The end of the ep left me alittle dissapointed though. I was thrilled up until the end though. I know there is still more for them to do, but It was nothing like the end of season 1, which was explosive in its finale.

I am psyched for season 3 though.

Has anyone checked out the comic detailing John Winchester's first steps into hunting. I wanted to look into it myself, but my trips to the comic shop are regrettably few and far between. I tend not to remember everything I meant to get. Any thoughts?

You know, ever since Batman The Animated Series went off the air for Batman and Robin, I have ignored whatever was going on there. I have had very limited opportunity to check out the latest series, but I still don't think I paid much attention. Sounds like that was a mistake on my part. I know I would be geekin out right there with you.

However on a note for something I did not skip; I have all three seasons of the original animated series. I love this series, as I bet you do. I highly recommend checking it out. They are sequenced by date of production, not by air date, which was screwed up on several two part eps. Unfortunately not much in the way of special features, but when you look at the sheer story telling by Bruce Timm and Co., I think it makes up for it.

I am going to have to check out the new series if I can, when it comes back.

And how excited are you for the next movie?

Rest assured, though, that while we'll no longer have Dragon and Dungeon as a delivery vehicle, Paizo will be doing more with comics now than ever before. Significantly more...

So James, does this specifically relate to comic strips or might it translate to a comic book? One set in the new Pathfinder world? I have been curious for a little while if paizo has looked into a venture like this, and what the market info might indicate.

I'd be willing to do the art anyway... not that there is a shortage of artists around here...

I noticed that too, but it didn't bother me that much really. What did concern me was that most of the tattoo abilities only activate 3rounds/day and a lot of them just activate on their own when the conditions are met.

Was there any thought to them lasting longer? maybe the rounds need not be consecutive? or the pc could chose when they came into affect?

I will probably talk to my dm about house ruling it like that, I was just curious.

I believe Dumbledore is actually dead.

I agree with the “Neville is the real hero,” theory.

2 things real quick. JK has stated that Dumbledore IS dead, but there is still some part or scene to do with him in the next book that was really hard for her to write. I imagine this is probably a pensieve memory or some other kind of letter.

Second, she has also said that Neville being the "other" boy of the prophecy has in no way singled him out as a champion (in hiding or otherwise). Through the prophecy, Voldemort marked Harry, which means that only he is the one referred to. Neville is in fact an ordinary boy.

I have been interested in this sort of thing for a while but never had a chance to play out any mechanics. The Leviathan Hunter from Stormwrack, has some cool trophy abilities. Also there is a Craft Trophy feat in The Players Handbook 2, but I think those are only good for a few days until they rot or something like that. Then in one of the Savage Tide adventures there is a mechanic for skinning dinosaurs for a shop. I think it is something like a survival check against their CR.

A friend of mine was telling me about this a few weeks ago. There was some kind of personnel change at the very top of the tree of New Line. The new guy basically refused to pay Jackson what he was contractually owed as far as profits go. I don't see why really. The point of a contract is that things will be concrete. Personally I don't think I want anyone else but Peter Jackson to do Smaug.

Big Trouble in Little China- the capstone to Kurt Russel-a-thons. Which must include Tombstone, and Escape from NY.

Shogun Assassin- Banned in the states for a while. nuff said.

Army of Darkness- of course, although reading this board is making me want to watch Evil Dead 2.

Story of Ricky! man, I haven't thought of that in a long time.

I can't believe someone mentioned Troma videos, let alone as a positive.

Berry Gordy's "The Last Dragon"- Sho 'nuff. The Shogun... of Harlem!

Equilibrium- I am sure alot of people here have seen it, but I don't think it ever got much public notoriety.

Nightwatch (Nochnoi Dozor)- Great Russian film, with 2 more to come.

The first thing that came to my mind, was a griffon rearing up on its hind legs on the cliff's edge, with the sword through its' neck/ chest. That, or a warrior swinging away with the longsword at some (unseen?) foe, with a griffon on his shield as a standard.

This could be alot of fun. Some friends and I did this sort of thing for a while a couple years ago. Coming up with monthly ideas and then seeing what everyone came up with. Great exercise.

Now if I could just get through all my other work first.

My two cents.

