I'm new to Pathfinder and trying to get my head around adding Ranks to Class Skills. Does the +3 bonus apply only to the FIRST Rank you put in that Class Skill, or to EACH AND EVERY Rank you put in a Class Skill? For example, let's say I add 2 Ranks to a Class Skill (and no Ability Modifiers apply). Would the Class Skill bonus then be +4 (i.e. +3 for the first Rank, and +1 for the second) or +6 (i.e. +3 for each of the two ranks)? Thanks!
I would suggest running a few simple, self-contained adventures before diving into something as long and complex as Rise of the Runelords. I also found the Core Rules a little daunting at first, which is what makes the Beginner Box such a great introduction. You can download plenty of low-level adventure modules from the Paizo site, which can be adapted fairly easily to BB rules. I'd use them to get yourself and your players more accustomed to the basic rules before you attempt something as long and involved as RotRL. And remember the bottom line is, have fun. If a rule isn't working for you, throw it out and improvise. Just my two cents!
I'm basing my character for a forthcoming PF campaign on this official PF Human Ranger illustration by Eric Belisle: http://paizo.com/image/content/Blog/092311_RangerArt.jpg I know it was made into a plastic Pathfinder Battles figure, but does anyone know if it's available as a PAWN? And if so, which set it's included in? Many thanks!
After being scheduled for December 2013, then pushed back to January 2014, I see the 2nd edition of the Pathfinder Beginner box has now disappeared from Amazon UK's own inventory. One retailer is offering it for £999! Today there two copies available on eBay UK - one from Australia and one from Germany - and in both cases the postage costs more than the game itself. The Pathfinder Beginner Box is a fantastic product and a perfect way to get RPGs into the hands of unsuspecting families who would never be found rummaging around in specialist game stores. But that can never happen with distribution that sucks this badly. I want to buy this wonderful game for my friends and relatives without being hammered by high postage charges from distant games retailers. Come on, Paizo. Sort it out!
I put my BB pawns in a plastic "craft/hobby box" which I picked up for about £2 in my local Home Bargains store (UK). It's flat, semi-translucent plastic box with lots of little dividers in it, each section perfectly sized for pawns. There's even room for the plastic stands and dice too. You can pick these up very cheap in craft shops (for storing buttons and beads) and DIY stores (for different sizes of screws, nails etc). I lucked out by finding one that fits EXACTLY inside the BB box itself! If I can find a link to the exact make and model, I'll post it here.
Being a complete Pathfinder noob, I've created a super-simple, easily editable Beginner Box character sheet in MS Word. I've used Arial Narrow and Arial Black fonts for this version as they're fairly common. It looks even better if you use the Dax font family used in the Pathfinder BB sheets. Dax is available for purchase online, but it ain't cheap. You can download the sheet here: www.andydiggle.com/downloads/PFBB_Character_Sheet_ARIAL.doc Let me know if it works for you!

Hey MrSpiffy, any chance you could email me your form-fillable character sheet? I'd be happy to remove any Paizo branding myself, if that's an issue. I'm at: "web AT andydiggle DOT com". Thanks! |
