I prefer 2nd ed D&D, and palladium/rifts.
I've played shadowrun, vampire, toon, battletech, gurps, paranoia, and a bunch of others that I'm sure I forgot.

Personally, I have to say other. As I am a DM and player. The other DM has said he's going to buy the core and run it to see how it is, so I will be playing it. For my own campaign, after a few tries of both 3.0 and 3.5, I went back to 2nd ed, house rules, we used before about a year ago. Based on what I have seen so far of 4e, from the devil/demon issue, to eliminating high level problems for DM's, I'll be sticking with 2nd. To me it just doesn't make sense for me to buy a bunch of new books, to "house rule zero" them, when I already have a system, that works the way I enjoy and I've already house-ruled.

From Rich Baker's blog:

- Devils are angels who rebelled. They rose up against the deity they served and murdered him. The crime of deicide is unimaginably perverse for angels, and hence devils were cursed and imprisoned in the Nine Hells.
- The Nine Hells are what became of the murdered deity's divine realm after his death. The Hells are the devils' prison, and it is difficult for them to get out without mortal aid.
- We've re-sorted demons and devils a bit, since we want these two categories of monsters to make a little more sense. Devils tend to be more humanoid in form, usually fight with weapons, and often wear armor. Most have horns, wings, and tails. One consequence of this: the erinyes and the succubus were holding down pretty similar territory, so we've decided that they're the same monster, called the succubus, and it's a devil.
- Ice devils don't look like other devils. We've decided that they are actually a demonic/yugoloth race... one that was entrapped by Mephistopheles long ago in an infernal contract. So ice devils hate other devils, retain their insect-like appearance, and have a special loyalty to Mephistopheles. It's one of the reasons why Asmodeus has never chosen to move against Mephistopheles. Asmodeus would of course win if he did, but that would let the ice devils out of their contract.

It just sounds to me like Mr Baker asked the, a few too many devils for their back story. One more heaping pile o lies. hehe
One more reason not to go near 4e

actually I thougtht they were wiping everything, except Baldur's Gate, off the map to make it make more sense.

Silly, people thinking star wars saga was the playtest for 4e.
no it was Baldur's Gate.(not that boring old one that was SO longwinded the other top down one)

Yeah I have to say all the. "For the fans," comments have just totally pissed me off, since 3rd ed showed up. None of it has been. If you want to see something done, for the fans, read up on what Palladium Books has been through in the last year. I'm so glad you didn't sell Kevin.
Had I been smart enough to say goodbye to AD&D when I heard about 3rd ed, I probably wouldn't have been close to as pissed off I have become. I started with D&D basic and worked my way to 2nd ed. My first DM sucked, by the way, and I probably would have given it up quickly had it not been for Dragon and later Dungeon. I held onto it in 3rd ed, hoping it would get through. I even held onto it through 4th ed.(call it 3.5 if you have to, we all know) The ROLEplaying game that a hole bunch of people loved enough to work so hard to keep getting to us turned more and more into a strategy game, with collectable mini's even. Everytime they said it was all for the fans and the game they loved, it ate at me. It was a total lie. WOTC never did anything for the fans, only for the money.
I've since gone back to 2nd, thanks to my local used bookstore, and some help from ebay. I've also switched back to Palladium Books which can tell you all about what it means to do EVERYTHING for the fans and the game they love.
I honestly have wished for a few years that TSR and AD&D would have died with 2nd. I also am actually kind of happy in an odd sort of way that WOTC has done this and pissed even more people off. I also wish that they would continue to screw things up and piss off even more people to the point that Dungeons & Dragons can the long overdue rest it deserves. Talk about needing new people in the hobby all you want, but for those new people looking for a game made and still run by people who love the fans and the game, I would point them over to Palladium Books.
Dungeons & Dragons has been dead for a while, in my mind at least.
R.I.P. old friend. I will continue to honor your memory wih an edition made by people who REALLY loved you.

I'd have to say that it does look like alot of stuff already 3e and 3.5e articles. I was also under the impression that it was going to be digging up old 2nd and 1st ed stuff. It just seems like most of these I already have in dragons because they came out in 3.0 or 3.5 to begin with as opposed to...
"collects the most popular classic articles from throughout Dragon magazine's 29-year history, all updated to the current edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules."
I have nothing against the new stuff, I like alot of it. Its just that between my players and I, we have most if not all of it. The description just made it seem, to me at least, like it was converting older stuff to 3.5e.
It should work fine those who don't. Its just not something I'll be needing.

Is the Serenity game a 20 system?

I pulled this quote from MaragaretWeis.com

"What game system do you use? Is it d20?
The Serenity Role Playing Game uses a completely new game system. It is designed to be both easy to teach and learn, emphasize story and fast-moving play, and utilize intuitive game mechanics so that more time is spent having fun instead of looking up rules. The dice we use for the game are: d2, d4, d6, d8, d10, and d12. Yes, that's right--no d20s at all."

I played 3.0 briefly when it came out. I'll be hopping back in to 3.5 this time. I laid out awhile for money reasons. That and I used to whine alot about change. hehe I've since realized that never did much for me but cause me to miss out on all kinds of things.

Hey guys. I just started new suscriptions to both Dragon and Dungeon. I haven't had one in a few years. Looks like I'm going to be gaming again. Anyway, I signed up the day before I paid $34.00 to fill my 10 gallon tank. hehe So, just make it worth 2 tanks of gas guys. hehe.

Happy to be re-gaming