I don't like Snape. He is an interesting character, but Jo does an excellent job of making me hate him. Just the same, I am tempted to think he is actually on the right side. By doing what he did, he is even closer to the dark lord, and the order still has a spy. The problem is, noone seems to know it. Well, that might actually be the trick of it, but you get the idea. I agree that JK completely departed from her standard formula for book 6, but I still had fun with it.

Much more fun than the 4th movie. Although it has grown on me as "something to put on" when I need a "potter fix", I was just so disappointed with its representation of so much material. I thought they had the absolutely wrong take. Dumbledore charges, screaming at harry, for his name coming out of the goblet of fire? Dumbledore's spell coming through the door being no different than the same spell cast by anyone else? That was on of the biggest letdowns. In the book, the air around him burns with power. I always imagined this as heat coming off of pavement in the summer, just emanating off him. I get that they didn't have to do it my way, but they had such an opportunity here and they did nothing. Why was Voldemort so crazed? He seemed next to lunatic most of the time. Hardly composed, although certainly brutal. After I saw it, I was contemplating not seeing the rest of them. I do have to admit, the dragon and resurrection scenes were really cool, though, and by the time the next movies arrive, I will get around to lining up for them.

Sort of trudging through the first book of the Dark Tower series by Steven King. My girlfriend loves these books but I just can't get into them. 6 more to go though.

On the horizon is Nightwatch by Sergei Lukyanenko (and the sequels when they come out), the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin, and finishing up the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander (started it awhile ago and for some reason never finished the 4th and 5th books).

I am really looking forward to Nightwatch since I love the movie. (highest grossing Russian films ever, I think. I would recommend it.) From what I read though, the movie only covers the first division of the first book, so I don't know how they will treat the 2nd and 3rd movies related to the books.

I wasn't aware that starbuck's death was at all actor related. After all, she has been putting up with that internet criticism of "starbuck is a woman!?" for almost 3 years now. I think she can handle it by now. And anyone that sits down and watches the show could see that it is not that much of an issue.

I thought the death was fairly well in character. I was still a little shocked, since they didn't come up with the last minute save. But the character has been very messed up in the head for a while. It wasn't that far out to see her crack under the weight of it all.

By the way, does anyone know how many episodes are left in the season? Feels like it just got started again.

I hear you. I have been very hesitant to get any books for a long time. My thinking was, I could do anything that I wanted to within the core books (or some of the other books I have) just as well anyway. I am especially wary of books that repeat material. The special gems and stuff remind me of playing Diablo 2 which is a favorite really. I have to admit though, I am looking forward to this book more than I have any other in a while. Part of me is really hoping for a bunch of new item properties that I haven't seen before. Part of me is excited about the gems. I am not going to buy it without looking through it for a bit, but I am kind of considering it.

I agree. There are some more of the "class combo" stacking feats in the new complete books (scoundrel). but they still only allow for certain combos. x and x. predetermined. I would either like a much broader variety of those, or some formula feat, for choosing any one class ability from each of two different classes, and allowing the levels to stack for determining that ability. Obviously you couldn't choose spellcasting and base attack (for a bad example), but you get the idea I hope.

Carry on the good work.

Thanks for the praise Ashenvale.

I know what you mean about my bio. I have rewritten it at least half a dozen times and I'm still not happy with it. Check back soon. I started making progress on that update last night and I'll have it up in the next two weeks or so..

Thanks again.

What character classes do you have? I am a huge fan of Iron Heroes but have never gotten to play any of the material. I would love to hear how it is going.

Great Green God,

www.clearandsunny.com/ryan

Glimpse all you like. By saying it isn't done, I really only mean that I need to update my recent professional work, still lifes and figure drawings from school, and some comic pages I have been working on.

James Keegan,

I noticed in another thread that you were in art school somewhere. I just went back and finished up my degree in December. It can be overwhelming to think about sometimes, but I wouldn't want to do anything else. Good luck with school.

Thanks Ashenvale,

You seem to know your stuff too. Good advice for all. It was pretty interesting. I left school for a year or two and started doing the freelance thing. I learned more in the year doing that, than I had in the previous three years at art school.

I have been to Gencon and Origins a few times. Most helpful to hear the feedback and to get confidence enough to put your stuff out there. So I would recommend that to anyone.

I have my website up, but unfortunately it is not complete. That has actually stopped me from sending out my info to new editors. I am getting to the point where I may do it regardless of it being finished.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks also to Mike, for putting those names up. I think they'll hear from me pretty soon.

Dire Satyr

I have wondered about Udon myself, as some of the pieces are of differing quality. Makes sense then, that it is a studio.

To Mike and James or anyone in the know:
I am an artist too. I have been doing freelance RPG stuff for a couple years. I looked around on the site and in all the writing guidelines I found only one small mention of submiting art portfolios to "Dragon". Is there a different place to submit for "Dungeon" as well? Is it more of an umbrella type thing, where, I actually submit my stuff to Paizo instead of to each magazine separately? I noticed recently that each mag has the same art director, but I was hesitant to contact him directly. Didn't want to rock the boat on submissions guidelines.

Thanks.

Hehe, I thought you meant you were gonna put the swords like Townsaver, Coinspinner, Sheildbreaker and so on in your game; never heard of anything other than the fantasy novel of such, interesting.

Hehe, nice. The Books of Swords are some of my favorites. I found an alright translation of them to 3rd edition a while ago. Not positive where, but I think it might have been on Sean K. Reynolds site.

I have a player looking at the warblade right now. He is the most effective player in the group already, so I know that it will do well what it is supposed to do. Haven't really read the mechanics myself, but he is pretty excited about them.

WE pretty much allow anything as long as it doesn't appear blatantly unbalanced. There have only been a few issues of this with things from WOTC. Mostly we find it in material from other companies that clearly haven't playtested anything before print.

I am definately interested in hearing what everyone thinks about it. A friend (and player/dm in my group) just picked it up. Mostly he has been eyeing the swordsage. I only got a chance to browse it, but I was pleased to see a feat. "superior unarmed strike". Finally a fighter can keep up (somewhat) with a monk on unarmed damage output. It always made no sense to me why a fighter, with all their feats and combat training, could not increase their unarmed damage beyond a d3. sorry, small rant.

Anyway, even if you have questions, there are always parts of a book that are worth while. pick and choose as you see fit. Take only what you want, need.

The world lankhmar is incredible as far as the actual books go, I would recomend them to anyone. Likable characters funny situations and overall a take on the world that I haven't seen before. As far as the new Mongoose products go, I have no idea. I believe they use the Runequest Setting's rules which I have read but have a hard time understanding. Everything goes up by percentages (which I get is really only an expanded take on the d20 rules, but I still don't like things getting more complicated), and there don't seem to be any levels to go up in or xp to gain.

On the other hand, I have an old 2nd edition Lankhmar book put out by TSR I think, that is pretty nice. The art sucks but it was way back, and for the most part, things are translated over pretty well. It is fun to look back at the different characters and remember them from the books.

As far as being low magic, the setting is one that alows even ordinary characters with a minimal amount of magical training to work out a chant or ritual. There are very few spellcasters of very great power, but the main characters are regularly in their employ. (Don't know how that translates to the RPG since it is unlikely that your pcs would actually play Fafrd and the Grey Mouser). There are also very interesting dietys that play an active role in the lives of chosen worshipers, going so far as to curse them for not paying enough attention. Also there is a fine distinction between the Gods OF Lankhmar and the Gods IN Lankhmar. The former are your typical RPG dietys, while the former are terrible walking corpses that have only appeared once. The gods of Lankhar don't really even mess with them.

It really is not the only city in the setting either, but it is sort of a Waterdeep, where it is the biggest inside the particular empire or region.

And now I have been typing so long I can't remember anymore of your questions...

I would absolutely recommend the novels the novels though. I guess that didn't really answer the vital questions about the RPG, but I hope it was of some help.

I can't believe it. Ninjas get no love.

Ahh... such is the path of the assassin and the spy. To skulk and sneak and drop eaves; and to never be skulked or sneaked or eaves dropped in return. It is so lonely in the shadows...

-"Lament of the Ninja"

By the way I think it is awesome that Eric Mona is not only an available option, but is actually in 2nd.

I was just reading through Issue #144 and there is an imprisoned Olman warrior in the diseased troglodyte caves. Jakara of the Tiger: a Totemic Demonslayer (which sounds sweet by the way). There is mention too of him possibly teaching his methods to those willing. I don't think this has been mentioned in the thread yet, but I imagine it is a pretty good shot that is the new PRC, especially since he is to be detailed in an upcoming Savage Tidings article in Dragon.

Anyone else catch it? I didn't read Shackled City at all and there was no real introduction of the PRC for Age of Worms. It was sort of just, ..."and now anyone interested and qualified can take Wormhunter! Yay! Moving on..."

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

I started running AOW for 3 friends, probably sometime in August or September. Right now we are in a the second go around of the whispering cairn. I think it is called " Gathering of Winds?"

Baring the occasional real world interuption (school, work, snow...) we have been playing a 3-4 hr sessions each week. Originally each player had a single gestalt player and we were running about 2-3 sessions per adventure. That was getting alittle complicated though as they got to higher levels. We just switched to each player having a two normal characters. It seems like a good idea still, but I feel like our game has slowed to a crawl. Mow there are so many more actions to account for. This current adventure has already seen 2 sessions and I think we will be due for a few more with our new pace.

drag. Oh well, for the most part everyone is still having alot of fun. So I can't really be too upset.

Heh, he doesn't think Spiderman did, but She- Hulk definitely did, and apparently someone's daughter from a "What If" issue during the Secret Wars. Everyon else is correct though, Captain America, Beta Ray Bill and the rest.

It is aimed at the 3-6ish range I would think. I like working in pen and ink, but have been considering trying out some muted watercolor or colored chalk. I will have to check out that book though for reference. I have a feeling the library will be my friend.

FH

Pen and ink are great, I would prefer to do all my work that way if I could but some art directors have told me that it needs more, while others think it is more than enough. Sorry, my own personal demons of a sort...

Something to try, since you are interested in watercolor. Light enough watercolor paper will run through a xerox machine or home printer. Instead of having to transfer an ink drawing or worry over destroying an original with experimentation, you can try out the watercolors on the print until you are comfortable with the look and process.

This could also help to unify the look of the entire book or series. You could use the watercolors for covers and the inks for interiors.

(Now that I think of it, I might recommend the xerox over the home printer, although you can adjust the home printer more yourself, I don't know if all home printer ink would resist the watercolor application... sorry.)

Incidentally, how long are the books and how many drawings are you planning on? Inks are definitely faster, or at least for me. It might be better to go with what will allow you to produce more work faster. I like to keep a fast pace, my mentality suffers when my productivity does.

My girlfriend just recommended watercolor pencils. They allow more control. You can blend them a bit with water after laying them down. Well, at least that is how they are supposed to work. She has been able to get them to work, but I had a little less success when I tried it a few years ago. That was a class project though, with a teacher that I, and most people could not stand. Thant might have been it. I have a set of 12 "Derwent" Water Colour Pencils.

It is Dragon #326. It details Karasendrieth and Dorn Graybrook.
I really liked the way this was done, although I would have liked for there to be a few more characters detailed.

I was wondering about choosing "savage" creatures for favored enemies as well...

I don't have the mag in front of me, but did the savage template alter their type? or does it work the same way as lycanthropes do now, where the base creature maintains their original type as far as the favored enemy is concerned...?

Fritz Lieber stuff would be great, but Mongoose Publishing just came out with a Lankmhar setting. I know there are more books for it coming soon too.

If anyone is interested, Stephen King's Dark Tower series is coming out in a comic book by Jae Lee. The art looks pretty good, as you would expect. I believe it is set to come out on Feb. 7th actually.

Fred Saberhagen's "Books of Swords".

Sorry Fake Healer, I'm afraid I made it sound rather bleak. That wasn't my intent. I really enjoy what I do and would want anyone else to enjoy it too, if they were doing it.

If there is anything more I could do to help, let me know.

Even if you would rather I keep my mouth shut...

I do freelance illustration in the RPG field. My best advice is to just keep working at it. It took me a year of professional work to really get comfortable with what I wanted my finals to look like.

Find out what your strengths and weaknesses are artistically. You said you went to art school so I imagine you might already have an idea of that. Work around them. Don't try to force something that isn't working. One of the hardest things to do is trying to make something work that you don't enjoy. Often enough there is a way around the problem that can play to your strengths if you just look for it hard enough.

I don't know if I agree with simplifying artwork for a children's book. I took some classes relating to children's books as well, and what I found was that children's books are often very detailed and elaborate. Kids are highly imaginative and books directed at them can and should be just as creative.

The bottom line is: if you feel comfortable/confident enough with your own work, it will show through.

Tarlane wrote:

I'm a huge quarterstaff fan myself, one of my current daydreams(If I could get anyone else in my group to run a game) is to play a dual wielding ranger who makes full use of his quarterstaff. Give him that unassuming traveler look until he lays the hurt down.

I keep going back to the same idea myself. A ranger with a a quarterstaff, two-weapon fighting when he can full attack, and two-handing it for 1 1/2 str damage when he charges or for whatever reason can only make one attack. Add the "hunting" enchantment from masters of the wild on both ends, improved favored enemy, and favored power attack (both from complete warrior i think). Thats ALOT of damage on a favored enemy from just a quarterstaff.

We just use the generic instant kill rules in our group. so far it has only happened twice, both time it was the same player. Once was against the fatigued bombardier beetle in the "Whispering Cairn" (1st adventure or the Age of Worms). I felt so bad for the poor thing.

The second time was actually a life saver. We were playing Star Wars RPG. somewhere on Tatooine we crashed a sail barg after going through a huge fight. the fight hadn't gone well for us, but we made it through barely. we made some reflex saves to avoid being crushed by the barg rolling over and then our GM says... "Roll initiative, and a Krak Dragon rises up out of the sand." We manged to hide with our first round before the thing could charge. We had all almost died already. We were in no shape for this. That same player took a full round to concentrate and fire. Natural 20. Everyone held there breath. Natural 20 again! Our GM was stunned. It fell over dead. Probably shouldn't have happened, but it as really the only way we were going to survive.

To add to the crazy-ness of it, he rolled both instant kills with the same d20. It had never been used for anything but those 2 times. Now he is afraid to use it inappropriately or he might jinx it.

DMR wrote:

I have a player that chose "human" as his first favored enemy, and it's been a pretty good strategic choice (but as DM, I find it a royal pain! Seems like choosing 'human' should be restricted to evil characters only, no?).

I don't think a ranger should have to be evil to take his own race/sub-race, as a favored enemy. A bounty hunter or lawman for instance, might be good or neutral but still know the habits of, and how to combat his chosen foes. It makes sense that they could study and understand their own race just as well or better by being a part of it too.

I thought this was one of the good changes to the 3.5 ranger.

I know I loved when Dragon presented stats for the characters from the "Rage of Dragons" trilogy and "The War of the Spider Queen" books.

I am not really saying I want issues devoted to entire worlds or settings, But I like to see great characters stated out.

What I have really wanted to see are stats for Erevis Cale and Riven from the "Cale" trilogy. I think there is a new series with them too, something like "the Shadow War"?

There are something like 5-6 different people that have lifted Thor's hammer. A friend of mine has near encyclopedic knowledge of most things useless. Even if he never read the comic, he could remember the names from the back of the one marvel trading card that mentioned it back in 1992 or something. We end up doing superhero/comic/D&D trivia when we go out to bars alot of the time. I'll try to ring him up for the info sometime soon.

Thanks alot everyone. The player is going to be thrilled.

I actually liked it as written. it gave a character that is almost uniformly relegated to sitting back and worrying over other peoples' hit points something viable to do. aside from searing light and flamestrike, the player doesn't usually get to do much except check up on everyone else. Besides, it only works against undead and they have somewhat strong will saves already. for us, so far, the save has been made 50% of the time.

if you are facing hordes of low level undead, the old rules would have outright destroyed all of them anyway. I think I will point the group at this thread and open the discussion back up.

any more opinions? positive or negative, from anyone using the alternate rules?

I think they are referring to the alternate rules from complete divine, which I really like, but we had some objections to in our game. basically you get a d6 of positive energy damage per cleric level to all undead within 30ft. they get a will save to resist or for half damage, and turn resistance becomes sort of a damage reduction against the turning damage.

The uber gamer in my group didn't like the amount of damage output, equating it to a free jumped up fireball (or better than any spell of an equal level) for a class that is somewhat debatable, as being overpowered already. This is possibly due to it affecting a character not his own, although I do sort of agree that it is alittle overpowered. We are playing Age of Worms, so you would think they would enjoy the help. I have told them repeatedly, this is undead heavy, but they won't really listen on that count. I guess it is really more their problem than mine, but still.

We discussed it and house ruled it down to a d6 of positive energy damage per cleric level, that can be spread out in any amount to those undead within 30ft. therefore, he can chose to target one undead, for all of the damage, or disperse it amongst several undead.

Honestly, the regular 3.5 rules for turning are so difficult and useless, I personally loved how simple the alternate is.

I am DMing AOW for a few friends, and while we are not new to the game, this particular question has never come up before. One person is playing a monk and wants to take the "Improved Natural Attack" feat from the monster manual. This increases the damage die of an attack by one step, as if the creature's size had increased. The character must have a natural attack to begin with. In the PHB under "Strike, Unarmed": The damage from an unarmed strike is considered weapon damage for the purposes of effects that give you a bonus on weapon damage rolls.

However, under the "Magic Fang" spell: This spell can affect a slam, fist, bite, or other natural weapon.

Then, under "Magic Weapon": A monk's unarmed strike is considered a weapon, and can be enhanced by this spell.

So, I am sure this has probably come up somewhere before. Am I missing another rule somewhere that would clarify this? or is there some errata that I can find?
I would appreciate any help at all, but I would really like something from an official source, if there is one, on the subject.

Thanks.

does anyone know what that cast on sam's arm if for? he has had it most of this second season that I can remember. is it left over from the car crash at the end of last season/begining of this one or something else? every week i wait for something to be said about it, or for it to be gone. i keep thinking i havent seen it in a while and then the next scene, there it is again. either way, that has got to be the slowest healing injury in the history of the show.

thoughts? am i the only one that has seen it?

I am not touching any of the Drizzt 1000 orcs debate. I am actually a fan of the character(although, yes, the last many books have not been great and artemis/ jarlaxle are far more interesting), but i don't see why most people who don't like him (which is fine, that is why it is "your" opinion) have to dump on anyone that does.

ok, didn't really mean to turn that into a small rant. sorry. anyway...

I would pick the Circle of 8 over the sisters. yes the sister are the chosen and all that, but despite having 20-30+ lvls not one of them can cast an epic spell that I have seen. (If I am wrong in placing Mordankainen with the Circle I apologize, Greyhawk is not my strong area, but I thought there was some organization that he led.) And not that it technically counts for much, but half the spells the girls cast were invented/named by those Circle members.

NEW BATTLE!: Stewie (stewart gilligan griffin of family guy fame) vs. Brain (of Pinky an the Brain)
FIGHT!

well, he is the "captain" of thunder and lightning, which i think basically translates to him being the god of thunder, or the mortal embodiment thereof... or maybe it was that his powers were given to him by said god. not exactly up on my DC mythology outside of Kingdom Come. still a great comic by the way. if anyone actually hasn't read it, i highly recommend it. SHAZAM!

I realize that is not actually an opinion on who would win. so here goes: If cartoon tiamat has trouble dealing with kids then captain marvel will be a nightmare for her, as captain marvel's alter ego is in fact billy batson. a kid.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

who: gestalt ftr/mnk
what: raging grimlock brb chief
when: 3 faces of evil
where: grimlock tunnels
why: she and the cleric/paladin are fighting the chief while the ftr/wiz holds off a tunnel of low level grimlocks. the chief drops her to negative hit points and she starts dying. the cleric, now affraid for his own hit points, retreats and heals himself. now he had done this before and the attacking creature pursued him allowing the dying character to stabilize on their own. i had resolved that his cowardice would not be thusly rewarded again. so this time the raging grimlock chieftain promptly coup de graced the down pc on the spot. the look on his face as now were surrounded was great, but it was when his wife (whose character had just died) started hitting him for allowing it to happen that i felt really good about my decision.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

well, i have been dming AOW for a little while now. i suppose it is time i added my few cents (deaths).

who: gestalt dragon shaman/cleric
what: critical hit from a raging albino 1/2 orc
when: whispering cairn
where: standing at the bar in the feral dog tavern
why: they had just finished commiserating with the beaten up gang led by kullen. they actually had all the information they needed and were getting ready to go, when one pc (the gestalt fighter wizard) says to kullen: "you look pretty..." in a rather insinuating and menacing way. at this point the half orc is pretty deep in his cups and doesn't take this very well. so i had them roll initiative. Kullen acted first. he raged and power attacked the nearest character, which happened to be the dragon shaman/ cleric and not the insult delivering ftr/wiz. greataxe crit on a 3rd lvl character= brains everywhere. it was so much fun, i had them rolling balance checks not to slip in what was left of him all over the floor. the player couldnt believe it.
